So BW and some gamesites have said that we (the gamers) don't "get" the endings... and totally disregard BW's prior statements, that our choices would have impact on the endings - which in my game they didn't, and reading here neither did anyone else experience this!
But IMO they forget that a lot of the gamers playing the ME series aren't teenages, but actually are adults of varying ages. Personally I have been a gamer for 20+ years, not hardcore with gaming parties a.s.o. but I like a good story, and the ME universe provided this up until the last 10 minutes.
I would profess to understand their endings, and I don't like them. I find it somewhat scary that BW can promote the endings as deep and philosphical, when they're not,
I find all 3 endings more or less the same even when you get to the core of the explanations, yes BW play with different words but I find all 3 choices to be an ultimate control over life, be it reapers, geth, humans, turians a.s.o. and thereby effectively removing choice.
I didn't want to choose any of them but ended wtih destroy, while saying sorry to the geth and EDI, while shooting.
My take on the "choices":
Control ending: Machiavellianism
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MachiavellianismSynthesis ending: Eugenics
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/EugenicsDestroy: Ultimate control over life.
I found this thread the other day, and while it may not be a perfect ending, I find it to be a vastly better choice, than what we got, so go visit and read:
