Been reading some reviews looking for books to buy ... One review of an interesting-sounding story was titled "Hated the ending". Dude please. I survived the ME3 ending -- scarred, but still survived -- how much worse could this be?

TamiBx wrote...

Actually, the "no technology" thing doesn't bother me that much. Or the "no Mass Relays"....I figured they can all rebuild that. What does bother me is that no matter what you do, it will always lead to that ending. And that the mass relays exploding does not destroy the galaxy (plot hole)

Honestly, I could deal with any kind of  sacrifice as long as I could choose what I want to sacrifice not be forced to do it...

Must say I wish I could be as optimistic as you about that. It's certainly a possibility; I just don't rate the chances of it happening as very high. I get the impression that the mass relays are not well understood. They're based on a technology that is not well understood. We do have Aethyta talking about building them, for one, but I never really got a sense of how ready they were, immediately, to carry it out. If the races of the galaxy had set a plan to build mass relays, to organise time and resources and co-ordinate the effort, I believe they could have done it; as it is, resources are scattered, fleets are scattered, communications are crippled, and there was very little advance preparation for this as a possible outcome of the war (it is marked "desperate measures" after all).

ANYWAY, sorry for that ramble. None of that really matters now. What I can agree with you on is that sacrifice would have been fine as a -choice-. And on that plot hole about mass relays exploding. Never mind that argument about whether it takes an asteroid slamming into it or not. All the mass relay needs to do to unleash that deadly amount of energy is "rupture" -- which they clearly do.

I didn't mention it in my post, but yeah, you've nailed the reason for both EDI and Allers' existence in the game. EDI herself is comically hypersexualized with the character model they gave her. Yeah they point it out and laugh about it within the game itself, but it doesn't really forgive the blatant nature of it all.

And the reason they did what they did to Ashely is the same reason they spend time strategically (but not so subtly) positioning the camera behind Miranda's ass. And the answer to that is not artistic integrity, lol.

Hell, look at Shepard herself
i42.tinypic.com/29o5u0j.jpg

Maybe such a change is required to be able to save the galaxy. Who knows.

I agreeto an extent, but definitely not with thoughts on Ashley. All they changed on Ashley was her hair. It's not in a bun, it's down. And they show her in regular clothes. They barely changed her at all.

The blatant ass shots of Miranda are funny as hell, but look how popular it was in ME2. There's memes about it, there's videos showcasing her ass on youtube. To them, that's approval. And sex sells. There's no denying it. If Liara was a tentacle monster, or Tali was an Elcor, I doubt they'd be as popular as they are.

And I forgot, ask an average male gamer why they play as a female. 85% of the time is," I'd rather stare at a hot female ass all day than some dude's." That's what Bioware is dealing with, that's what they use as feedback. To me, they got the characters 100% right.

I know they are pandering, that's why I called them out on that pandering. It can be done subtly like it was with Tali and Liara, but they decided that wasn't enough anymore. I would go as far as to say small amounts like that are almost necessary. But they just started throwing it in your face in ME2, and took it a step further in ME3. That EDI model is a joke.

And no, I don't think they got the characters 100% right either. That's one thing I think Bioware used to be able to do. They haven't actually gotten close to that for a while imo.

So, for all I know this has been mentioned already - but a comment from a semi-official source had been bugging me lately, and I finally got annoyed enough to look it up.

Anyway, the comment basically was that the galaxy is not in fact borked because they still have normal FTL drives.

So I did the math.

"With a mass effect drive, roughly a dozen light-years can be traversed in the course of a day's cruise." -Mass Effect Wiki

Now, Rannoch is practically the other edge of the galaxy from Earth. It would take a ship the next best thing to 28 years (flight time, not counting stops for refueling, repairs, etc.) to traverse the entire galaxy - in a straight shot, and we already have been told that the core is too dangerous to go through so they'd have to detour around it.

How exactly are the Quarians not well and truly screwed?

I can drink to that! :wizard:

Actually, EDI didn't bother me at all when I first played through. Her gaining a body genuinely came as a surprise and I liked taking her along in my squad. However, I can't disagree with the assessments that her character model shows symptoms of the over-sexualisation present in the game. I mean, Jack even comments that she looks like a sexbot, which shocked me at first, but there is a point to be made there.

Not sure if it's still active, but a little while ago there was a reasonably long thread that discussed the maths of travelling across the galaxy without the mass relays. There were a lot of things to factor in to those calculations, so it's hard to say what the clearest estimates were, but as a general rule they were at the very least a couple of years, most likely a decade or two, and in the worst case scenarios possibly a lot more.

In short, people were trying to uphold optimism with the view that, all other things ignored, the homeworlds could be reached within the races' lifespans. I don't ascribe to this optimism at all, but to respond to your post, some actually identify the quarians as having one of the best chances, considering that they're used to being mobile. That certainly doesn't mean the outlook for them is much brighter.

Morning.  The only thing I would add is the beginning felt rushed as well.  Even someone like myself was like "Who in the hell is this guy Vega and why is my Shep so friendly to him?" as with other questions.  I feel sorry for those who play ME3 as their 1st ME as their probably more confused as to what the hell is going on.

I know some will say of course you have to speed things up.  The Reapers have arrived and you have to leave quickly to save Earth, but then why can you spend all that time running around and chatting in the Citadel like you have all the time in the world.  I would have like some sort of trial option where you can catch up on previous events.  Plus where was Hackett to defend me as he was the one that sent me on that mission on Arrival not Anderson.

I agree, I think someone erased that whole "Shepard on Trial" scenario that the Arrival Downloadable Content promised. Yet again, probably because of time constraints. It would have been a kick-arse way to catch up the audience with all major decisions: The Citadel Council, the Rachni Queen, the Collector's Base, etcetera.

Honestly I was saving exactly that for a seperate post on how they rushed certain things and didn't think about them all the way through. One thing I will say about the opening that despite how disjointed and lacking it was, it still did create a real sense of urgency. I was seriously left wondering how I was going to have any time left over for sidequests, and all. I thought that if they were going to be included, they would have to be of major importance and give me a real reason as to why I need to do them. And then I actually played the rest of the game. And then I lol'd.

Like you said, the sense of urgency just disappears when you're wandering the citadel and taking these quests. I at one point forgot that the we were even in the middle of a Reaper invasion. I was too busy scanning for some Turian war bible on some god forsaken planet.

Indeed.

I was so looking forward to a Trial of the Century-type dealio to start off the final installment, with Shepard defending herself in front of a court martial or at the very least a board of inquiry. Instead, we got a stupid back-and-forth between a "committee" that is conveniently interrupted by the Invasion.

Blecch.

Nah. Who needs the trial we were supposed to get, when instead they can trivialize the whole reaper invasion of earth and turn it into a demo for instructions on combat controls. Because that's what this game is all about right, the combat? lol

Of course I understand the need for player training, and yeah it makes sense to have The Invasion provide that, but they still could've had a proper prologue. Basically it could've been like what the Genesis DLC was for ME2 (PC gamer here), but not in silly comic book form.

So I leve for a few weeks to heal and recuperate, I check forbes see that the complaint to the BBB was actually taken seriously, found it jaw dropping to be honest, I come here to find out everyone's reactions and I see that this damn thread is still going, not with the faces I remember but with entirely new people....wow just wow.
