I'm also getting a big BSG vibe from these endings. The loss of technology, stranded on a distant world, having to start over again, organic and synthetic merging...

Why do so many assume this? Do normal FTL physics go away too? AFAIK, it´s "only" the galaxy gets a lot bigger.

I lost all interest now, was going to make a playthrough of ME2 but dont feel like it anymore. Might cancel the preorder and wait to buy it until I hear the verdict.

Yet oddly it was better handled in BSG, which is a freaking shock since that ending blew.

All we need is Ashley turning into an angel......

or whatever Starbuck turned out to be.

The heroic sacrifice is the biggest, ****tiest cliche in the book.

Lay off the haterade.

Drink paragade!

Have fun drinking your paragade when your Shepard gets blown up/vaporized/isolated from everyone else and the Normandy crew decides to eat Tali and her chicken feet with a side of Liara's Blueberry waffle on that planet the crash on <3

The joke's on the Taliphages.  After they eat her (and Garrus, presumably) they die from dextro-amino poisoning.

Well, at least they all die together. Shep is gonna die alone, if he surives that is.

yeah, that's what I'm most upset about. You've got a lot of choices in handling the reapers, but for shepard it's pretty much A) Shepard dies. B)Shepard dies slowly.

wonderful.

It doesn't have to be a sunset ending. You destroy the relays, you've screwed the galaxy, you are left stranded on a planet with the rest of your crew. There's your consequence for not being all sacrificial. There are ways to still give the player consequences and yet still have an ending where everyone is together.

I think that's my biggest problem. That the love interest or your best friends are once again leaving you to do it alone and be the big awesome hero. How about an ending where you die together even? Just something different than the cliched 'hero stands alone' bull****.

Agreement. If you were with your crew and died or were stranded forever with them it would be fine.

Seriously, you want to talk about realism. There is no way I would leave the person I love to go die alone, I don't care what he says, it's not going to happen. These people have been to hell and back with Shepard. In fact, the original ME1 squad went through the pain of Shepard dying already. They probably felt guilty then that they couldn't save Shepard. And now you just expect them, especially love interests, to just say 'well if that's what you want' and go through that horrible pain again. After they rekindled their relationship (or started a new one)? No amount of shouting or demands would make them leave. If we die, we die together.

Option C is shepard dies alone without friends or LI which also sucks.

Well after thinking through everything... I have to withdraw my previous opinion and actually say that if there's no happy ending, only bittersweet it's quite a kickass thing... quite unique... and fits perfectly to the lore that you have to pay the price for stopping a race that cannot be stopped throughout the previous cycles... anyway, I won't spoil my fun any further, looking forward to playing the game :)

Oh, please, could you people stop it with "it's so unique!"? Bittersweet or tragic endings are a dime a dozen in fiction, too.

$100 bucks say when the SR2 is warped halfway across the galaxy someone says "We've got fractures all along the lateral support beams . . . she'll never jump again."

If this is true, then I'm going to do to BioWare what I did to the Wachowski Bros. when I saw the end of Matrix Revolutions: cut them off. I'll be done with BioWare for good because having only bad endings is so... self-absorbed on the part of the writers. It's the same principle that doomed the writing for DA2. That whole "This is the story we want to tell, regardless of if it translates well," bull**** that I have seen since "Lost" went off of the air. Jesus, I'm starting to hate writers.

On a positive note, the comment above about the crew eating Tali's chicken feet had me in tears.

This is why I never watched the BSG series or it's spin off series. I hate bitter and crappy endings. It's why I won't play FF13-2 cause the official 100% complete ending for that game is bitter, crappy and ultimately the good guys DID NOT win. And there was no happy ending. I tire of sad endings and crappy endings. Hell real life we have enough death, destruction, sad endings every day. I want my books, tv shows, video games and other stuff to have a happy ending. It's called escapism into a fantasy world. Though Mass Effect is science fiction it is still a fantasy world created by someone. If I wanted to see a crappy ending I'd go and watch a family member commit suicide or watch someone get murdered.

I don't want this in my video games where the hero gets crapped on no matter which way they turn.

As long as there are message boards...there will be those who troll, hate, beg, threaten, and whatever.

OMG they want a happy ending!

Space them.

To me it's not about LI's. I didn't even romance anyone. It's about Shepard being screwd over in all the endings.

I really don't know what's up with a lot of writers. After enjoying resounding success, a good number of them seem to want to destroy what made them famous, in the process alienating their fanbase.

Well if things do go bad the fan's are going to demand an expansion pack and one that I hope rivals DA's Awaking. I really dislike if it ends with a hero sacrifice or stranded cliche which happened in halo3. I played mass effect to gain a satisfaction that I completed something with choices.
I don't want to end up feeling, "Wow all those choice I made in that trilogy result in a near hopeless ending...":(

Bioware I trust you and will reserve my judgement on you till after I play it, but rest assure when I am done I will post somewhere describing my feelings about it in honesty.

The ending to the BSG reboot is actually quite positive overall.

The only "ending" that can be found with the original is in Galactica 1980 and you'd be hard-pressed to find a BSG fan that will even acknowledge it exists.

For every ONE bittersweet or tragic ending there's a million happy, fairy-tale, twoo-wuv saves the day endings.

I for one commend Bioware on what they've done. Sure they ****ed up Cerberus, moral ambiguity and went with some of the stupidest fan ideas, but at least they got the bittersweet ending thing right.

Unfortunately the cynic in me expects that they'll 'fix' it with a DLC.
