It makes me wonder(again) how the hell they thought that would be a good ending to the trilogy...

Well, i don't like the batarians so i'm fine with this. xD

haha.. the feeling's mutual.. they're not going anywhere since I'm sure if they can plot a jump across the galaxy they can do the same math I just did.  Angry Batarians.

Not to mention the same math works for the Asari, the Turians, the Quarians (though they're probably best position).. anyone else who's with us... I think the shortest distance would be for the Krogan... though it probably wouldn't matter.. they'd run out of food quicker and probably eat all the humans before the end of the week anyway.  Image IPB

Its even worse because they stated in ME3 Codex a Reaper could fly at twice the FTL speed of a citadel race ship. They even gave us a number: a Reaper was able to travel 30 light years in a 24 hours period.

Add to that what was already told by people about the drive discharge and I am pretty sure most of the fleets trapped in Sol System wouldn't be able to travel 100 light years before needing a discharge.

Yay hard numbers!

So let's assume the Batarians are on earth, they're from the rim territories pretty much opposite side of the Milky Way from Earth.. let's cut off maybe 25% just for distance wise.

Milky way = ~125,000 light years across

Approximate Distance from Sol to Batarian on a conservative estimate:93750 (75% of galactic distance, accounting for curvature of flight path around galactic core which, according to lore, is unnavigable)

Reapers can travel 30ly/ day (10950 light years/yr)
Council Fleet therefore is 1/2 that.  5475ly/yr

Grand total of 17.12 years assuming non-stop travel.
Chakwas already says that the Normandy is in a GOOD position, stocked with several MONTHS of medical supplies.

17.12 years for a fleet with no support along the way is pretty much a no-go.  You'd need compatible food, medical supplies somehwere in there, helium fuel sources (which would be a logistical nightmare on their own).

*sighs* - I hate when Canon doesn't work.

Now, now. The problem is you are thinking logically. Can't have too much of that, it would destroy "artistic intention".

Another random question. If the starchild's home was the Citadel, and the Reapers were the starchild's "solution", couldn't starchild just activate the Citadel on it's own, and let the Reapers in? Why would Sovereign be even needed?

ah yes, sovereign's purpose in the ME plot. we have dismissed that claim

Ah, Dr. Who. Maybe a new ending can include everyone stepping off the wrecked Normandy to find a lush jungle planet and ... A BLUE POLICE BOX?! Then the Doctor and a battered Shepard step out and the Doctor says, "I understand you need a ride home."
- Cut to credits and Dr. Who theme.

Don't worry, the TARDIS is bigger on the inside.

Rofl! Part of the reason Doctor Who worked was every story had its own set of rules.

This would be like having the Tardis turn out to be an ancient human who was turned into a phone booth by the Time Lords so the doctor would be able to wipe out all gingers in the universe and then bringing Amy on as the companion. Image IPB

Anything new happen while I was off?

Yeah, I just had a thought I posted in another thread, folk have been saying that even with the relays destroyed the alien ships around earths orbit can still get home, it will just take them longer, my question is, where are they going to get the fuel and supplies for such a journey?, the Normandy used up a lot of fuel while flying from one system to another.
So maybe my Shepard did not commit mass murder after all, he just condemned them to a slow miserable death.
I feel so relieved.

I agree. Even IF they are still able to travel to different solar systems, they have no way to get enough fuel to make it there. Heck, the Normandy can barely make it to different systems in the same cluster, let alone a completely different system. Plus, what about food? Especially for the Turians and Quarians? Or the colonies that don't have FTL ships?

Yeah.....I think I'd prefer the quick death....

Time to read you the Lore.

FTL drives build up a charge when used, this charge has to be discharged in a gravity well. (There are a number of planets where this is noted ships discharge the drive core in ME1&2).

So FTL, as opposed to relay, travel is limited to systems relatively close to the nearest relay or at least planetary bodies that have a strong enough gravitational field to allow the core to be discharged.

So no, the Quarian's, Turians, Asari, Rachni and Geth are not getting home by using their ships FTL engines.

Not to mention regular FTL is -slow-.. the whole reason for the mass relays added were to get over this scientific hurdle.  Anyone who's ever watched Star Trek voyager realizes, even at like 6069 times the speed of light (Warp 9.975) it was supposed to take the Voyager ship like 75 years to go 1/4 of the way across the galaxy.  Shepard would do an outer rim jump and be back to the Citadel before they finished cleaning up the glass from the last alien attack Image IPB

Well, in all fairness, the delta quadrant is located three quarters of the way across the galaxy from earth, which would be equal to 75 light years as  the galaxy is 100 light years in diameter and earth is located on the outer third of an outer spiral of the galaxy. Basically, in mass effect terms, the delta quadrant is located in the upper right hand quadrant of the galaxy map.

75,000 and 100,000 actually.  I get what you're saying, unfortunately their own canon (which got posted a couple minutes later by someone else) showed that Citadel races only could go around 5475 light years a year lol.
