Well, lets compare the % drop to other titles from the same source;
Fallout 3 Fallout NV DA:O DA2 DA;O Awakening Call of Duty MW 3
Week 2 -65% -64.5% -47% -67% -68% -85%
Week 3 -46% -45% -52% -52% -56% -21%
Based on the figures a large drop in sales in the second week appears quite normal - especially for high profile titles as a lot of the first week totals will be pre-orders.
What is really interesting is the 5th, 6th and 7th week figures (which we, of course, don't have for ME3 yet). Good games show an increase in sales around this time - Mass Effect had a spike of some 20% in its 5th week, DA:O likewise showed a spike from week 6, and week 7 saw a 27% increase. Even CODMW3 saw a rise in sales in the same period.
I note this, because people have wondered why Bioware might pick PAX to give a statement about a new ending (they have NOT confirmed that they intend to...but realistically I don't think they have any choice in the matter). A (positive) statement or reveal at PAX would be in time to help the word of mouth sales that should start to kick in around week 5 or 6 - and of course remind the three people who managed to miss that the game existed that they can go and buy it. I don't think they really have the option of holding off any longer than PAX, because a week or two later potential customers will have moved onto other games and other developers...as, of course, will most of their existing customer base....
More pressure on BW methinks. If they manage to win their existing customers over at PAX then there is a good chance of a surge in sales. If they don't sales will continue to fall as the word of mouth is bad, and their reputation will have been destroyed.
what gets me any other game from any other company that releases a triple A title they see a drop of at most 50%
this is due to the amount sold in one week which reduses stock so sales in the second week are always going to drop.
the the drop of second and 3rd week sales of me3 is really..............horrific.
the first AAA game of the year and after an amazing release everything then went down hill fast as more people finished it.
to make matters worse when the co-founder of bioware publicly ridiculed and belittled the fans (AKA the comsumer AKA the people that can make or break a company) and then claim artistic integrity made the company look bad.
so bad that forbes...a WALLSTREET buisness website has been running the story in a regular basis even going as far as the uk finacial times (that in itself shows just how bad it got) has damaged even more sales with the amount of sales drop off.
now it seems to have come to light that bioware have pulled a capcom, they removed the entire ending to sell as DLC, this seems it includes missions, extra squad members and more from single player hence the whole "continue the legend of shepard" text box.
this is in a sense a SERIOUS bad move, its bit capcom in the ass so bad that they
might be forced by there OWN gaming regulator to release it free in a condensed pattern.
now if this turns out to be true bioware as well as EA itself will have there reputation damaged beyond repair and no amount of begging could do it.
capcom they are a developer as well as a publisher and is a single company
where as EA is a publishing company with MANY idividual developers (criterion, blackbox, bioware) if one of the developer companys screws up huge EA is seen to have screwed up as well.
if capcom and bioware continue this trend other game companys might follow suit which means we really are being sold incomplete games at full prices.
after years of being quiet our voices are now being heard, we have made moves in ways NO-ONE ever expected, a lot of the so called fan haters screams are now being drowned out by supporters for us.
but what they all thought was that we were all entitled brats, or spoiled kids or in some cases "teenagers who have had there mountain dew supply cut off", but we proved them all wrong, instead of grabbing virtal pitchforks and digital flaming torches we instead went for the cupcake and nicness approch, this is something no-one would have seen happening.
(this is for the ppl thats reading it now)
you see we are all mature people abet some just want to riot but thats the norm for a large crowd but we as fans of an emotional sci-fi rpg game have all learned something from the game....the PARAGON and what are paragons, people who take a stand but in a civil, nice and collective way, we see sense in many things but in doing do we also see EVERY FLAW.
in short because were all nice we can now see the flaws in the logic of what they say.
with bioware's PR team not saying anything or even hinting at what they are going to do the retake movment grows stronger, people who were calling us retarded over the ending have since converted to our cause as they have in a month got the other 2 games, played them, finished them and now see what all the protests are about and are now supporting us.
in one week we went from a couple of people to nearly 100,000, we had 50,000 in one week and now a month later we have 100K and if all the lurkers and people who are with us but do not speak that support us actually spoke out i bet we could have over 200k and MAYBE a LOT LOT MORE.
with PAX coming bioware has ONE chance to fully redeem themself and admit to what they have done was stupid and IF it was planned to actually ADMIT it.
anyway i just went waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay off topic
