Posted this in my own thread but since this one seems to be the most active thought i would post it here as well...

______________________

I was looking at another thread and Fox216b brought up what I thought were two good points about the ending and the hubbub. Here is the post but it really comes down to these two lines:

Saying "i didn't get what i want" is annoying and sounds unrealistic.

Saying "We didn't get what we were promised" no that's not whining, that's simply telling the truth.

Both are valid points I think.

My take is that the problem is that a few select people said things they should of and I imagine that when they went and talked to the developers/programmers about what they said those people put them in their place.

Ive worked in programming and have had bosses do the same thing:

Boss: We are going to XYZ and its going to be swell!
Programmers: Sure...we can do that. We will need more money and more time to do all this though
Boss: Oh...we can't do that! Has to ship in March and we have all the money we can use.
Programmers: Ok well then here is plan ABC then

What they should have said was nothing until they talked to the programmers to find out if it was possible. Higher ups don't tend to do that though but I betcha money that bioware will do that from now on!

In the end though, bioware has extending the olive branch as far as they ever will. Everyone can shout to the heavens or various places on the internet and the promises those few people at bioware broke will never get fixed or fully addressed. Asking for more than what bioware is giving though is just going to sound like a bunch of people saying 'I didn't get what I want' though.

(this next bit workes better if you play your national anthem (no words though)..when you got that qued up read on)

It's not all for naught though! The hold the line men and women won something great. They did something that has never been done before in gamming history*. They stood their ground, demanded a better ending, and bioware relented and is trying to improve upon their ending. Whether you all were the minority or majority it does not matter...what matters is that you all happened to help make the overall game hopefully that much better.

That's not all though. This is not a minor victory. It's a fired shot across the bow of every gaming company out there. It's a victory for all gamers because I will guarantee that at this moment every game company that is producing something for future release is dam sure not going to pull a bioware and frack up the ending like this. Oh no! They are going to spend that extra time and money to make sure this does not happen to them. They are going to keep their mouths shut and not promise the world when they can only deliver something else. They now know just how tenuous the relationship between developer and customer is.

So from someone that liked the ending but also wanted a bit more I just wanted to say thanks! Thank you for fighting the good fight when so many others may have said Meh. And thank you for affecting a change that is sure to make our collective game experience better in the future.

* Yes i'm aware that people have affected change in computer games before. Never before like this though. To compare the hold the line people to the likes of people grumbling about a game like Fallout 3 sullies what I think is a pretty important accomplishment that will have major ramifications on the industry for many many years to come.)

Extremely good points, and valid. However some of the promises were made after the game was supposedly finished. So either those making the promises didn't know how the ending went, or didn't think people would care if they didn't match those promises.

Mike Gamble, Casey Hudson and Mac Walters are the three that made most of the promises about the endings. Or at the very least stated what the ending would have (even though it actually didn't). Since it was those three, I don't see them not knowing how the game ended...which makes me feel rather insulted, because it would mean that they don't really care about meeting customer expectations or the requirements they set themselves.

Goes to show that we don't really matter to them  nor our opinions, for that matter

needless to say he died in a bizzar accident when he decided to give a hanar oral sex ........ turned out shepard was alergic to seafood and he never knew

The plane is a part time sub. Plane during weekdays, sub during weekends and holidays.
As to how it manages that...space magic :wizard:

While I agree that there has been a small victory I don't agree with settling for 'the proverbial olive branch'

The game consumers are in general very lenient in judging a final product. The amount of buggs mosts games get shipped with under the 'it'll get patched later' attitude is sickening and sometimes the issues even don't get fixed along the way. You pay 'full price' for an 'unfinished' product

Producers get away with shipping these half finished products because of the forgiving recepients. In most other industries this would be signing a death warrant for your company. They, on the other hand, even get more feedback from the consumers than most other companies get before it's to late and they can wrap up shop.

The 'main' issue with the ending regarding of whether you like it, is badly written etc... Is that is is unfinished and full of plot holes. NO author would get away with something like that when for example, writing a book.

SO,

If they decide to defend their vision by blaming the state of te ending on 'artistic vision', this is either disgustingly arrogant or in fear of admitting a mistake. Both explanations still have the same result: Partially alienating your consumers. The ones who they count on to provide the feedback which you require to keep on doing what you want.

A random videolink I found today. It's a fan trailer that sums up a lot of what I think many of us loved about Mass Effect and also I think in some ways can reflect the actions of the movement. Maybe I'm off, maybe it's the hour. Either way enjoy
