Yes it has been spoken of many times.

Though Casey wasn't lead writer on ME3 or ME2 either.

He was Director on all 3 games. Which irks me a lot because as a director isn't he supposed to say "no that's not right fix it"

Lazy directing and bad writing, *sigh* no wonder we were left with this mess of an ending

Which ones? The ones that can regrow their limbs when you cut them off, like in Dungeons and Dragons, the ones who can't be killed without the use of fire or acid? Or are they the ones that eat goats that try to cross their bridge? Or are you talking about the little plastic ones?

The insulting part is that it was never "the team's" vision. The ending
wasn't written by "the writers of Mass Effect", because Hudson and
Walters

I thought he was the reason why we got the endings that we did... or is that an uncomfirmed rumor?

I have to keep faith in bioware. The ME team produced three amazing games only to fall at the end. it doesn't make sense since they got it right for the first two games.

I was actually wondering this myself, does anyone actually have proof it was Casey's fault?

I find it hard to believe it was one persons fault tbh.

Drew left to work on SWTOR, which with him being an accomplished Star Wars writer first and the ME universe loremaster second is understandable.

Remember, Hudson and Walters were leads for huge parts of the series and apart from those last 5 minutes, everything was amazing, so don't judge too harshly.

Sure the ending was screwed up and it overshadows a big part of the goodness that came before it. Just try to remember they also were in charge of the good stuff together with a good team.

I saw a Data (TNG) quote on a youtube video earlier that i turned into something to do with the endings that made me chuckle :P
"I am the culmination of one man's dream. This is not ego or vanity,
but when Mr. Hudson created me, he added to the substance of the
universe. If, by your protests, I am destroyed, something unique –
something wonderful – will be lost. I cannot permit that. I must protect
his dream."
edit: though i doubt it was just one person's fault, many blame him and Walters for soloing the ending though

Oh god, I have done it, I have
made the situation into an episode of 60's batman

Narrator:
A sunny March morning in down town Gotham city, Looks like a
line is forming at  the local computer games emporium, for the
release of a new game...  But what's this? A dastardly knave
breaking in the back entrance? but what could be the purpose of this
foul deed?

(A dastardly caped individual with two henchmen
in matching uniforms with their names printed in the front climb
through the window)

The Electronic Artist:
Hee Hee Hee, using my tricoloured ending array we will ruin these
games for everyone, Ha ha ha ha.

Bio: But boss, how
will ruining the endings for all these fans make us the fortune you
need to fund your devious schemes?

Ware: Yeah
boss I dun get it.

The Electronic Artist: It
is simple my low wit possessing associates. Once I ruin these endings
I can hold the entire Fanba... Gotham city to ransom for the real
endings, for a price of... Wuuun-Miiiiiiiliiiion-Dollaaars, and no
one can stop us, ah ha ha ha ha. And I will finally have revenge for
my own great programming skills being ignored by those “mainstream”
game publishers, Ah ha hah ah haahaah.....

Narrator: At
Gorham City Police HQ, reports about the ending start to flood in...

(Sound effect of
many phones ringing, and Chief O'Hara is juggling 5 telephones at
the same time)

Chief O'Hara: Please
Try to talk slower Mrs Elwood, what do you mean massive potholes? The
Normandy Crew? Yes Mrs Elwood.... Yes... we have had many reports of
this. No Mrs Elwood... Thank you Mrs Elwood...

(The Chief tries to put all the phones down and hang up but is
tangled in cables, he gives in and turns to Commissioner Gordon)

Chief O'Hara: I
just don't understand it commissioner, what sort of deranged criminal
would ruin all these games for so many people, its just so senseless.

Commissioner Gordon:
I don't understand it either Chief, there is no clear motive for this
crime, the developers themselves are not responsible, we send a squad
car down to their factory, and we found there had been a break in
there too, and the ending master copy's had been taken, so there is
no chance to repair all the broken games.

Chief O'Hara: We
did find a clue at the games emporium though, a 2000 page terms and
conditions of service and use form, as well as this note.

Commissioner Gordon: What
does it say?

Chief O'Hara: Well
as you can see Commissioner, the handwriting is pretty poor, but I
can just make out “Buy More DLC”. no one can work out what it
means though.

Commissioner Gordon: Oh
its no use, there is only one way we can get to the bottom of this
mess now.

(Commissioner and O'Hara look at each other)

Gordon/O'Hara: Batman
and Robin!

Narrator:
Meanwhile,
at stately Wayne Manor, Millionaire Bruce Wayne, and his ward Dick
Grayson are enjoying a relaxing game of Modern Warfare Three.

Bruce: As you can see there Dick, Using superior tactics and skill will always
win over using easier more unsporting methods.

Dick: Wow Bruce! You really showed what I know, all I could see you doing was
camping in corners with that SPAS-12 and spamming grenades, I guess
it takes a trained eye to see these things.

