So, has someone debunked the Strategy-Guide guy in the past 20 pages or so because we've all gone back to assuming there are no other endings?

His stuff looks very solid and his photos are definately NOT photoshopped. The cover of that guide is real. I wondered from time to time why the two huge aquarium in Sheppard's quarters. I also wondered why that particular fish was so expensive to the other fish. And I wondered why that particular fish was listed as a war asset.

I still can't believe we could be saved by a fish.
It would be hilarious though.

I can hardly believe people fell for that magical-fish-ending tripe in the first place. How could BW create a full-fledged happy ending based on the life and times of a d**ed fish?

Maybe it's a sign of just how badly people want a better ending for Shep & squad.

This is why we don't let Joker have nice things.  This is also why we don't leave Joker in command of our ship.. Didn't ME2 teach us about what happens when we do that? BAD THINGS. Damn it Joker!

The whole marketing "nightmare" as you call it is temporary.

How long do you think it will take for the actual endings to get out after official release? A few days at most. Then you'll see the first articles on the web. "OMG, BIOWARE HID THE ENDINGS FROM NDA BREAKERS! TIS AWESOME!"

You think the people who cancelled won't be back if enough of those pop up?

And just for info, I am not saying this is what is happening. I am just pointing out that the "marketing nightmare" as you call it is not really a nightmare. They might even generate more sales from people who say "wow, that was a ballsy move." ;)

Why in the hell, if you knew your endings would be leaked, would you intentionally make them bad? Why not make them good to get people to talk positively about them and openly encourage sales, not discourage them?

If it's a marketing ploy, and there do turn out to be better endings, by some stretch of a miracle, then, yes, I'll gladly eat my own words. I'll hand you the spoon to feed them to me. But, by this point, I don't expect anything to change short of a paid DLC option, which even then seems unlikely given the whole "no post game dlc" statements.

Do you have a quote to that article? I would love to read that.

I just need someone to pat my head and tell me it's going to be okay.

Ok read this information from march 1'st, and yes everything will be okay.

There's trolling pirates, then there's trolling contest winners who won, according to the rules, early copies of the game.

Then, there's trolling pirates with poor gameplay (see Batman), but there weren't any gameplay issues of that magnitude according to the people who played legitmate copies. They were still able to play and beat the game, which sort of renders anti-piracy measures irrelevant if players can still play and beat the game.

Then there's trolling pirates with "bad endings", knowing that info will get pirated, leaked, and turn into a PR nightmare with fans threatening to cancel pre-orders or just be done with the series. Why would people pirating the game care if the endings were bad? The only inevitable result would be to ****** off the fanbase as a whole more than a handful of pirates.

Like I've said, they either "trolled" the public, who still has a chance to buy into or cancel their orders, by generating negative buzz intentionally in a suicidal marketing campaign to spite pirates, or they just wrote and implemented an awful script/design/marketing nightmare. Based on the evidence presented, the latter is the more logical.

I will , and i have said it all along. If this is all untrue, or a ploy to hide the real endings, i will most definatly remove the huge foot from my mouth and immediatly go buy the game full price.

unlikely though.

I'd like to know this too. Weren't there TWO people who claimed to have seen the guide, and to have photos coming to back it up. Still haven't seen any photos... so my instinct is to call bull****.

Then here are his photos: http://s1256.photobu...8/cleanslate84/
You can't make that up in a few days nor the cover of the guide.

Here is his original post:
Let me preempt the future onslaught of accusations by making it clear that I haven't played Mass Effect 3, nor do I have any inside knowledge of the endings. I have, however, seen the Prima strategy guide. How? I work at a large electronics retailer and we received the guides yesterday.

First, the guide clearly states that there is a "secret" ending for those who've finished a New Game+. Whether this ending is a supplemental cut-scene or some new choice remains to be seen. The guide doesn't show screenshots or give many details due to "not wanting to spoil too much." Second, it states that the endings are different based on whether or not you kept the Collector's Base in ME2. It says if you don't import a character it assumes you destroyed the base. Third, there's apparently a "special reward available only to players who imported a save from Mass Effect 2 with the Prejek Paddlefish purchased by Commander Shepard. If the Prejek Paddlefish survives through all of Mass Effect 3 and Mass Effect 3 New Game Plus, visit Liara's quarters aboard the Normandy for a very special intel bonus." Now, to me, that implies that the special ending doesn't involve Shepard dying or the Normandy crashing for no apparent reason. How else could you visit Liara unless you survived the end of the game?

