*snip*... if we start behaving aggressively then the press have every reason to call us whiney and entitled, I said before that the groups in question "Retake, HTL and HTW" are walking a tightrope, any aggression is going to shake that rope.

Very well said.

I'm still behind people willing to speak out and protest peacefully, but there is a definitively aggressive undertone in that call to action.

To take this away from the military metaphors and the attendant hazards therein, I'd like to propose a different analogy:

The Retake movement, at least in this thread, to me holds a lot of parallels to the fight against segregation and other abuses of basic human rights and liberties. We feel persecuted by an uncaring power and rightfully so, and rather than forming a revolutionary faction bent on victory at any cost, we have instead used the means that are available to us as Internet citizens. We use forums and blogs, which are the bus stops and cafaterias of our day, to stage nonviolent forms of protest such as sit-ins, peaceful demonstrations, assembies of like-minded individuals who gather together to say their piece and argue for a better tomorrow.

We are the line. We are not the enemy. We are not afraid.

And we will win.

Thank you!

No offense to some, this is what I get for going to sleep, returning to a thread that is showing signs aggression, if we start behaving aggressively then the press have every reason to call us whiney and entitled, I said before that the groups in question "Retake, HTL and HTW" are walking a tightrope, any aggression is going to shake that rope.

The groups have done a fantastic job, don't let it all be for nothing by taking an aggressive stance, you really need to stay above that kind of approach.

You're welcome.

I'm actually glad that someone took notice of my comment, because now that I think about it, I would very much prefer to get away from the aggressive, military-oriented metaphors. Yes, Mass Effect is military sci-fi (anyone who thinks otherwise doesn't know their genres very well), but that doesn't mean our movement has to be. If history is any indication, then we are going to garner far more sympathy as a group of amiable citizens petitioning for a redress of grievences than we will as a battalion of soldiers holding a defensive breastworks against some nameless entity.

I'm sorry, but that is still incorrect. This spirit of destiny, so to speak, permeated the entire Japanese high command. It was as integral to their military ethos as the need to "leave no man behind" is to ours in the modern era, and was no easier to abandon; their whole culture lived for the "decisive victory," the "moment of truth" that would announce for all to see that they had achieved victory beyond questioning (this was the imperative that led up to the Battle of Midway, and even resonated in the last mission of the Yamato). Hence why so few commanders saw the light, and only after it was far, far too late to stem the tide.

I recommend reading the book Flyboys to get a better understanding of what I'm talking about.

Haven't read that one. I'll pick it up. I try to read as many books as I can from as many sources as I can. So far I have three American WW2 books, and 2 british ones, one of which focuses on the pacific conflict. It dedicates a whole chunk to Iwo-Jima which kind of irritates me since all other books dedicate at least 50 pages minimum to the famous conflict, but I digress.

I haven't ever been able to find a WW2 book from a Japanese author though. I don't buy stuff online so I have to go with what I find in the library at the time.

It is a very good book, I learned much more from it than I expected to (before reading it, I had had no idea just how deep that mindsent went within the Japanese culture). Also, there's a reason why you won't find that many books about the Pacific War from Japanese authors, at least at your library: the Japanese themselves seem to have an aversion to recounting it to any great degree. They don't mind building models, playing video games and watching movies based on it, but all that has its own distinct slant on the period.

Much like our own fictive works and even documentaries about the war tend to.

OMFG The Witcher 2 just had an LotR reference!

Lol you too? :P there was also a star wars one earlier that had me laughing

Wait they had a Star Wars one? O,o Damnation I missed that one...:pinched:

Yeah lol, it wasn't as big as the LoTR one though, was a dialogue choice/persuasion choice that was worded like the "these aren't the droids your looking for" except insert elves for droids haha, love when he does that thing with his hand then his eyes glow and then whatever person it is your talking to agrees (haven't had it fail yet)
Edit: you reminded me of gettysburg with that "damnation" part haha

I know, its like a Paragon interupt or something~!

I feel like we should repurpose the "Do not f*** with us" speech from Fight Club to be used for the Retake ME effort.

I don't mind the military metaphors so long as they are contained within the group discussion, eg calling a member a soldier or officer, it's when it's used as an aggressive approach I begin to get uncomfortable, the internet is infamous for mistaken intent when it comes to words, how many times have we had to explain to someone "That's not what I/We meant"

Welcome back. Hey, I'm still here, people are still here, just lurking and trying to stomp on some aggression. I'm in one of those **** moods again, should probably check out for a bit before I chuck a BioWare and start destroying everything. The Witcher is almost finished downloading anyhow~:wizard:

By the way somebody help me find a good RPG to play:crying: I do not have enough money to buy a brand new copy of the witcher so I need something older.

I have Demon's/Dark Souls

(ME does not count atm)

DA:O DA2

Skyrim, Oblivion, Fallout 3 (Didn't like vegas)

I need something that I haven't already played to death and back. Aid is required here.

(Also speaking of RPG's wouldn't it be great if they made a Warhammer 40k RPG?)

Would people start hurling rocks at me if I came out and said that I've never really cared for the idea of The Witcher or its sequel? You see, I watched Yahtzee's reviews of both games, and while he and I do differ in our definition of what constitutes a good game, the fact that he is consistent in his opinions means that a solid baseline for comparison can be made.

Because of this I know that, like him, I would not find either game to be fun and entertaining.

Have you played the original Witcher? the Enhanced Edition Director's Cut is on Steam for 9.99

Or any of the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. games, they blow Fallout 3 and New Vegas out of the water.

*puts down rock quietly* Nope, nothing to see here.

I actually don't know much about it at all. Never watched reviews or anything. Just, a lot of people and fellow ME fans at that have been talking it up. Gonna give it a go, and if I don't like it, well it was only ten bucks. Less because of the exchange rate haha.

Well, Yahtzee doesn't do spoilers if he can help it, so I'd wager it'd be a good idea to nip on over to The Escapist and watch his videos.

I find that the guy goes out of his way to avoid giving credit to a game. I don't take him seriously, nor am I really sure he wants me to (despite how loud he may get about his opinions). Fun videos to watch, but that's about it.

Oh, before I go. DJ, you were not here before, so I'll tell you now. I wrote a "treatment" and sent to BW a long time ago. It's a version of what I would do with the patch we want. It's not my view of what a perfect endings should have been, and it's not against anything BW did. It takes from where we were left. It's just more than an "explanation" dlc.

So, take a look. Comments are welcome, through message or tomorrow when we meet again here. Feel free to include the link in your list if you want. It's a small 10-page word document, in a not so formal script format, but about it. It's not written as a story (book). It's a script treatment, so that's how I called it.

Thanks, and good night.

I'm still here, but I'm staring at my desktop trying to figure out what game to play. I keep jumping from game to game, because I'm having a hard time being motivated enough to play through any one of them. I'm blaming ME3 for killing that drive, lol.
