Aye... Its just not a viable business-plan... Just like that ME mini-game that was only made available for IOS and not Android... I like my Android-phone, I dont feel the need to buy an iPhone, or an iPad... or a completely new gaming system for that matter...

Honestly for certain games concepts; I think it would be sweet.......sports games it would work well; rpgs possibly but would have to be well done.......or maybe just able to access codexes - or lore.....

City building - civ games.......again could be some good ideas there.....

I think as additions; not being forced onto people......that's where they could be turning people off

It would be building on something like what Ubisoft is trying to do with Uplay.

On a public forum. With people I don't know. Just as every single IT guy has taught throughout the history of mankind.  

As for the article, I like and dislike the multiple devices approach. It really depends on the devices. For example, an app that can be used with most phones = ok, pretty nice, as long as not mandatory
An app that can be only used via iPad 8 vol 7.5 with silver casing, cost 2000 E = not cool.
