That's BS. I'm pretty sure this was printed out with a list of other plot hole clarifications that was handed out to all the Bioware guys. EDI was designed from reaper tech. The game itself said she was.
These guys are retconning their own story to make the glitches and plotholes fit.
EDI's body doesn't have reaper tech, however her AI core in the Normandy uses Hardware from Sovereign and reaper software to improve her countermeasures.
Pretty much every in-game piece of tech derived from reaper tech. A lot of stuff was salvaged from Sovereign, enough to create a wide array of things. I'm sure EDI is not the only person we know who should kick the bucket if the catalyst isn't lying. Frankly, I'd bet that some of the weapons you're using against the reapers came from reaper tech. The galactic scale takes a hit too, it seems.
Also, something is tugging at me. How is Destroy option capable of destroying all synthetic life? It makes no sense that it would be able to conduct this without eliminating organic species or breaking the laws of physics (even space magic physics). It's understandable that the reapers could be KIA'd, but not every synthetic in the galaxy. Plus this makes little sense, because people will only make more in the first place (because NO-ONE knows why the f**k that synthetics will supposedly be "their doom"). Who's to say that the Quarians wouldn't just rebuild the Geth but this time, do it properly and treat them as equals?
A digest version of in-game diolog in ME1;
All galactic technology in the ME universe is based on Prothean technology.
Prothean technology was based on the technology of the mass relays.
The Reapers built the citadel and the Mass Relays, leaving them behind so that the technological development of their next victims would be predicatable as they would be based on the technology of the Relays.
Therefore, logic would imply that destroying all 'Reaper tech' would also destroy 'none-Reaper' technology as the latter is basically a more primative version of the first. The only way around this would be if the Reapers themselves were based around a very specific bit of technology unique to themselves. In this case it could be argued that the 'explosion' of the Relays was in fact a massive pulse/signal that shut down or destroyed that unique bit of technology. This *could* explain EDI and (possibly) the Geth surviving, as neither would have contained this unique bit of technology.
