He also said "You're the first person to ever get this far".... he doesn't know anymore than we do.  A simple cutscene with Garrus voiceover, "Turns out the Citadel AI was wrong.. Shepard managed to cheat death again" and bam, no one would question it.

I for some reason think it is easier to explain the opposite. A form of a modified emp that destroys reaper code/signal, yet I can't think of a way to send something capable of destroying physical material through the relays. IDK though.

This is what I attempted to explain to someone else, the catalyst lied, the other two options allow the Reapers to continue, in the control ending as slaves, but these are powerful beings and we know about slave rebelions, in the synthesis ending they are merged with organics, this was the reapers ultimate goal, so that only leaves destroy, that was the real threat and the reason the catalyst lied.

If you encounter someone random on the streets, and he will tell you to choose either the red or blue pill...

....if some stranger you never met before tells you, you can instantly solve all problems with pressing buttons on some self-written smartphone-app, would you believe it?
I wouldn't

Thing is, I had no real choice, and it felt like someone pulled the plug right before (or after) the final boss encounter

Eh i don't know. I see the code as just that : lines of number and some letters, What differanciate it from the others numbers and letters?

Physically, the EMP could overload the circuits and break the capacitors or their Reaper equivalent.

Im not sure how to explain. To me, it's easier to destroy the circuit physically then the codes that don't have any particular differences... Meh, again

Seriously, it would be so easy for them to create an Indoc ending to this and just say "yep, this was the plan all along". It would end this whole debacle and at least get them some of their reputation back. What possible reason is there to not take the easy way out? Especially sice the fans have practically already written it for them.

To be honest if I was standing on the outside of the citadel with a giant beam, attached to a giant super weapon while a race of synthetics destroyed everything around me I held dear while the entire galaxy fought back and my alien lover remained on a ship somewhere... I think I could probably believe Citadel kid at that point.

Or, underestimated shepards  tenaciousness for living. Persnally, i thik the kid was in a state of shoc that shepard even made it that far, and was off his rocker for the most part of that conversation..

In code, you pretty much just have to change one of the 0's to a 1 or vice versa and the entire meaning of the code is changed. Change too many and you scramble the code so much it's irrepairable.

Well, the whole point was to BEAT the reapers at any cost. Bioware just took the "at any cost" a bit far with the relays.
Technically, any of the 3 "options" would beat the reapers (if indoc theory isnt true).

remember inside the geth mainframe where you had this "gun" that would only destroy reaper code but not geth code?? same thing.. I think..

Liara as LI is still my fav setting, especially with such a mother-in-law (Claudia Black is awesome)

This is just another example of how Space magic has opened the window to the dreaded word "Speculation".  For all we know the mulitcoloured explosion gave all synthetics in the galaxy ice cream and they could handel such generousity and shut down.

exactly, plus Anderson was the one they showed when the options were being presented so IMO it was the only way to go after that

That is exactly why I picked the destroy option in my first and only playthrough.  I have played for three games to stop this cycle.  Come hell or high water, I was going to stop it.

I really hope the geth didn't die.  I sleep better when I haven't committed genocide.  Just saying.

It could be like a remote desktop signal, but it can only do certain things, like uninstalling the reaper code.

It has no reason to be in shock, it has every reason to prevent Shepard from destroying it's plans and it's minions, it needs to remembered that Reapers are part organic as well, it's survival, and a lie is one way to attempt survival, evolution incorporated lying as a means of survival, now that may sound strange given that lying can lead to many bad things, but that's only because it's corrupted, take splitting the atom as an example, a great means of supplying energy demands, but it got subverted.
