I really think we should use our movement for good again... anyone else up for a letter writing campaign to tell her we don't hate her and apologize for anyone whose vitriol she received?  I mean we've done it for bioware... might as well thank her for being a fan of the series, and complement her on an awesome job IN the game...

I thought the whole Diana Allers character was awesome personally.  I had hoped there would be a quest with her but I was cool with the little side conversations.

As I said, I have nothing but respect for HER.  I strongly disagree with the lack of journalistic integrity of her publication (edit: employer)... we really need to show her that the people being hateful and stupid are immature and not representative of our movement.

Anyone else with me on this?  I'm not good at organizing these things.. I'm cool with starting now and sending snailmail or email to thank her and apologize for the idiots of the movement.  No hard feelings about the blog post, it's not like we haven't all vented a bit much haha.

You can also fax her letters through the IGN Corporate Fax: 714-460-6798

i for one would want employes to have their own oppinion (!) and be able to voice it.

I would go so far as not to employ people that do not challenge me (as the boss of a company or the boss of a team)! (i am not talking about a leadership challenge but an employe telling me something like "your oppinions sucks because..." (and then explaining why))

but that might not be EA's forte (they were always a little oppressive IMHO)

There is a difference between voicing ones opinion to your boss behind closed doors, and voicing your opinion in public.

The former is usually acceptable to some degree, if the opinions are voiced in the correct way and depending on the personality of the boss in question - and 'That idea sucks' is NOT the right way to go about voicing an opinion.
The latter is NOT acceptable in any moderate to large company period. It is why a lot of DVD's start with the disclaimer 'Opinions in commentaries are the views of the individual in question and do not represent the views of <company name here>'.

Apologies atrocity, I quoted you because I was unable to find the original quote, I needed a reference.

And here I was thinking I could fill in the role of the Omega of the pack, embodying the frustrations of the thread *puts away her wolf costume* :?

But no problem, no offence taken, I just sometimes get confused whether people are answering to me, the guy who quoted me, the general principle of the three posts above mine or the Queen herself.

...btw if some of the former was the case with charrr's post, I'll apologize snapping at you, but I still feel that polite inguiries for explanation are totally ok, as long as one is prepared to do the same should the roles be turned around.

To just say, oh you think differently than me, fair enough. To me just means you've no desire to actually hear that opinion.

I do ask the reason for opinion, but I respect when they do not wish to answer instead of saying "well you're wrong!"; but then I'm the type that gets annoyed if people keep digging at me for the reasons behind my opinions, I'll give the reasons in my own good time if I want to not because someone demands I do so.

So wait. Why is it wrong to ask someone the reason why they like the ending? Isn't that the question we get everyday anyways? "Why do you not like the ending?"
Why can't I ask the same thing to someone else...?

Yeah, I'm confused.

oooooooooooooook seems some people took my post personally,
i dident know about the "bil" thing untill i actually posted the last message going through the 2700 odd pages looking for something but i saw a reoccuring pattern of people jumping down other peoples throats for liking the endings.

and now the some of the RME3 people are now turning on there own, i'm sorry but this thread started out civil and now its heading down a troll route against its own.

i dident point at certain people and say "you started this" or "you suck" or "tell me how" its now gotten to a point where your now picking on each other.

if this keeps on going i can see a mod shutting this thread down hard and then deleting it, in the past 100 or so pages i have started to see personal attacks on other forum users and using this very thread as cover.

i have recived some personal attacks on myself in private messages, which i forwarded to mods due to the content in said messages. (racist remarks directed at me, threats and so on).

so if you want to get this thread locked then keep on going the way you are, there are some good people here who are trying there hardest to keep this thread on the line by holding the line, BUT some are now taking it to a diffrent level which CAN lead to actual origin bans or MP bans.

so please, continue attacking ourself's

i can still hold the line but i do have a finite patence

to the people who support RME keep on holding and keep it real and most of all KEEP IT CIVIL

I'm interested in hearing the reasoning behind why someone liked the ending because I'd like the opportunity to make it a discussion. So far, it seems that everything on the other side of the fence is either "it's art," "you just don't get it," or angry name calling. I've heard people say they like it, I just haven't heard WHY.

