It was always about free will. Not organics vs synthetics.
Not even a third way or a Paragon/Renegade interrupt ? This isn't Mass Effect. This is something else.

How, why and when exactly did Bioware seem to forget this fact, I'll never understand. That's why the series is so loved. It's all about choice. And your actions having consequences (good or bad). And about free will, about refusing to submit, even when the odds are against you/Shepard. It's about taking a stand and going down fighting.
Now, did our Shepards go down fighting? Did they take one last stand in the end? No, instead they apparently chose (without much of our input, save for which color) to submit to frickin' space magic. <_<
