Nope, twitch.tv is focusing on something else at PAX, we're hoping that folk who go along to PAX take their video camera's, especially those who have steady cam technology.

Yeah strange coincidences here too - moved here a few years ago and only just met up with some gamers, all of whom  were pretty disgusted by the ending to ME3 by the way. Gave us something to talk about though when breaking the ice, so some good came of this.

Lots of Australia is like Idaho - huge amounts of space with small towns. Tassie is a bit different because the terrain can be pretty rugged and wild- they filmed Walking With Dinosaurs in parts of the state where the landscape is so bizarre looking. Might have to get off the xbox and go take a look while waiting for a fix to ME3 (said hopefully)

Yeah that does sound alot like my state. I grew up in a town with 5000 people. Its pretty rugged here too as were right in the Rocky Mountain range. Anyway I better get back on topic. -salutes fellow rural gamer-

Soooooooo I've been lurking for a little while, didn't manage to stay away completely until PAX but not going to hang around too much or else I'll get into more petty arguments in other threads. <_<

But, good to see everyone going strong. And I saw that article with the Jennifer Hale interview. Baaaaargh Jennifer Hale being sad makes me sad :crying:

Posted this over on the "New Forbes Article" thread; thought folks here might find the information interesting:
--------------------------
<snip/>
There is one thing, though, that sets EA apart from competitors like Activision but hasn't been mentioned in the context of "worst company" (OK, let's say "bad company"). These other companies manage to turn a profit. EA, on the other hand, does NOT, and insists that rampant piracy has hit it so hard that it has been forced to investigate new revenue streams like Day One DLC and micro-transaction schemes.

I'm skeptical and here's why: If I go peruse EA's financials, I see these numbers:

2011 FY Gross Profit Margin:   59.8%
2011 FY Net Profit Margin:        -4.5% (yep, you read that right - negative 4.5%)

Revenue per Employee: $505,659
Average Revenue per Employee, Industry Sector: $15,015,580

Cost of acquisitions, last 5 years: $1,067,000 (10% of gross profit)

So... Can we agree that, while this is certainly the profile of a company with a problem, the problem is NOT with its revenue stream?

It's incredible, really. Last year, EA couldn't manage to eke out a dime of net profit off a whopping gross margin of 60%. (For comparison, IBM's was 51%.) In fact, EA hasn't been profitable since 2007. It lost $276 million last year, $677 million in 2010, and $1.1 billion in 2009. Its revenue per employee is one third of the average across its industry peers, indicating far too large a workforce. It spent a full 10% of its gross profit over the last 5 years on game company acquisitions, with no visible benefit at all to its miserable bottom line.

Can anybody legitimately claim that what this company needs is new revenue streams? I'd contend it much more desperately needs new management.

The worst? I don't know. But, even from a basic accounting perspective, much, much worse than its peers.
--------------------------

Well their biggest beef is Gamestop..  15% of their revenue last year according to their 10-Q.. which means that the company who is their biggest customer is also their biggest competitor through the Used Games market and Gamestop's Impulse sales platform which directly competes with Origin.

It's part of why they're pushing Origin so much, they want to get to the point where they control the distribution to end user market so they can set the prices and control the DRM/Used sales, and not have to worry about competition... and we thought they couldn't get more 'evil' by internet standards lol... I guarantee if EA thought they could afford it they'd lock used games out entirely and you would only be able to buy through Origin.. but they can't and they'd lose too much money doing that.

So for now we have an uneasy calm.. We're gonna wake up one day and realize the rEApers have taken over though. Image IPB

Great info - I had not seen that claim regarding GameStop. Yes, their claim that they have to adopt new revenue models because those nasty game pirates make it impossible to maintain revenue levels is just so much horse-hockey. Even bloated ol' IBM is able to turn a 14% net profit off a 51% gross margin, yet EA has a negative net off a 60% gross margin? That's not a problem with how much is coming in, it's a problem with what gets done with it after it gets there!

The real motivation, as you said, is something entirely different.

That was awesome Image IPB

Bioware could have avoided ALL of this if they had taken the time to just give us this sort of epilogue... honestly... and it really makes me hope that if this IS what they give us, that I can accept it and let go of the upset that I've had the last month... it's almost like a bad breakup, I don't want to forgive, but it's not like Bioware cares if I do or don't and I need to for my own sanity and mental health.  See, even though I think that the fan made epilogue was awesome, it does not fix the ending, explain plotholes or help us get over it anymore than the game itslef did. <_<

I definitely do not want them to "address the ending problem" by releasing an epilogue like this. It won't fix anything; it will just tell us what happened after the whole Space Magic :wizard: bs.

Exactly...I dont understand why they just wont use the Indoc theory, it fits canon and then when Shepard wakes p they can continue the game to give us our REAL endings

Hopefully they understand exactly how tight of a rope they are walking right now, and proceed accordingly. If they truly care about their work, or their fans, they will do the right thing.

On a side note, after doing some research into EA's business practices, I am fully convinced that they are to blame for how bad the endings were. Impossible deadlines and inhuman amounts of hours put into each work week can destroy even the simplest of projects.

EA is to blame for all this. DA:O and ME2 were great because EA didn't take over till they were almost done or had most of it done before they could tell them what to do. ME3 and DA2 are evidence of what EA can do to a Game.

Am sure Hale will be back, and if not, maybe we can organise something like the charity drive to pay her- get her to voice a mod for the end if Bioware doesnt come through.

I suspect, just from the last couple days that we're going to see the following announced:

First and foremost - an epilogue, showing what happened to our character and our crew after the incidents... and really really hoping it's not some bleak artsy crap..  I didn't play a game to 'win' it and feel worse than losing it.  The biggest lesson in life is that life goes on.  Those epilogues Tami posted are -perfect- for the sort of thing I'd want.

Some cleanup of the final rush - Fixing some reused textures, maybe removing the human writing in the citadel, having added cutscenes showing Joker bringing the normandy in to pick up the crew, maybe having a few other things show up, like the Krogan show up on their dinosaurs to protect the squadmates you had (if your EMS is high enough)...etc, fill in some of the plot holes.  They wouldn't need Fem or ManShep to do voice for this since it would be all crew members and possibly non-central people in a lot of cases.

Either NOT having the Mass Relays blow up, or at the very least, having a Heisenberg Compensator to explain why there's not a supernovae in every relay system.  (this will be the "oops we forgot that DLC" part where everyone knows they messed up but they won't admit it)

I was thinking, at first, it might be some Diana Allers scenes showing what happened, however Jessica Chobot, her voice actor's posts earlier this week on her blog I doubt that.  I still suspect there'll be some "news" shots showing various things.. maybe a few cutscenes showing turians and krogan working together to help human survivors or citadel survivors and stuff.

Depending on your choices, I suspect the scenes may be a lot different now.. I'm hoping they have enough time to fit in some amazing stuff that surprises me.. it IS a time crunched dev period though.  I really really hope they can make this good... it'll determine if I'm able to accept it or if it just feels like a "Okay take this and stop whining".

Anywho.. hold the line, we'll know soon enough.. I hope, at the very least they say "We're working hard" and if they can't give us an ETA for release at least say "We have so many different variations to work through we want to make sure we have enough time to do them all, we're not going to rush this".. that, to me would be awesome.. it would mean they're taking this seriously.. cause I know they're fullbore right now, which means if they need EXTRA time that means full bore extra time, what they release is that much better!

I'm off to bed shortly.  Let's not forget Friday's a holiday up in Canada, and Monday in a lot of places too, so other than pax, we probably won't see a lot of announcement.

Honoured to hold the line with all of you Image IPB
