Bittersweet?  sure.  Makes absolutely no sense and breaks almost every rule that the franchise set forth of their own creation?  Absolutely.

here's the list of companies.

1995 Bullfrog Production
1997 Maxis
1998 Westwood Studios
2000 DreamWorks Interactive
2004 Criterion Games
2006 Digital Illusions CE
2007 BioWare

Not to disagree with you.. I think EA's a horribly run development consortium that puts quantity over quality.

Most of the staff in all of the above still work for EA in one of their labels though.  EA got rid of Westwood, but most of the staff moved to EA Los Angeles and went on to work for a bunch of different studios.

The studios haven't really just died.. the talent in them has moved on to other projects is all.

So... Should we be waiting for Bioware's assets to get merged into EA Canada?

Judging from Computim's post I assume that they have also all been shut down (except obviously Bioware)

It's a list of studios that EA's bought over the years... Maxis still exists (They're releasing Simcity 5 next year).. they also created The Sims, and Spore... they're definitely not dead and have been a subsidiary since before some of us here were born.

The argument, from the past few days, is that the rEApers continue the cycle like the CitadelKid, every few years they buy a new company and destroy it.. the cycle continues, bioware is next lol.  It's a funny joke, but not entirely accurate was all I was saying :P

I notice people throw around the term "rights" like it meant to validate their whiney behaviour. Let's clear this up for the future. You have no rights when it comes to this game. You buy the product and you receive said product. That is your right as a consumer. Everything else after is just an example of the self entitlement you all seem to have adopted. Pro-enders aren't what is wrong with society. They are just people who enjoyed the ending, perhaps they understood it in a different light to the rest of you keyboard warriors. To turn around and say they are trolls or ****** for liking the ending instead of "standing up for themselves" against the big bad corporations you are only being hypocrites. For weeks now all we get to read on these forums is how the ending was bad and some imaginary line that shifts to your own purposes needs to be held. Good luck with that by the way enjoy your extra cutscene. Hope you still shed a tear and chuck more tantrums over a game when your precious mass relays explode.

Unlikely.  EA had a different strategy back in the 90s than they do now.  Now they've seen the benefit in maintaining the different organization structures and independence of the studios (to a point).  It also allows them to just blame the studios if things fail and then just kill them off.... trouble with Bioware is it accounts for a SIGNIFICANT portion of EA's total gross revenue... and is now affecting the brand reputation of other labels... hence the more intense scrutiny on them.

Haha, I meant that as much for me as anyone.. they've been an EA subsidary since I started playing games pretty much.  The first game I ever bought for myself was Simcity 2000 and it was the first Maxis one to carry the EA label.

'Twas a joke, lol. But it does make it interesting see where they go with this, because as you've mentioned their brand has taken a huge it. With Bioware, a lot of the loyalty is lost. They've picked up some new fans along the way, but many, many fans have jumped off board at various points since EA's takeover.

Technically, anyone born in 1997 are not supposed to be here, because ME is rated M
And I've never played SimCity...I do play The Sims though. Little addiction...

Thought I'd finally ask this since I've been wondering about it since the ending and the claim of artistic integrity, but doesn't DLC kind of negate the artistic integrity of the current version of the game? I mean they might add new quests or squadmates with DLC, so doesn't that in itself change the game *by giving more assets, more story, altering endings etc* and therefor the artist integrity of the game? I mean I kind of equate it to buying the mona lisa but the only thing in the painting is the background. When they add DLC they might add the eyes and ears, etc...or am I totally wrong thinking this way? Probably just thinking way too hard about it all *shrugs*

Thanks Computim, you refreshed my memory and provided interesting facts about EA, Westwood (RIP C&C :( ), and Bioware.

Yes EA is different... but still

It's all good. Though I do want to say I like the idea of Casey Hudson, along with all his artistic integrity, being forced to work on the NHL series.