It's totally fine if someone likes it. I wish I did too. That would make my life a lot easier right now. And I might actually be getting some work done instead of sitting here glued to BSN all day. :)

Most of all, I think offering an explanation would facilitate an actual discussion, not just an argument. That could only help in the end, right?

Well, Jessica Chobot's apology seems fair enough. I can understand her feelings and I'm sure most of us would feel the same way in the same situation.

The problem with Jessica Chobot is her clear conflict of interest when voicing her opinions. As an employee of IGN, and her doing a role in Mass Effect 3 for Bioware and EA, calling people ridiculous entitled whiners is well past the line of acceptabilityI don't know what kind of harassment was directed towards her. I'm sure, being in the profession she's in, it was venomous.

But, being a public figure, she has to know it is coming regardless. She could be perfect in every way, and there will still be no small amount of people harassing her, because this is the way of life. To group myself and others, who have never directed one word of malice towards her, with the ones who did, she became part of the problem, and in actuality a bigger problem than Bioware's lack of statements.

not only that, but to have said what she did and admitting to not even finishing the game, was par for course. She doesn't deserve what was said to her I'm sure, but she should be ashamed of how she handled the situation, and she should know by now that when you have a professional interest in something, it is better to just remain silent.

I agree 100%, might be best to drop this by the hold the line/retake website or facebook.

As I said before, any problems I have rest with Bioware and IGN. Neither should have allowed a staff member, especially a high profile one, to have been included in the game. IGN CERTAINLY should have known that doing so was a conflict of interest when reviewing or commenting on the game.

Having said that this isn't the first time I know a games reviewer was added to a game. Back in the 1990's a British games review show had one of their presenters inserted into a micromachines game. However this was noted both at the time (they were covering the games development, and the decision seems to have been made by the developers when they were due to start filming), and also during the review of the game.

Oh, I know how to respect people's answers, don't worry :)
I just thought someone said we shouldn't ask, so I was wondering why someone would even say that...I mean, don't people usually ask why when they don't want to judge someone without knowing the whole story?
At least that's how I feel. I ask people so I can know their side as well.

I am a 30 something woman with a dream to get Garrus and Thane to make a wobbly-H with my Shepard in the middle. ;)

Yeah, and I think that's part of the problem. A lot of people still seem to think that because we want a "better" ending, that somehow means "happy."

I have nothing against a happy ending, and the more I think about it, the more I really would like it. But I fully expected Shepard to die at the end of the game. That's not, as far as I'm concerned, the real problem.

The ending as it stands now is, to quote one of the many videos I've seen, "broken." It loses everything that was "Mass Effect" in the last few minutes. It needs to be fixed not because it's bleak or depressing or because Shepard died, but because it doesn't fit with the rest of the trilogy.

That's my two cents for the evening, anyway. :)

RE: Jessica Chobot - when I heard she was in the game, I had no clue who she was, and /shrug didn't matter. Now that I've played the game, I'm sure she did a fine job of what was required for the character she was playing. That being said, I avoid the character like the plague, not because I dislike Ms. Chobot, but because the character to me is annoying. Now, understand, I see no reason to bash the woman or trash talk her, there isn't a reason to do that to anyone, if you don't like someone, just don't associate with them. This includes going into public/social media and mouthing off.

RE: Those that like the ending(s). I agree with a lot of people around here on that. It is their right to like the ending(s) as it is ours to dislike the ending(s). That being said, when someone wonders into the thread about the group of people who dislike the ending(s) and have coherently, logically and cognitively explained their problems with the endings, and just says "I love the endings" they should expect us to ask them to explain what they liked about it in the same coherent, logical and cognitive way. However, that being said, they are also welcome to say nothing or it's none of our business. At that point I tend to add them to the list of people who I ignore when reading through this thread, and move on to the stuff that actually means something.

Anyway just wanted to toss my 2 credits worth in there.

I see. I never understood how Chobot could be in the game, yet IGN could somehow still review/talk about the game and maintain impartiality...
