In ME1, it's explained that the Reapers created the Mass Relays and other tech for the civilizations to find, so they could evolve on the path the Reapers wanted them to. Then in ME3, The star baby says that organics will always create synthetics.
So doesn't that mean that organics create synthetics because the Reapers set them on the path to create synthetics?
So the star baby creates Reapers, a synthetic/organic hybrid, to kill organics before they create synthetics that will kill organics, but for the Reapers to kill the organics more efficiently , they invented tech that would give organics the knowledge to create the synthetics that would eventually kill organics, even though the Reapers wanted to make it so organics wouldn't create synthetics.
So then they used synthetics created by organics, to kill the organics because the Reapers, even though the Reapers were meant to stop the synthetics killing organics, by preemptively killing organics.
Someone sat down, wrote this out, and said,"This is an awesome ending."

Shhhh... all this circular logic is going to give you a headache, trust me I know, I've been down this road so many times. Take a deep breath, step away from the circular logic and hope Bioware figures it out before it's to late.

Well the only "good" Explanation for the yo dawg ****, is that the reapers want to give life a breif chance, and act as gardeners and "prune" civilisation when it starts to grow too much, but you could also argue why not keep life in little cages or prison worlds or somthing, the whole plan is too elaborate and full of risk.
I suppose that not every villan HAS to explode in a puff of logic when you point out the problems in their plan, thats what makes them scary, they don't listen to logic or reason and only see their way of doing things, no mater what you say....
Still hate it though

That's giving the writers too much credit. No one came into this game expecting to talk the reapers into submission. We weren't afraid of the reapers becuase they were a bunch of stubborn babies, but because of the fear that they were going to wipe us out and there was nothing we could do about it. The ending doesn't play on that at all.BigglesFlysAgain wrote...

They turn it into "We exist for some reason that makes no sense, and you can make us go away with the push of a button." It's BS.

It tis, I meant villans in general though, not the reapers
There was not just a reaper off button, there was also a reaper sleep mode, and a reaper control joystick too

Wouldn't it have been better if we never found out why the Reapers were created and why they wish to destroy all highly developed organic life. I think it would have been more sinister that way.

Well in hindsight with this explanation it certainly would be... But then you would have to have the superweapon that destroys them explain how it does that and that would presumably have to tie into their creation somehow, otherwise its just a big Laazer... or space magic.... then again thats what we have now.

This is one reason why I've always been in favor of the "refuse" option. The Crucible is the same kind of thing that the Architect in the Matrix trilogy represented: a trap, another means of control. Play it straight up like that, no mysticism, dodgy logic or narrative disconnect, and give Our Heroine one last chance to make a grand epic speech and to show a really effing awesome series of battle cutscenes.
And then the appropriate epilogue sequences.

Ye, after I breifly saw shepards conversation with the starchild again today when i watched that parody video, I remembered how pathetic he is, and he talks to starkid like he is a real child who might be scared if he raises his voice at all, if they don't change the options they just have to redo that scene so we don't suddenly have commander timid
LoL, I just imagined that the ending was like some kids tv show and shepard stares at the screen and goes
"Can you help me defeat the reapers?"
"You can?"
"Thats great, now tell me what your favorite colour is...."
"Thats great! mine too!"

Well, Shepard has been so badly battered by that beam (alliteration FTW!) that I'm not surprised she's barely able to talk during that scene. Still, there was lots of potential for a real mind-screw as Starbrat (who in my head is really Harbinger) morphs into various forms to try and taunt Shepard into taking one of those pseudo-options. Intersperse those bits with cutscenes showing how the fleets battle, and you've got the potential for an epic finale.
Alas, such a waste...