I took pictures of the relevant page in the guide with my phone but I'm having difficulty uploading them to my pc. I have an LG Dare... and it sucks. I'll keep trying.

Why hasn't anyone seen this ending? Not sure. My guess is that Bioware is smarter than we think and didn't allow anyone but devs to see it. Perhaps the space edition is not the full game. I highly doubt Prima messed up their guide so badly as to list parts of the game that don't exist. Anyway, just thought I'd let everyone know that it might be wise to not cancel your Collector's Edition preorders.

Something tells me the crap ending isn't going to change based on what fish you bought in ME2...

God, we really are clutching at straws, aren't we? I'm sure someone could write a fascinating psych article about how people (myself included) got so emotionally enamoured with this game.

I don't know why. Discourage NDA Leaks. Make NDA leaks less useful? Don't spoil it for the people who are still waiting for the game? Any number of silly reasons come to mind.

I don't know and we all don't know, that's the thing. Along with the 265 MB launch day patch and the prima strategy guide though...it seems like the leakers haven't told the full story (or have been able to).

Haha, at this point, knock yourselves out. Really. If you want to completely ignore everything that's been presented in favor of a promise that's presented to promote game sales, knock yourselves out. You deserve to be let down by this point, and it will hopefully teach you an important lesson about trust and making informed decisions.

Wrong. Pics and vids came from the pirated copy, Xoisite (who won a legitimate copy if the contest's own rules/marketing are to be believed), and, I believe, other sources as well, all of which showing the same thing and confirming one aspect that was maybe absent in another.

Why the hell would they use a bait copy that plays perfectly fine excpet for crap endings that pirates may or may not even care about, but, when leaked, would clearly cause fans to panic/ get pissed? If that's the case, it's an awful decision to make.

Please allow me to reiterate

1.  Xio is in violation of his NDA.
3.  The vids come from a Russian Pirate copy

Addendum
If you beleive in someone who is saying something they are legaly not supposed to, ok.
The pirate copy doesn't have a crack yet.
Also, the only people angry so far are the people who cheated and looked at the spoilers. (Yes me too)

Discourage NDA leaks? Again, if they knew it was going to be leaked, why wouldn't they want what was leaked to generate positive news? Is negative publicity and casting a shadow of doubt over their touted "masterpiece, which has already resulted in cancelled preorders, really worth teaching the Internet as a whole the value of an NDA? You don't need a bad ending to a game series to discourage an NDA, you need to prosecute violaters with a multi million dollar lawsuit, not just give them a few "bad endings".

Also, from people who have already downloaded the patch, no new video files. Prima strategy guide can easily be explained away in light of what has actually been mined from the game itself.

At this point, you're basically ignoring what's been presented out of faith that BioWare wouldn't "do this", and it really comes down to facts vs faith, and on that front, I can't help you.

While I honestly think the leaked endings are legit, between the guide, the very odd teleportation thing (which I can't imagine someone would have missed in the design process), the contradictory hints the devs have dropped, and the big day-1 patch, I feel like we may just be completely missing something. Yeah, could easily just be bad guide writing, bad plot design, lies, and bug fixes all at once, but this whole thing just kinda smells funny.

He's openly acknowledged this, and there's question as to whether or not it's even valid because of how he was presented with it. The files are no longer just coming in from him and the Russian leak now. People are now posting audio files that support the video clips as well, which, I believe, are now being extracted from people who have preloaded the Origin copies as well.

It's no longer a matter of the word of one or two individuals, or video from one or two sources.

You can explain away all you want. Fun fact...I'm not explaining anything away. I'm looking for an explanation why we have differing sources. What you are doing is clinging religiously to the leaks and to the "only bad endings" theory.

Me, I look at the guide and the reports from other people who've played it and wonder why there would be a discrepancy between them and the other leaks.

It's always fun to blame someone for ignoring the obvious, but fact is, YOU are ignoring an official source of the game and saying it is not true (Guide says there is locked ending for example, which we have not been shown by any leaker).

For me, it's a win win situation. I am already quite confident that within the context of the game, the endings will be OK for my Shepard. I'm not clinging to anything. I'm just looking at ALL the sources and NOT dismissing any one of them.

I can easily see your point - however this occurs during your second playthrough with the same Sheppard. The fish allows Sheppards to get special INTEL from Liara - now to me this is where here 50 years and working at Shadow Broken which she alluded to namely she hinted there was more Prothean and this seems to line up very well with Laira's knowledge!