Bruce: Yes,
and we must never lose sight of the fact we play these games to enjoy
ourselves, and we should not allow a our competitive side to win over
and create unnecessary antagonism with our fellow man.

(In the next room, the bat-phone starts to wring and is answered by
Alfred)

Alfred: Yes? Of course commissioner, I shall put him on right away.

(he walks into the room where Bruce and Dick are)

Alfred: I am sorry to interrupt your electronic entertainments Sir, but the
commissioner is on the line for you

Bruce: Don't worry Alfred, when duty calls we must put aside our petty enjoyments,
right Dick?

Dick: Sure thing Bruce!

(they walk into other room and Bruce picks up the bat-phone and
adopts his persona of batman)

Batman: How
can I be of assistance commissioner?

Commissioner Gordon: Thank god we could reach you batman, we were worried no-one would be able
to unravel this mess over the endings of these electronic games,
someone broke into the games emporium and the games factory and
ruined all the endings, the plot was so nonsensical and messed up we
thought we might be dealing with the Riddler, but he is still safely
locked away at Gotham State Penitentiary. Please hurry Batman, people
are getting angrier by the minute!

Batman: Don't
worry Commissioner we will be down right away.

(He hangs up and opens the bust of Shakespeare on the desk, revealing
a hidden button which he presses, that slides the false bookcase out
the way, revealing the bat-poles)

Batman: Hurry Dick, it sounds like there are some big problems down town. Too the
batcave!

(Bruce and Dick run toward the poles and slide down out of view)

(Main titles)

Ye get the idea right? lol

Heheh. I see what you did there. I don't think Hudson on his own should've been a problem, since his previous work wasn't anywhere near bad (quite the contrary).  It's becase he and Walters locked themselves in a room and kept the other writers out of the entire process (apparently, if the rumors are true) when they wrote the ending, that we (and Bioware) are in this mess.

Though I still don't understand who in their right mind could've okayed that ending as it was, unless they were literally a week away from publishing the game, and had to go with that or the game coudn't be finished in time..

And Drew's original idea about the Reapers had something to do with dark energy, that's why there is all that foreshadowing in ME2..

[edit: typos and wonky formatting]

Except the only integrity they truly and completely sullied was the one of the original premise of the game(s), heh.. Though, I suspect you were being sarcastic there.. :)

As for Bioware being defensive, I think that may be their way of trying to save face (or rahter, to try and save Casey Hudson's reputation as the lead). But like you said, we'll probably never know..

I'm kind of confused as to why what they think the game was supposed to be about is so different than what the players feel it's about. I guess that's just answering the question with another question (one which also won't get an answer).

isig wrote...

Dragon Age 2 was the first time they mucked up, and now this is already strike two.. and one can see it's no longer a simple line, but instead turning out to be a pattern. Sadly.
I really hope they make the necessary changes in all future games and get back to what they used to do best, instead of letting themselves be butchered by EA imposed time constraints, as well as their own hubris. But I'm not holding my breath or anything..

Though, let's try and be a bit more positive.. at least WE made a difference and succeded in making them at least attempt to change a part of something that was, until a few weeks ago, unchangeable. Yeay us. :innocent:

For me it isn't so much a 3 strike system, because these are pretty major strikes. It's turned into a "fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me." And I'm not ready to get fooled again, even by extending DLC... Sorry, just busy being bitter, lol. Maybe Bioware will get over themselves sooner than later.

from everything ive seen its just rumor and people looking for someone to blame, theres also that thing where Weekes supposedly said they did solo it but both him and Priestly have both said it wasn't Weekes who wrote it

Alright folks, I'd like to apologize for my final post last night. It was something I felt needed to be done, although I anticipated mod intervention I still feel the need to apologize for risking the thread.

So I am very much sorry.

The purpose behind the post, however, was two fold:

1. A certain individual was starting to really aggravate people on the thread, and it was getting ugly. I knew that it wouldn't have been long before there would be nothing but flames, and the thread would get locked down...not everyone was in danger of causing this, of course, but some where becoming agitated.

2. I gambled that if I made it personal enough to warrant attention, but didn't take it -too- far, that those in power would likely step in and put a stop to it...I was willing to face a personal ban to keep this thread and all its constructiveness on track and continuing. Of course, it was a risky manuver; if I'd gone too far, it probably would have resulted in the closing of the thread...something I didn't consider until this morning.

I do apologize again; if I'd been more awake I probably could have come up with something better, and less risky to the thread...you all didn't deserve to be part of the gamble.

Now, with that out of the way.

In response to earlier questions about which reviewers we should trust, I personally think Angry Joe is one of the better ones out there. He tends to get things right-on, and can do so in an amusing way.

His discussions of the ME3 ending and the Extended Cut were insightful and truthful...and the best part of it is, he's purely supported by gamers, not by a big gaming company.

He was with us since virtually day one, and gave a voice to a lot of the glaring flaws in the final moments of the game.
