The notion that the writers somehow became overwhelmed by the complexity of the story is ludicrous to me. It was laziness.
Why not crash the Normandy on Earth? It changes nothing, except providing fans with the ability to imagine a reunion. I don't think ANYONE here wanted a super-happy ending. All we wanted was an allusion to a possible future for our Shepards and their loved ones.
Arbitrarily separating them just to ensure that you never have to worry about including them in any future game is the laziest, cruelest move the writers could have made.
The weird thing is we just saw the fate of the Normandy and immediately realized all that was wrong with it. (The more I think about it the worse it gets). And a team of people who get their living writing didn´t? What the hell?

Again. If they confirm the endings, they have royally screwed themselves over. If they deny the endings, it causes more confusion as to why the endings exist AND/OR people will believe BioWare is just doing damage control and are not going to believe them. It's smart for BioWare to not say anything so close to the release dates.Max Knight wrote...

even if you put them all together somewhere, the galaxy is decimated, medical advancements will have been set back and whatnot.....you can explain away almost all of them (old age) except for somebody like liara....and with a character like that, it's a boon for bioware, they have an easy way to make an emotional attachment in ME4 for the people that would have loved me1-3....

True. Now add a life you will never enjoy anymore. My main Shep would be crushed enough by genociding the Geth. Now everyone he cares for is gone forever.
I don´t think I´ll ever play my canon Shep through the game, not for this.

Or in Mass Effect words, BioWare hasn't unlocked the Paragon/Renegade solving choice in their dialogue yet.

I think it comes down to the number of variables the game must account for. It's a 1,000 now.. conciser all the possible permutation and content that bust be made and the number of playthroughs to see it all.
I see 2 choices to continue the series.
a) force a cannon ending that creates a start point for a new story arc.. less variablesgive many endings but force a cannon for next story arc..
I think they choose "a" so that Me3 endings weren't ignored in the next one. The lesser of the 2 evils so to say.. I think having many ending variety but not having that effect following games would be worst then this.. I think the events of Me3 will be part of ME4.. a new PC starting off at the attack on earth. The messed up situation is great for spin off games.. a privateer type game, a MMORG.. ext..
Variables need to be manageable... New ideas for manageable variations would be helpful.. I can think of one.. events that cause scars.. It's easy to have a companion have or not have a scar due to an event.
Dead vs Alive makes for some difficult writing... Ash vs Kaden you don't have so much lost dialog.. but with ME2 you can get some big holes as games progress.
If there were huge differences in the endings then they'd need to make 3 ME4 games.
If this is the end of Mass Effect then I agree the ending suck... but I don't think it's the end.
Try to think from a continuation point of view.
Sad but true. But option b would not exclude the possibility of a mmo. Option a sucks but it is the most practical cost effective choice. Understandable but not acceptable.

Sure, Sauron would be destroyed, and hooray for that, but we'd also be left with a dead Aragorn, Gimli, Legolas, Merry, and Pippin.

it was like they looked at various sci-fi franchises or shows and said.....ok.....lets narrow it down to one like quantum leap, lost or the matrix....we're only going to model the end on one of those that leaft everybody scratching their head, saying WTF, or just plan mouth agape in disgust....

If they say that, fans are not going to believe them. Gamers have already shuffled through the .bik files on the PC version. Xoisite has played the game. Unless the day-one patch contains the endings (highly unlikely, though) or unlocks files, then we're stuck with knowing that the current leaked endings are the true ones. But anything BioWare says BEFORE launch day could ruin them if they don't play their cards right. Yes, they'll have to say something AFTER launch day, but don't expect an official statement.Max Knight wrote...

If you want to see what Devs are saying, lurk on Twitter. Someone already asked one dev what he thought about fans reacting to the leaked endings. He replied (I'm paraphasing here) "people should play the game instead of listening to the forums". There has been interviews. Casey Hudson did one with Giant Bomb and he said (paraphasing again): "It's been agonizing. We want to release the game. We're aware of how anxious fans are. We want the games out for the fans". 1up.com did any interview with Mac Walters, lead writer of ME3.
My advice? Believe what you want, but still play the game. If these endings are the only endings, then at least enjoy the other aspects of the games. If you want to see what devs are saying, keep an eye out on twitter and game sites.
