...that's kinda what I pay them for... because they usually write way better than I could ever dream of.
That's what I'm talking about. People can't seem to think for themselves. They want someone else to do it for them. When the ending DLC comes out, I'm sure there's going to be a lot of people who still hate it and will demand another ending, and another, and another. Why can't you guys use your imagination?
Dude, I can headcannon a ****load of things. I head cannoned DBZ post cell, I headcannoned the events of Skyrim for my various characters, I headcannoned Vandal hearts and a plethora of other games/series through the years.
This is not about the fact that I can't think for myself, its simply because I refuse 2 things.
To take getting lied to lying down. Which they did with their pre release statements.
And to let Mass Effect go down as an internet Joke.
Some things ARE artistic integrity/the vision of the writers and must be respected even if you do not like it. Tolkien for instance. I hated Frodo's character. I hated Hobbits in general. Do I stop reading it because I disagree with the notion that "The smallest of us can bring about the greatest change"? No. That was his belief and his theme throughout the story so I can personally push Frodo, Sam and the other hobbits more or less "out" while I enjoy the rest of the story with the other characters I do like.
Mass effect 3's ending breaks completely with thematic elements and conflicts with previously established cannon, turning the entire series on its ear with no warning, whatsoever.
Everything from start, to the point that you sit down with anderson was Perfect Mass Effect writing. Then Shepard takes the space elevator and the writer of the scene literally crumples up the whole manuscript up til that point and writes some stuff "on the fly" forcefeeding us some hashed out mockery that they DARE to pass off as "16 different endings" That in no way resemble ANY of their pre-release statements.
Then, when people call them out on it, they use terms like "Intentionally polarizing" "Artistic integrity" "Artistic vision" and whatever other statements they've made since this whole thing started to 'defend' their ending its because they
know they screwed up.
Why do you think NO ONE not ONE person at Bioware has come out and actually said to our faces
The Game DOES have sixteen different endings.
Because they Know that they're lying. They know people will call them out on such an unbelievable level of Bull****.
I have yet to see a single person properly defend the endings.
I've seen the people that say "We just don't get it"
I've seen the people that say "I liked it" (Don't offer any explanation besides that)
I've seen people that say "If that's how they wanted to end it who are we to argue" And to be honest, that's the only argument that I've seen that holds any merit whatsoever. But if you knew a guy, and that guy was ready to pull the trigger of a shotgun onto his foot you wouldn't just sit around and say "If that's what he wants who am I to argue" Alot of us are invested, emotionally into this series and we do not wan't to see it "shoot itself in the foot" Especially not two feet from the finish line.
And you say essentially Why should bioware cater to us. Some people will always be dissatisfied.
When you have an overwhelming number of your fans downright PISSED at you, its for a greater reason than just "It was tragic"
It was ****ty writing period. People don't mind tragedies. Some people do of course, others don't find it to their taste but will watch it anyway.
Furthermore you telling us to "make it up in our head" is basically telling us to "give Bioware a free pass" Which many of us refuse to do, when you make statements like they did (TWO WEEKS) before the release They HAVE to live up to them. If it was 6 months or 3 months before the release I could buy that they didn't know. But two weeks? They KNEW they were lying to you.
