Even if I were to agree that, "Yes, the ending has choices," the choices you're given are genocide, enslavement, and genetic rewriting.
What sort of heroic ending is that?

Ahm, apparently Bioware didn't want to make any heroic ending. That's the problem. :crying:

But one ending was blue!  I have spent the last 3 games being indoctrinated by Bioware to know that Blue = Paragon, and Red = Renegade!

Then what is green? Paragade? Renagon?

Green is like fight club... please follow the first rule Image IPB

Except in the end, Blue = Space Magic :wizard: and Red = Space Magic :wizard:

One thing I learned from ME3: never trust Bioware's color coding skills.

I actually thought it was a bug when I saw the destroy ending as a red explosion. I mean...wasn't Shepard's main mission to destory the Reapers? Or did I get that wrong?

The middle choice on the dialogue wheel. Oh wait. That one didn't exist in ME3. Oops...

I think I was still trying to figure out how the kid in my dreams was suddenly telling me stuff..  I was going through the whole "There is no logical purpose to this conversation... pick the least destructive choice and you'll wake up from this"... since that's how most games deal with this sort of thing.  (Think Call of Duty, the old James Bond games...etc)

Does that mean if jump in the Green beam...  Shepard unlock his Spiral power and  gets a Mech the size of a Galaxy  and start liking massive amounts of  Reaper ass drillings and punching wholes the space time continum?

Wait. They have old James Bond games?! :o

I actually had spoiled myself, since I wanted the best outcome possible...little did I know that there is no such thing as a "good ending"in ME3: they're all the same bs.

EDIT: googled it. They do have old James Bond games...except I was a little kid back then, and only played Pokemon lol

Just out of curiosity, who here knew about the ending rage before you finished the game?

I myself was flying in pretty blind. I'd only seen a single tweet to one of devs saying the ending was terrible. I quickly brushed the thought aside and stayed off the internet for an entire week until I completed the game.

Do you think knowing how bad it was softened the blow?

Sorry about that, have to beat that  annoying thing down  every now and then.

Still that what I think it is -its a damn fad  that everything has try to be sooo no mainstream. You can't have happy endings because is soo cliche'. What  people fail to realize is that its cliche' because for the  thousands of years of human story telling... it WORKED.

[/quote]
VERY true. I see it happening alot. Writers force unusual, unfulfilling and confusing plot elements into their stories for the sole purpose of avoiding mainstream stories. There are some writers who can substantially buck the traditional story structure while still satisfying the audience, but for every one of those there are ten who try and fail and just end up with stories that either never create any audience (or player) involvement in the story or possibly can create that involvement, only to upturn their story and make everyone feel betrayed and like they had just wasted all their time being invested in the story. I really wish writers would drop the pretentious Hipster thing and just focus on the fundamentals.

Thought I would be playing awesome games but my dad took over it, so he could play Resident Evil 2.
Thank god my parents don't know enough English to play ME, or I would be sharing that one too

I know people that beat the game after the rgae began, and they often say it softened the blow, as what they were thinking was the absolute WORST thing they could imagine.

But with that said, they agree that the ending was out of place and contradictory to earlier games.

I did. I googled for walkthrough and info on ending and BSN popped up. Clicked on it and...yeah.
And for me, since I was already waiting for a horrible ending, I wasn't that shocked when I played it. I was actually complaining about the ending the whole time I was playing it.
But knowing ahead didn't mean I accepted it more. Quite the opposite: I was dying inside since halfway through because I knew what was going to happen to my Shepard :crying:

A friend warned me, though I thought she might have been exaggerating. Sadly... she wasn't. It was worse than I expected and I spent a good hour pacing the house laughing and shaking my head at the absurdity. Just trying to let it all sink in, ya know

I didn't know about it at all.  I was avoiding internet for spoilers.  It wasn't until I went googling to see if I'd somehow missed a major sidequest that would have made me 'win' the game that I found BSN and realized how many others (even early on) were disappointed with the ending.. started posting pretty much the day the charity drive started, gave my donation (which at the time I thought was pretty good for something I honestly didn't expect to get $1000 haha).. 24 hours later we hit like $40,000 and I realized just how historic this movement was and then, like everyone else, we had hope that Bioware would hear our complaints.. I had no idea of the history behind Bioware.. I didn't even know any of the staff names... I didn't know if they'd hear us and listen and then as I researched more, and learnt more, and saw more amazing stuff come from the community, I realized this was one of the few companies in the gaming industry that might do something...

