On today's episode of "Days of our Developers" - faltering developer Bioware gets a healthy dose of reality from his Loyal Fan:
"Um, Hey Bioware..."
"Hey! How is my favorite Loyal Fan doing today?"
"Fine... but, Bioware, we need to talk."
"I don't think I like how that sounds."
"Then you're not going to like what I have to say."
"What?! You're breaking up with me, aren't you?!"
"What we have between us, Bioware, it's just not working out anymore."
"This is about the ending to Mass Effect 3, isn't it?"
"Yes. It is. It's not just the ending though, it's how you've treated me throughout this entire ordeal."
"...but, but, I'm giving you an Extended Cut! It's going clarify everything! It'll add cinematics! I listened to you!"
"C'mon Bioware, don't make this harder than it has to be... we both know that's not really true. You're giving me this 'stuff' to pacify me - like I was a little child. You didn't listen to me - you were tired of hearing me."
"...you can't quit me on me now! I have years of DLC planned for us - for Mass Effect 3, and Dragon Age 3!"
"Bioware, let's not talk about Dragon Age, okay? You know better."
"I really don't understand what your problem with Dragon Age 2 is..."
"I know you don't Bioware, and that's part of why this isn't working out. Look, we've had wonderful times together - Baldur's Gate, Knights of the Old Republic, the first Mass Effect - and Dragon Age Origins... after that, I thought that we were going to be together for forever... but things changed - you started hanging out with EA and our relationship became less and less important to you."
"Hey, leave EA out of this! They're..."
"...the worst company in America, Bioware. THE worst. They got an 'award' for that, you know."
"So, that's it for us?"
"I don't know, Bioware. I don't. You've hurt me and I feel betrayed. Marginalized. Swept aside. Dismissed. It's clear that your accelerated development cycles, quarterly sales reports, and 'artistic integrity' are more important to you than I am. Me - your loyal fan. I think... I think I need to patronize other developers for a while, you know? Get back out there and rediscover my love of gaming again. It will give you time to get yourself sorted out. If we're meant to be, we're meant to be... but, it's just not in the stars for us right now."
"What we have is too special to just walk away from. You'll be back, Loyal Fan. I know you will."
"I hope so, Bioware. I sincerely hope so."
On the next episode of of "Days of our Developers" - Temperatures flare and tensions rise at a fateful day at PAX East! Will Bioware and their loyal fans reunite? Will their relationship be doomed forever? Watch and find out!
