I didn't start playing Mass Effect until I got my new computer almost a year and half ago. I was eager to play both Mass Effect 1, and Dragon Age: Origins. I started both, but I got more into Dragon Age: Origins, so I finished that first. Just as I finished the game, Dragon Age 2 came out. So naturally I just started playing that. But that game was disappointing and unfulfilling enough that I was a wasn't motivated enough to start playing another Bioware game.

After a couple of months of playing through some other RPGs, I finally got around to playing Mass Effect again, and damn it was awesome. Finished it, and started Mass Effect 2. Didn't quite love it as much, but it was a solid game in its own right. I didn't even complete a second playthrough of either, because Mass Effect 3 was supposed to be coming out later in the year, and I would rather have finished my original character's story before starting a new one. I played with that character making some morally ambiguous decisions, but all the ones I thought were for the better of the universe and such. So I wanted to have that story fresh in my mind when I started ME3.

Every character that followed was going to have like an "alternate universe" type story. Well ME3 finally came out after being delayed... and damn I was disappointed. There was no point in preserving that character I had, because nothing she did mattered anyways. What the hell is the point of creating all these characters with variable story points if they all end up with the exact same story anyways. My character was a paragade (or whatever it is people call it), but the future paragon, and future renegade characters I was ready to create would all have to sit through the exact same ME3 story.

And the ending is so awful, that I can't bother to start ME1 over again anyways. There's no point of going through it, knowing that it was working towards no end. The events in the game became meaningless, and the actions I was taking were futile. That's the effect the ending has on the series. It renders absolutely everything before it utterly useless. So why bother?

Mass Effect 1 is/was my favourite game I have ever played, and I can't really forgive ME3 for somehow ruining that. I mean, that was the least of my worries when I started playing the game. Who thought it could be so awful that it was reverberate back and destroy the rest of the franchise?

That is why ME3 is far and beyond the single most disappointing video game I've ever played. Not the worst game I've ever played obviously, but it was so far removed from the most modest of my expectations.

edit: I realize this is a bit late, but the power in my apartment was cut, and I couldn't post this an hour ago.

I agree. What also irks me is how some decisions were ret-conned outside of the game, like Anderson stepping down and allowing Udina to take his place. I also did not appreciate Kai Leng the Cyborg Ninja hopping about. I also read that he was in the books, but honestly, it should not be required to read the books to find learn about specific characters.<_<

I completely agree. Does this defeatmean the end of "hold the line" though? I am a Star wars fan and believe me, give a creator some leeway and soon this type of crap will be commonplace. DON't GIVE UP PLEASE THIS COMMUNITY IS AMAZING AND I ADMIRE ALL OF YOU FOR STANDING UP, but accepting the extended cut dlc is a slap in the face and not what fans are asking for.

Predictions for Euro 2012 ?
I think and hope Germany ...They were amazing 2 years ago ..young quick team playing unreal football..
Want someone like that to win....Flamboyance and Panache ....
now I always was wondering that there was no mini games in ME series...
correction ...vaguely remember something in ME1...but rest ..nothing.
Shame though...I miss Pazaak...lol

I don't know why, but I see the dutch going all the way. What I personally want to see, is Spain abandon the notion of playing an out and out striker and just go with a mass of midfielders; Xavi, Iniesta, Mata, Xabi Alonso, Silva, Pedro all playing at the same time...crazy I know but me wants to see it lol

Crazy idea.!!! lol... doubt they will though...
Im fed up with Spain ...i want someone new to win and to dethrone them...
I have my doubts the dutch can do it...They went into final through the kitchen door last world cup for me..
The other side of the draw from quters was much stronger....
But in football you never know...
Also best Dutch Teams never won anything... Johan Cruyff team and their total football as well as 88 or 98 teams ...underachieved... loved the dutch playmekers of old ...

Deus Ex: Human Evolution called, they want their ending back Bioware

lol...
havent played that one yet but from what I heard its good ..
with regards to the ending i heard that its wired ...
although I played original deus ex . the setting of dystopian future and corporations fighting for dominace with hlaf cyborg agents etc..
There maybe it fits the tone of the game and the setting...
If Deus ex 1 finished like Human Revolution I wouldnt mind ...It would fit..

But not HERE ...NOT ME!! for all the possilbe ending scenarions I envisaged i never ,never thought that game would end in an Anticlimax like that...
I always thought that Bioware has an intelligent team behind them and there is someone there on top who oversees everything and knows when to say NO. This is not how we are going to do this...

I guess I was wrong....

Yeah, but Deus Ex was a very different game.  For one it stands alone pretty much.

For another its a techno punk set in a dark world.  Most choices have some shade of grey to them.  The endings don't create HUGE plotholes the invalidate the beginnings or nullify all previous choices.

In other words, I didn't like the Deus Ex endings, but they worked very well for that game.

Bioware should have left them there.

Pfft...I suppose the second part is true, the fan reaction is huge but the 75 pefect thing makes it seem the fan reactions are all good.

It's the fan reaction part that's set the forum alight, really you folk should get out sometimes, spending all your time in this thread is not good for your health, get out an explore other threads, get plenty of fresh air news.

But there are so many threads and I have so little rage left at this point. Damn you, apathy, you always ruin all my fun!

I actually avoided Mass Effect like the plague because I am not into shooters, it was only by watching a walk through I realized it was much more than a shooter.

I remember I had it ordered for release day on the 360. When I got to the Citadel and saw the Destiny Ascension flying past the window it blew my mind. I don't think I stopped playing it for weeks. I got ME2 on release day as well and did the same thing, played it for weeks non stop. Now I have a pc instead, ME, ME2, and DAO are the only games I went and rebought for the PC. Notice how they are all Bioware games? I won't be doing that again.

If the marketing department at my company put out a advertisement that misleading about a product, the responsible parties would be sacked by close of business...

At least they didn't tag it with "...and raised over eighty thousand dollars for charity..."

I have recently found myself licking windows. "Why?" You ask? Simple. I find licking windows to be more enjoyable as ME3s ending, and lets face it...the ending does seem to put some stress on the sanity levels of those who go through it.

There is nothing inherently wrong in what they said, but their timing sucks.

smh...saw that pic on Tumblr, almost spit up my breakfast. I can't believe the arrogance and complete ignorance to the issues with the game. Now that dust has settled and I've really gone over the game (from a writing standpoint), it's not just the ending sequence after Harbinger's beam that is wonked, pretty much everything from Thessia to the end is poorly written. And to put up "75 perfect scores" is meaningless. Video game reviews are not trustworthy because they get ad money from video game makers. Games have to be REALLY REALLY bad to get even 80 range scores. ME-3 is FAR from a 10 or 100 or perfect game. And everyone knows it. I played the story twice and upon realizing that the game doesn't really change, I dont wanna play it again. What does Game Informer say in their review? Relay Value = high. That's a flat out lie.

I agree, but doing anything but having a mass suicide pact at the studio with confession note will always ****** some people off.:D

True - but it's infuriating to see EA/BW co-opt/spin fan disappointment to market the product that disappointed them in the first place.

It's akin to advertising a the 2007 Virginia Tech shootings as an "..expert display of marksmanship by a dedicated and focused individual."

Some places, you just don't go.

And those people are horrible. Surely there must be one person in the studio who could return it to its former glory if given the chance.

Now if it were EA making the pact....