Unfortunately I also saw a gaming media that seemed to have this warped view that fans had no rights, and by extension, customers had no rights.  I think we've changed that opinion.. or, at the very least, made them realize that, like all movements to expand recognition of rights, that we weren't going away and it was in their interest to not provoke us.  It's to the point now where a lot of the publications are realizing they didn't even end up reviewing the same copies of the game as retailed (there was no import me2 char function according to the Wall Street Journal) and the opinions began to quietly change.  Those fighting for the artistic integrity side, big name publications, were realizing they'd basically been given their articles (heck they were given ending lists by EA) and they really didn't match up with a reasonable person's experience.

I recently gave my little brother my copy to get his playthough done.  I actually held it back until this week when he started getting upset I wasn't letting him play it though I was doing it just to get to the point where he'd at least be close enough to release of any DLC info that if he didn't like the ending he'd at least not be upset for weeks or whatever lol.  He nearly made me choke on my drink at the time when I was watching him play through the first mission and he got to the kid part, he was like "Get out here kid or I'm gonna toss a hand grenade down there"... I replied "Please do" and then when the kid got killed he goes "SEE KID.  That's what happens when you don't listen to Shepard".  I made the comment of "If only it was that simple"... he'll understand why I wasn't making light of the kid soon enough. I loved my N64.  I got Perfect Dark when it came out too.  If you haven't tried the Xbox 360 High Def remake of it you definitely need to.. it basically polished up a lot of the Goldeneye gameplay and revolutionized FPS/Action/Adventure games.

I heard plenty about how the ending was bad, but I thought, "okay, it can't be THAT bad. It just can't."

I was playing through the Tuchanka mission. It was a super-high point of the game. I though, "no way. This game rocks. Look at how awesome it ties this story up. They must be a bunch of hissy whining entitled fanboys."

Then I accepted, after more people started talking, that, er, maybe the ending would be bad. So I braced myself.

... And then the ending came. Like a punch to the nuts.

I was prepared... and it was WORSE. The first thing I did was called my friend and said "the ending actually HURTS to think about... no, not because it's emotional. It hurts became it's just flat out nonsensical and lame to a degree that even LOST made better sense."

I then stared at my Shepard, who had been magically teleported back to the Normandy prior to the Cerberus mission, right after the final message of the game was "buy more Downloadable Content." I looked at him, said my good-byes...

... Then jumped on BSN to vent. I've been here non-stop for three weeks now. All my friends who have also finished the game have formed a support group where we meet every Thursday to talk about new and different ways the ending totally makes no sense, invalidates former promises, and clashes with the lore and themes of the franchise. We can keep this going for a long, long, long time.

I knew about what was going to happen before the game released when I stumbled onto this thread at the beginning of it by accident, even knowing that early didn't soften the blow any for me

Hahaha, that was my immediate reaction too. The second the credits started, I googled what I'd done wrong. Then I learned that the endings were just R/G/B. So I headed straight over here and realized that this rage had been going on since before the game came out. I don't think I've left since the day I arrived.

Isn't it sad how the Starchild completely removed any sympathy we might've had for the kid before? Stupid kid, should've just listened to Shepard <_<

I, like quite a few others it seems, avoided spoilers as best I could; pretty well. I figured that the people complaining about the ending were being melodramatic.

Then the ending happened to me.

There's no way to prepare yourself for that the first time around. It's like trying to brace yourself as you're about to get hit by a freight train.

*sigh* It looks like college classes are going to go on forever right now... the bus that I take to get home will now be the last bus to come by the campus! v,v I'm so depressed right now, cause I can't really do much on here except the occasional skim of the posts... Just let me know when someone is acting up, I'll be here, eventually~!
