:o Next time my nephew asks me for a video game, I'll be sure to buy him an empty case, that way he can imagine himself putting a disc in the console and then pick up his controler and imagine himself playing. I'm sure all that will go over real great at Christmas! :P

....fail.

Huahahaha exactly. So, according to the guy's theory, maybe instead of paying, let's say, 50 bucks, I can pay 40 bucks and tell them to imagine the rest, since I'm imagining their end. :P

P.S. - I seriously hope that BW doesn't agree with him or those who think that way.

If everyone dislikes the ending, write your own ending. Do you expect Bioware to do everything for you? They left the ending open, so we could interpret it in our own way instead of them telling us how it ends.

Interpreting the end is exactly what has caused the uproar on these boards, I have a fairly good imagination, and it's much better when the story stimulates it's further, unfortunately the only thing the ending to this game stimulated was confusion and an anti-climax that I can safely say I've never before experienced in gaming.

Unlike many others, I did not get angry or sad or frustrated, no for me it was much worse, I went numb, it was emptiness, not the kind of reaction to invoke the imagination, I went to bed that night as though it was just another day, ME3 did not happen.

And ill disagree with some of my fellow Retakers here. I feel there is a place for ambiguity in literature. However it needs to be carefully done and it needs to actually be ambiguous, not this horrible hybrid thing that we got. Lastly its probably a bad idea to end a fairly straightforward action and drama game about a Cyborg space marine fighting to save the galaxy from machine horrors on an artsy ambiguous bittersweet ending. Its just out of place and jarring given the themes of the rest of the trilogy.

That's what I'm talking about. People can't seem to think for themselves. They want someone else to do it for them. When the ending DLC comes out, I'm sure there's going to be a lot of people who still hate it and will demand another ending, and another, and another. Why can't you guys use your imagination?

Dude, I can headcannon a ****load of things. I head cannoned DBZ post cell, I headcannoned the events of Skyrim for my various characters, I headcannoned Vandal hearts and a plethora of other games/series through the years.

This is not about the fact that I can't think for myself, its simply because I refuse 2 things.

To take getting lied to lying down. Which they did with their pre release statements.

And to let Mass Effect go down as an internet Joke.

Some things ARE artistic integrity/the vision of the writers and must be respected even if you do not like it. Tolkien for instance. I hated Frodo's character. I hated Hobbits in general. Do I stop reading it because I disagree with the notion that "The smallest of us can bring about the greatest change"? No. That was his belief and his theme throughout the story so I can personally push Frodo, Sam and the other hobbits more or less "out" while I enjoy the rest of the story with the other characters I do like.

Mass effect 3's ending breaks completely with thematic elements and conflicts with previously established cannon, turning the entire series on its ear with no warning, whatsoever.

Everything from start, to the point that you sit down with anderson was Perfect Mass Effect writing. Then Shepard takes the space elevator and the writer of the scene literally crumples up the whole manuscript up til that point and writes some stuff "on the fly" forcefeeding us some hashed out mockery that they DARE to pass off as "16 different endings" That in no way resemble ANY of their pre-release statements.

Then, when people call them out on it, they use terms like "Intentionally polarizing" "Artistic integrity" "Artistic vision" and whatever other statements they've made since this whole thing started to 'defend' their ending its because they know they screwed up.

Why do you think NO ONE not ONE person at Bioware has come out and actually said to our faces The Game DOES have sixteen different endings.

Because they Know that they're lying. They know people will call them out on such an unbelievable level of Bull****.

I have yet to see a single person properly defend the endings.

I've seen the people that say "We just don't get it"

I've seen the people that say "I liked it" (Don't offer any explanation besides that)

I've seen people that say "If that's how they wanted to end it who are we to argue" And to be honest, that's the only argument that I've seen that holds any merit whatsoever. But if you knew a guy, and that guy was ready to pull the trigger of a shotgun onto his foot you wouldn't just sit around and say "If that's what he wants who am I to argue" Alot of us are invested, emotionally into this series and we do not wan't to see it "shoot itself in the foot" Especially not two feet from the finish line.

And you say essentially Why should bioware cater to us. Some people will always be dissatisfied.

When you have an overwhelming number of your fans downright PISSED at you, its for a greater reason than just "It was tragic"

It was ****ty writing period. People don't mind tragedies. Some people do of course, others don't find it to their taste but will watch it anyway.

Furthermore you telling us to "make it up in our head" is basically telling us to "give Bioware a free pass" Which many of us refuse to do, when you make statements like they did (TWO WEEKS) before the release They HAVE to live up to them. If it was 6 months or 3 months  before the release I could buy that they didn't know. But two weeks? They KNEW they were lying to you.

Poor magnetite. Every one jumped all over that statement, but the fact of the matter is that this thread is filled with very intelligent people who have already thought through many of the issues and scenarios being pointed out by people who seem to come here to do nothing but pick a fight (based upon the way they present their point of view). I have heard people say we are hostile toward others who come in here with differing views and bully them out of the thread. The fact of the matter is that people who comment along those lines have either been hostile toward one of us (and we protect each other) either by calling us names or questioning our mental capacities. That instantly puts others on the defense. In the case of magnetite, their argument was seriously lacking a logical line of reasoning. If people come here with respect and solid arguments everyone enjoys hashing stuff out - this is a thread for grown ups, so expect a good debate. If you come here to post one inflammatory statement and come back a half hour later to "admire your work" you will notice people have forgotten about you.

Exactly. Apparently, some people can come here and say: "you guys are babies that want to be spoon fed", and worst things, from time to time. And then the same guys go away saying about us: "those guys don't listen to reason. They just offend people".

Eh, that's what magical under-bridge creatures tend to do :wizard:. It's of course not the same thing with people who have intelligent arguments to bring forward. Always glad to have a discussion with those people, but sadly, they're rarer than magical creatures:?...

I just bought The Witcher 1 Enhanced Edition, so I will give that a go...hope I like it or it will have been a waste of money lol, (not really into PC gaming so I might get bored trying to play it - only exception to that was Mass Effect tbh)

Haha your playthroughs are slowing down now :P

Heh hopefully I didn't come off too hostile in my post. Was an attempt at genuine debate. Still my inner jerk sometimes likes to show up, usually in the form of sarcasm or snarkiness. And yeah, we do get quite a few tro... err under bride dwellers. Don't think that's the case here. Usually they just blab about what whiners we are. The more clever ones like Mintycool will fake debate in the most disingenuous way possible.

Well I wanted an opportunity to grab him with my biotic hand while carefully warping his mask. Just enough to make him sick.

Then I wanted to outright shoot Xen.. Seriously that woman has problems. It might not be her fault I dont know her past. But Like Morinth, she is sick, she needs to be put down I dont care.

I imagine an epilogue like Dragon Age type where if you did renegade interrupt with gerrel and kicked him off the ship.

You have this:

Quarian Navy:

For their repeated attempts at peace, the conclave was reorganized to suit their new needs. Han Gerrel and Xen after Shepard exposed why the Geth allied with the reapers, were found guilty of genocide against both; the geth and the quarians. Because of this both were exiled from the home planet. Han Gerrel commited suicide claiming he did what he did for the fleet, Admiral Xen was eventually killed by Geth patrol when she was testing a prototype weapon to hack the new Sentient Geth.

Both of their names were stripped from Quarian History as the instiators of an unecessary war and the near bringers of death for the quarian people.

Even today decades later, their names are held as cautionary boogyman tales. Passion for one's nation is one thing, but taken too far it can hurt it.

uh uh,.. any thoughts?
