Afternoon all! Hope everyone's well! Anyone played the Resurgence multiplayer stuff yet?
To me it seems a bit low that , YES, they release it for free, but the stuff included is pretty cool it will make more people spend REAL MONEY on the Spectre Packs...so they're probably making more money from releasing it for free then they would have by charging for it...IMHO
I spent loads of time getting 99900 credits last night and got a Krogan Soldier which is pretty cool. No Krogan Vanguard, Asari Justicar Adept, Batarian Soldier, Batarian Sentinel, Geth Engineer or Geth Infiltrator though
There's a problem with the system they use though: it's flawed beyond compare. Look at some of the other games out there, let's say, Halo reach, Call of Duty and Gears of War.
Each of these games boasts a PvP multiplayer with around 10 different major gametypes, all of which are editable for customized games. This keeps the players readily on the game because when they are bored, they can change gametype from, say, deathmatch to capture the flag. Then all of these games have a completely different mode, a survival mode, which is essentially half-multiplayer, with teams of human-controlled players going up against vast amounts of AI controlled enemies, in other words, exactly what ME3 has, but bigger, more customizable, and in the case of Call of Duty, even has special missions on the side to play through with a friend. This gives a player a bombardment of options, meaning that they can simply change to a different game mode and the gameplay will change. Mass Effect, however, has a single mode, with three seperate types of challenge every 3 waves, no randomized enemies and of course, nothing else. This means that the life of the game is too low.
Having a low game-life is bad, almost terrible, as it means that no matter what you toss out, people will be bored to death with it before the week is up. In other words, no matter what characters, weapons, maps or enemies they release, they won't do a good job of doing exactly what the DLC is intended to do: revive the game. Because it's so simple, the playability is shambolic, and means that people will get bored so easily that in future, they just don't buy the DLC because its boring.
Worst part is: they've cornered themselves with it, it'll be virtually unfeasible to add new modes into the game, or revamp the multiplayer to extend its life. Imagine buying Halo Reach, only to find that the story ends rather qucikly, and then all multiplayer modes are removed, except for one, which is basically firefight with only 5-7 different types of enemy, on one map, with only one round (5 waves), the game just doesn't have that much playability to it, and then there's no other modes to re-attract attention to it, adding new weapons and new characters doesn't extend game life enough to be viable, and a map will get awfully boring the moment you know all the defensible spots and enemy spawns.
So, not only is the singleplayer dead, but the multiplayer is going to be dying awfully soon as well. Unless of course, they manage to save it, but then there's still the issue that there's a lot of unhappy fans who won't pay for anything until you give them what they want, not something different.
