It was rather fun! Went bowling, saw a movie, then went to the beach. Ate at the resturant BJ's as well.

BBQ chicken Pizza ftw. :D

You know, even if this dlc DOES fix everything... which I doubt... it's still not gonna be released until summer. Meaning we've gotten an incomplete damn game. Honestly, did they even BETA test this as a full game? Maybe people assumed they'd just gotten the worst possible ending...

But honestly, the ending is just not appropriate for an rpg. The players should be able to choose their own ending based on their own Shepard. Because they're NOT the same, Bioware - this is an rpg in which people create their own characters.

This ending does not work with all characters, there has to be options. (Not to mention it's not very well written either and does not follow the unwritten rules of storytelling.)

If they were going to mess it up like this anyway, why not just SKIP the godchild? Maybe it turns out Shepard is the cataclyst for one reason or the other, maybe the lazarous project making him/her part synthetic, maybe a person that has resisted indoctrination as much as shep has and that is why only he/she can do this?

Or just say screw the cataclyst entirely, the crucible is JUST a weapon that kills reapers. You activate it, then either die on the spot, die in the hospital after saying goodbye to your LI/squad, or wake up in said hospital after that and survive. It's not a very happy ending either way, even when you survive, all of humanity needs to evacuate Earth and billions of people of all races are dead.

Those are the kind of endings + epilogue based on previous choices I was looking for. Instead I got Godchild and blue, red green. Figures. >>

That's the formula they had with their other games. You had options as to how your story would end.  If death through sacrifice was one, you had that path, if survival and victory was another one then you had that as well.

They could be happy/sad, they could be sad/sad, bittersweet, heck even bitter. The fact of the matter is is there is a choice and how you see it end is what matters. Options is the main ingredient here, but the bowl was missing a few.

I wouldn't be surprised if half of what we get in the Extended Cut DLC is stuff that was dummied out of the original release. In fact, it's probably the only way we'll get what we're hoping for by their supposed summer release schedule.

Can't say I blame them for that, really.

Of course the EC will be stuff that should've been in the original release, all the DLCs nowadays are that!

By which of course I meant dummied out in the technical sense, meaning that it'll be content that was coded into the ending but was abandoned for whatever reason. As is often the case, it's simply easier to cut the route to such unused data than it is to remove the data entirely; this goes all the way back to the days of the game cartridge, when software architecture had to be rather spartan in order to save space and shave off time, a mindset which hasn't changed overmuch through the years. The From Ashes DLC is another matter, which I'll avoid entirely thank you very much.

Exactly. There should be an option in which you fail completely too, this isn't about getting sad or happy endings. It's about having choices in an rpg, which should be something obvious but nowdays isn't it sometimes seems. Which is incredibly sad. RPG to me is the ultimate reality escape and then I can't even decide how the journey ends in this game. And there really is only one ending, even if it has different effects on the galaxy (which we never even get to SEE) which is just not what most were looking for. Or at least that seems to be the general opinion among gamers.

And as I mentioned before I'm not even going in on how badly written the ending was here. The lack of choices is simply the major flaw, I believe.

Something to consider:

How many of us who have watched the later Star Trek series has fantasized about having their own personal holodeck, or else using one that is available for rent?

All of you, right?

Yes, I thought as much.

The point of this is that holodeck entertainment, as embodied by Star Trek lore, is the ultimate experience in terms of role-playing games. Except it's not just you handling a controller or a mouse and keyboard setup; you are quite literally the protagonist in body as well as spirit. No matter what genre of escapism you prefer, from shooters to flight and vehicle sims, if they're on a holodeck they will automatically take on the primary characteristics of the RPG. That, ladies and gentlemen, is the wave of the future, and any holo-novelist worth the title will have to take that into account.

With the appearance of the Tupac hologram, it's pretty much a given that we'll have holodeck technoloogy within our lifetimes. At least in my opinion.

Perhaps, but until force field projection becomes a reality, then you won't be able to physically interact with anything.

Morning people.

You know what really blows with the ending? I analysed what really is the ultimate insult for me with the ending as it stands now for my friend the other day.
And that is:

I should love this ending. No kidding, no joking, it's precisely the type of artsy, new, even groundbreaking type of resolution to games, and I like to think (some) games to be art. An ending to a choice bases game that forces you to write the resolution inside your head? Genius.

The problem:
You want to slap that ending to ME? Seriously?
Mass Effect is not art kind of game, other than concept art. Heavy Rain is. Journey is. ICO is. Shadow of the Colossus is. Who was it who said that the ending is not the ending to the story being told? Because that what it boils down to.

And now that I have made one meaningful contribution to the thread, I can return to business as usual, as soon as I find an opening demanding a dirty joke, or some point which begs for derail.

The fact that you mentioned Tupac makes you 5 times cooler now. The post itself was good but man did you add to it with by mentioning Pac.
