Hollywood has listened to movie fans for decades. In big blockbusters, they have fans looking at various pieces of production. And they do test screenings. They change endings like they change clothes. All because of audiences. They release new versions, and different ones for DVD, Blu-Ray, whatever, just because of it.

So, saying that the article has no connection is not right. It is spot on. Everybody cares about the audience's opinion, and BW should too.

Perhaps I am misunderstanding you on this.  From the Prometheus wikipedia page, it looks like the movie has finished production.  To me that means that fan influence on the storyline is over.  So whatever the folks are doing online to solve puzzles and such cannot change that.

Also, the page mentions production was marked by a 'high level of secrecy'.  Again, it does not appear the general masses had a major impact on its storyline.

This, to me, is comparing apples to oranges in terms of this movie verses the Mass Effect series.  Player feedback has long had an influence on ME (as we are dearly hoping it does now), but I don't see the same thing for Prometheus?  Can you explain your point of view a bit further for me so I understand what you mean?

Very nice. At my house I am the mom so see she isn't the only weird one. Image IPB I love my RPG's.  My kids are all grown now are usually either watching me or playing WoW with thier dad.

I have a feeling that will be my family...if I ever have one *forever alone*

But that's really cool. My parents play games too, except my dad is more into FIFA or Resident Evil and my mom is more of a Sonic and Guitar Hero person. They don't have the patience to play RPGs :?

Production's simply defined as the filming of the scenes.  Then films go to 'post-production' where the scenes are compiled into what you see, special effects are added, audio's mastered, and scenes are routinely 'cut'.

Even after POST-production films are routinely sent to test-screenings in which they play the 'rough cut' and sometimes even the 'final-cut' of the movie to a test audience and then poll their reaction.. movies (notable movies too, ones that have gone on to win Academy Awards) have gone back to the cutting floor and recut & sometimes reshot scenes to make them more palatable to their audiences.  Google 'test screenings' and you'll come up with a ton of results that surprised me when I started looking at them a week ago or so haha.

As for the Forbes thing, I'm not sure if the comparison is sound or not. However the Bioware employees shouldn't act so shocked about Forbes. With the majority of the major gaming media lining up to collectively take a dump on our heads, is it any surprise whatsoever that anyone from a major publication who defends us from the wave of fecal matter is going to be seen as a white knight by alot of people? Forbes guys have been great from day one. They got the movement and didn't immediately move into calling us entitled brats. Its just sad that the gaming publications that are SUPPOSED to be on our side are so quick to attack us. I guess it takes a business publication to understand the producer-product-customer dynamic.

Maybe he will be the main enemy in DA3. Along with Corypheus. We'll see.

Actually, after ME3 ending, I'm not sure if I trust Bioware enough. I have a feeling that they will mess up DA3 too...:crying:
I really hope they learned from this experience. I guess we'll find out on Friday.

I'm pretty sure the Chantry's going to be MY main enemy... they haven't exactly seen eye to eye with me... usually because I take the side of the mages I'm with. Image IPB

Sure, Missy. And again, it's not against you or anything like that. I like to say it because things can easily be misunderstood around forums. ^_^

What I mean is: Forbes is just trying to show that a gazzillionaire industry like movie-making takes public reaction very seriously. The movie, in my opinion, is just an excuse for that example.

And what they mean is that BW, being part of another gazzillionaire industry, one that has just one objective, "making more and more money while delivering nice games and working with the best to do it", cannot, I repeat, absolutely not, choose when they say fan feedback is the most important thing, and when they say "our artistic integrity based on our artsy games is on the line if we do what they want".

It's ridiculous. What the article means is something that should be obvious for BW (for BW!). That they dropped the ball with it, and shouldn't pass the opportunity to jump back on the train of great pas de deux with the fans!

It's the perfect opportunity to show how they care about fan feedback, and show that they deserve to be on the gazzilionaire industry club.

I think it's INCREDABLY dumb to address the Templar vs Mage set up so early. I love the friction between the two. I am a Mage character but I loved the conflict. I feel now they are going to get rid of it with DA3 and I am not happy with that <_<

In fairness, I think the seeker lady or Varric (sp? ) mentions that the Templars split off from the chantry so I'm guessing the chantry may end up playing a neutral party. But this is just speculation.

Edit:Much quotation failure on my part

Certainly, just like games go through rounds of testing and get feedback.

However the article is comparing the level of end-consumer interactivity between this movie and the Mass Effect series.  Audience test screenings and some viral marketing don't really compare to three games over five years where the player has the level of control and amount of choices that ME does.  Not to mention fans obviously influenced things like the LI choices in Mass Effect 2, ect.

I'm with you guys that I felt royally screwed out of choices at the end of ME3, but I think Forbes was being a little unfair on this one.

Biotics + Mages = awesomeness

Actually, just the fact that Liara is blue would freak them out. Imagine them looking at Garrus...

EDIT: I know they have weird people in DA world too, but nobody wears a freaking armor that looks more like a space suit lol

Just feel like weighing in here.

This would be pretty cool tbh, but the Chantry would probably freak and call them all abominations. Fools.

No worries, was just explaining the whole production timeline thing only because I just started looking at it myself after I'd read earlier this week about test-screenings after the whole "Artistic integrity" argument Image IPB

Why was it shut down?

And honestly we don't have any idea, well I personally don't I just have hope. I HOPE they are going to announce alternate endings, I HOPE they won't just "clarify" the space magic.

On an unreleated note I have a feeling they are going to announce DA3, since some of the Dragon Age team are going to be there.

just two words as to why it got shut down. Stanley Woo.... also, some idiots started posting pictures that violated the rules of the forum.

I just want to see how they have to say to all those angry fans in that room. It's going to be one scary pax announcment.

and honestly i've given up on dragon age after dragon age 2. they cut soooo much out.
