So we can't get the ending we want after all?

Also I now think the ME2 base (saving) might be very important!

First, the guide clearly states that there is a "secret" ending for those who've finished a New Game+. Whether this ending is a supplemental cut-scene or some new choice remains to be seen. The guide doesn't show screenshots or give many details due to "not wanting to spoil too much."
That one's pretty easy. We already know that after you beat the game, you can "keep playing" because it sends you back in time to a save right before the final conflict. So the ending can still be all doom and gloom for Liara and the Normandy, and then *presto* you talk to her again at an earlier moment in the timeline.
TRUE - and maybe this is grasping at straws here - but WHAT IF to get that ending you need to play the game through twice but do the final battle three times. That is:
1) Play game though once.
2) Play NG+ through once (so second full playthrough).
3) Upon completing NG+, it teleports you back to right before the final battle. THEN, fight the final battle AGAIN (3rd time). enjoy new ending.
Maybe?
EDIT: Can someone recommend this to Xio? If that does nothing, the only hope we have is in the Day 1 patch unlock / "true" endings.
*can't help but laugh* sry, but this is so much like the legend that you can resurrect General Leo in FFVI by killing 1,000,000 dinosaurs or save Aerith by all kinds of obscure machinations...there's just no way. Anyone who wants happiness for Shep & LI and plays ME3 will just have to fanwank against what really happens -- eternal separation.

Roger that Recentio but in order for there to be no "special ending" alluded to in the guide, the guide would have to be wrong. That's a hella-mistake. Or we could be misinterpreting it. So either
1) The guide is wrong and what we know is all there is
2) The guide is correct and the people playing it so far haven't figured out how to trigger the secret ending yet
3) The secret ending is a day 1 unlock or content in the day 1 patch, which would be gaming's best kept secret and epic move of all time
Guess we'll know soon

Maybe Bioware is waiting until March 6 to release something like a release day patch that unlocks or installs something that has yet to be unlocked for the Space versions.
Also, I swear I remember I heard that there were 7 endings but everyone is only talking about 6. Maybe I am mistaken but I think everyone is also jumping the gun a little.
Also the replay value matters, If there is no "good" ending, then I don't think I will play this game very often, however, if I know that there is one, I will play to try to get all the different endings knowing that there is always the option of going back and getting the good one.
Finally, I think what makes a "good" ending is that there be an option of Shep being with their LI at the end of the game. According to what people have said, I haven't read the leaks myself, supposedly shep gets stranded, well if shep is stranded with their LI then I will be content.
Essentially I think everyone should just calm down a little and see what the game is. If everyone is right and there is no good ending then I will join you, but I am going to play the game first and then decide. The Mass Effect team has made two great games so I will trust them.
One more thing, and I may quit. Remember when Bioware said that it is a good idea to save your ME3 saves? Why do that if there is not going to be any post story DLC's? maybe not but I don't think Bioware or anyone is telling everything at this point. I shall remain hopeful.
P.S. sorry I had a lot on my mind after seeing the launch trailer and this seemed, of the many topics out there, to be the best place to post, I know I was rambling somewhat. lol

"special ending" is a very ambiguous description. It could well mean that there's an aquarium screensaver at the end filled with f*ing paddlefish swimming among the stars. That's pretty "special."
I hope by some miracle it is possible that there's an ME3 ending that keeps Shepard and at least some of his team together at the end (without desparate fanwanking) or that saves the Normandy from its inbreed fate on Planet Deliverance. I hope so...but I really, really, really doubt it.

Well what I read from the reviewers so far, is that ME3 is the best of the trilogy not only good as some people say "DA2"
The game is under embargo, you won't hear anything bad about it until that ends anyway.

We have 4 days to wait anyway. But logically, these 6 endings shouldn't be the only ones.

Just watch, the special ending will be the universe spontaneously exploding. Out of the explosion flies a paddlefish leaving a rainbow trail, and Harbinger singing the nyan cat song.
