Alright time for me to step off the line for the evening, and attack the rack. This cold is kicking my butt today. Hopefully the meds and a good night's sleep will kick its butt.

Does BioWare know how much is riding on the EC? I'd like to think they do, but I can't really say that is good faith.

Thoughts?

Don't even get me started...I'm very negative today...:crying:

At the very least it's going to cut into their next game's pre-orders, which is their bread and butter. You can only under deliver and mislead your consumers for so long. After DA2, Mass Effect Deception (fitting name btw) and ME3, I'm sure even if people continue to buy Bioware games, they will have a "wait and see" policy.

I'm betting that Bioware has used up it's consumer's collective trust by now.

Right about what?

I'm not right, I'm just vaguely truthful to the point that everyone just becomes enraged at my ambiguity!

Hey everyone!

One of my co-workers just finished Mass Effect 3 and we talked about the ending at lunch today. He knew going in that a lot of people were disappointed, so he was ready for it, but said the end didn't bother him too much. He just wished they'd actually showed the quarians on Rannoch.

So of course I went on a 'the fleet is trapped in the Sol system and the relays are destroyed, so they'll never see Rannoch again!' rant... and now I'm wondering. Are most of the people who are fine with the endings just optimists who assumed the best, like my co-worker?

I mean, I know I'm naturally pessimistic, but I thought it was kinda warranted in this case after watching all the relays destroy themselves in a giant chain reaction. Maybe we weren't supposed to think about it this hard. Joker and company by some leafy green trees = good ending!

I think ME3 should have a warning on the back:

"Warning, do not play it if you do not like picking colors and getting the same ending or if you have a favorite color other than red, green, or blue"

but what about people who are colour blind Image IPB

"you can pick from 3 colours, grey, grey AND you guessed it grey"

Especially when everything happened in such a short amount of time. If DA2 had been released 3 years ago, and now this had happened, yeah, consumers would be able to tolerate it, but everything happened in like a year.

And yes, ME Deception WAS a deception...like ME3 ending...:crying:

What bothered me most was I thought I'd done something wrong.. I figured that I had to because Shepard vapourized, the Normandy crashed on deserted planet and the mass relays exploded stranding them (I hadn't even thought of the whole Galaxy ending thing at that point, that came an hour later, about the time I realized that it didn't matter WHAT ending I picked, I got the same crappy cutscene for all 3, just different coloured)..

It broke the player covenant that Bioware is always touting in that my expected consequences to the actions didn't match up with my actions to that point... it didn't matter what I did to that point, it all ended the same way... that's part of why I was so upset... really Bioware should have seen this coming, it's THEIR player covenant and they're ALWAYS saying that if you break it you upset the player... well, they broke it, and they upset the players.. all at once lol... and then they showed up on their doorstep with trebuchets, catapults and a bunch of rotting husks/cupcakes/small helpless hospitalized childen to toss over the castle walls in protest.

Outstanding. I have not read it all yet, but it sums up how I feel about Mass Effect, well said!

Well, considering you're the one that was literally asking for my post, I'm glad you enjoyed it

I really like the response to the blog. It's motivated me to do another entry sooner or later.

I would like love more comments about it, because I appreciate everyone's feedback, and want you to know that I am listening.

Yes, I read it and I love it. It perfectly sums up how the chaos theory in ME3 played out in the atrocious ending. I think it has been focus-grouped, and overwatched by ovebearing producers. So many aspects stood out, like the over-sexed Ashley Williams, Diana Allers, and EDI. Did their groups suggest that increasing breast cup sizes would increase profits?<_<

I didn't mention it in my post, but yeah, you've nailed the reason for both EDI and Allers' existence in the game. EDI herself is comically hypersexualized with the character model they gave her. Yeah they point it out and laugh about it within the game itself, but it doesn't really forgive the blatant nature of it all.

And the reason they did what they did to Ashely is the same reason they spend time strategically (but not so subtly) positioning the camera behind Miranda's ass. And the answer to that is not artistic integrity, lol.

Hell, look at Shepard herself

Maybe such a change is required to be able to save the galaxy. Who knows.

I agree with this just from the depressing experience of viewing the other colored choices online after I tried to find a better ending than the one I first experienced.

But I hadn't really been following any of the advertising for ME3. Reading some of the pre-release developer quotes or watching the online interviews now is a bit maddening. It boggles my mind some of the things that were said so close to release when they *knew* they weren't in the game.

Oh well. Hopefully the Extended DLC will help. I can't imagine it'll ever feel like 16 truly different endings if they can't change or add gameplay content, but we'll see.

Actually, the "no technology" thing doesn't bother me that much. Or the "no Mass Relays"....I figured they can all rebuild that. What does bother me is that no matter what you do, it will always lead to that ending. And that the mass relays exploding does not destroy the galaxy (plot hole)

Honestly, I could deal with any kind of  sacrifice as long as I could choose what I want to sacrifice not be forced to do it...

Yes, I agree. I think it is sad that Bioware needed to result to such cheap tricks, especially since some of their characters had some interesting things to say. It points to someone thinking nobody cares about dialogue--arguably the most important aspect of Mass Effect--and more about T and A. :(

I agreeto an extent, but definitely not with thoughts on Ashley. All they changed on Ashley was her hair. It's not in a bun, it's down. And they show her in regular clothes. They barely changed her at all.

The blatant ass shots of Miranda are funny as hell, but look how popular it was in ME2. There's memes about it, there's videos showcasing her ass on youtube. To them, that's approval. And sex sells. There's no denying it. If Liara was a tentacle monster, or Tali was an Elcor, I doubt they'd be as popular as they are.

And I forgot, ask an average male gamer why they play as a female. 85% of the time is," I'd rather stare at a hot female ass all day than some dude's." That's what Bioware is dealing with, that's what they use as feedback. To me, they got the characters 100% right.
