I mean, we all have certain expectations when walking into a Bioware game. I'm going to get a small batch of locations, all of which I have to visit but I can do so in any order. There will be more than one ending. There will be witty banter. Really, ME3 lets you down on most of these points. Sure, there is banter, but a lot of the time the conversations are either, "Wow, the Reapers really messed this place up" or "Can we really win this war?"
I also criticize that we find the Prothean weapon long before the real despair sets in. Was kinda hoping for a plot that wasn't "I'm told what I have to do, I go do it." There are only two curve balls in the plot, Kai Leng absconding with Prothean VI and the Star Child. No one likes the Star Child, and I think we all feel a little cheated that a relatively easy boss fight turns out to be unwinnable. Though we do feel a lot better when we hit that Renegade Interrupt after that final battle later on.

Yup. This is one of my non-ending-related criticisms about the game. The galaxy feels tinier due to the lack of hub worlds, which contributes to it. The story feels funnelled down and rigid in places. Most likely I could easily forgive this if the funnelling led you to a place that was worth getting to. As it is, there's no pay-off for letting yourself be dragged along by the story.

This whole ending debacle is a product of their own creation - if they had just admitted that they messed up, and actually listened, and demonstrated that they are actually fixing the problem, we wouldn't be where we are today. Of course, if only they had not been so disconnected with what their fans wanted, we would actually have gotten an ending that did Shepard (and us) some justice. Instead we got... space magic.

That sounds about right with the tone of a lot of Mr. Woo's responses. I don't blame him for feeling defensive with the various levels of vitriol being thrown around, but given that he's posting as a representative of BW some of the things he's written have sounded uncomfortably aggressive. I hope the rest of the team doesn't all feel that way ...

Pretty much. Also, why so linear if the game is barely 30 hours long. I'm probably sounding like a broken record to anyone who reads this thread, but you can't have an RPG nowadays that's so short if it doesn't branch out. I hate the lack of choice, and the loss of decisions mattering, but it happens before the ending. The ending takes it to a whole different level, but you can't pretend you had a different game or different playthrough than anyone else overall either. It's just one big linear game (or rather, small game).evisneffo wrote...

I was expecting something variety, but it feels like Bioware realized that putting more effort into the game wasn't going to translate to more sales. So they tried their hardest to pimp up whatever they decided was going to make it to the screen, but cut out the rest. And they cut out a lot. And I feel it's the player's loss.

I kinda get the order of what they did. Wrex and the Genophage issue is on your back yard. The Quarians are way way over there in the outer rim. Still, for those people who romanced Tali it kinda sucks.
Then again, you get Ashley and then lose her for a good chunk of the game after Mars without really getting anywhere. Then there is Liara who is there all the time, but so tied up with the Shadow Broker stuff she hardly interacts with you. (Which is one of the reasons I went for Kelly in ME2.) People are complaining about the ME2 companions getting the romance shaft. Kind of the same thing with ME3:
LI: Hi there again.
LI: Hi there you still like me?
LI: Hi there, let's get crazy in your cabin.

The first quote seems pretty unfriendly, and we can probably assume the rest of the comments (that were removed, I guess?) are just as bad? It may look a little bad, but it's got to be a pretty stressful time to be working for Bioware. TOR isn't looking as strong as they'd hope, and they shot copies of ME3 into space and DAYS LATER the outrage began over the ending & people were demanding refunds.
I don't think Bioware and the consumers have ever had a falling out like this before. If indeed they believed that the Star Child a solid and fulfilling ending. The ones that read the forums have got to be feeling worse than most, and all they can really do is "Hold Bioware's Line" agains the ravenous hordes from the depths of the internet. It's not like the forum moderators had anything at all to do with ME3's plot. Poor guys.

It's not like it's a bad job or anything. I'm sure they're happy when they hear all the praise that gets lavished onto a game. And considering they worked for Bioware, I'm sure they got a lot of it in the past. But they have to take the bad with the good. And if the company they represent screws up, then they do have to deal with it. They don't need my sympathy, especially if all they're going to do is puppet a bunch of arrogant talking points.sagevallant wrote...
