True that. Although for the "my life isn't bad" kick I normally just use Eastenders or some other crapy soap. Hmm, I've never really read manga/watched anime past a few series of Gundam (because giant metal not-robots are cool) and some stuff various flatmates/girlfriends have forced me to watch. As for JRPGs, I pick one up occasionly but for a while.
I guess that one just sticks in my mind because it really, really was depressing. The only happy moment in the game was when my guy got to tell his LI that he loved her, then they had a kiss and then she bled out in his arms 5 minutes later.
I've noticed a trend in games recently towards sad/depressing story moments. It's half the reason I love games like Trine (if you haven't played it then you should, it's freaking awesome) who buck the trend and manage to have decent gameplay, story and still be lighthearted despite the seriousness of the plot.
Haha, that is so Japanese! Should watch their TV shows. I watched one once where every single character except the blind girl died (the main character died too). By the end of the last episode, I was already used to people dying, so I didn't care anymore.
See, I don't mind sad/depressing if we get the option of having a nicer one. Wasn't killing most of your squadmates sad enough? You need to make sacrficies all over the game and then...nothing matters.
I was expecting an ending that I could compare to DA:O ending, and instead I got one ending with different colors and a "buy DLC" message...
So we can't get the ending we want after all?

One thing to consider is the Mass Effect film. If the series is allowed to fade then the film will probably never get made - which is billions of $ lost to EA/BW.
Sorry but can I call you on something the money lost from the ME film would just be speculation. because the film is in such and early stage there is limited capital invested and so EA don't stand to loose much actual capital jsut the opportunity for more.
Looking at this from an economics point of view there is an opportunity cost involved in the EC DLC, it the choise of do we satisfy current customers of Mass Effect or do we spend the capital elsewhere.
You know what I might do my economics report on this Whole issue.
The right would have cost a bit but hiring actors, set designs, make-up, hell the guy who makes the tea. it these things that haven't been invested in and that the real cost of films at least it seems that way to me. and at this time very little of this has been set up so EA won't lose money on that but neither will they gain
The film rights were given to Legendary Pictures (that is the same company as made the Batman films), but Bioware will be involved in production - at least two Bioware writers are/were helping to develop the script.
Regardless of how much money EA/BW might put into the film (and they would not be picking up the whole cost anyway), if it was released and even fairly successful it could potentally bring in $100 million from ticket sales alone - and three or four times that in DVD sales and merchantise. Since EA/BW hold the rights to the franchise that could translate as some $50-$150 million (or more than the entire ME franchise to date) in their pockets.
Currently the film is in the very early stages of development, and as far as I'm aware they have not finished the screenplay or cast any roles. At this stage in production they will be looking to find investors to fund the film, but poor ME3 sales or a bad reception is likely to make it difficult to find people willing to back it - especially since films based on Video Games are rarely a success and therefore seen as a risky proposition.
Now EA *could* probably afford to fund the entire film from its own coffers. But given that they are still trying to claw back the money spent on developing The Old Republic and that their share price has been falling, it is unlikely that they would be willing to take such a risk.
As the film is still in the very early stages of pre-production, it would cost little to nothing to put the project on hold - and knowing the film industry if it was to be put on hold chances are it wouldn't be made for at least a decade, if ever.

That buy DLC was the worst thing they could have done tbh. It was like "here, a pile of dog crap. Let me just rub your face in it."
I wouldn't have been particularly bothered by it after a decent ending but after The Ending it just made things even worse.
