Was just thinking about DA2 and how bioware migth have learned from it. Maybe DA2 sold well, it did get reviews with as mush as 94/100. Nope, barely sold half as much as Dragon age origins.
If the endings we know of right now are true, then how likely to you think the same thing will happen? I still have faith that the game will be tons of fun right up intill the end. In fact i think many people who have never played the games before will think its great because they never connected to the characters and got emotionally attached to them.
SASHIMI FOR THE WIN!!!!
Thank you! Was wondering about that. Look what we can learn:
1) Pre-order sales are an indicator of how much fans liked the previous game, not how good the game will do. 2/3 of DA2's week 1 sales were from pre-orders.
2) It took about 2 weeks for word of mouth to get out enough that hey, don't buy this.
3) With DA2, over 2/3 of the first 10 week's sales occurred in the first two weeks. With DA:O, sales actually INCREASED as time went on due to word of mouth matriculating slowly. Point is: bad word of mouth spreads like wildfire, good word of mouth takes time to get around. DA:O had higher sales 8 weeks after launch than any other week except the launch week.
What does this mean for us?
1) When a company is expecting people to complain about it and negative word of mouth to spread, they should do everything they can to hype it up and do whatever they can to try and get as many early sales as possible before negative word of mouth overcomes the marketing hype.
2) When it appears sales are flagging, before cutting price companies will try and throw in more freebee's (free DLC / older products) to spur sales. The sooner we see these "for a limited time only, get ME and ME2 with every new ME3!!!" promotions, the worse we know ME3 is selling.
Does anyone happen to have a history of, or even know off the top of your head, when the freebee's started rolling out with DA2? I saw them come across all the time on facebook and would laugh at "this week's new DA2 freebee is", never thought I'd ever need to use it as a data point.
