Silmarilion is actually very good.
i prefer it to lord of the rings. i dontn even talk about the hobbit as its for kids.

As much as I like the books I find Tolkien's writing style makes for a very hard read. I've read the LoTR series a few times and each time I wonder why I put myself through it lol. That's probably why I never finished the Silmarillion.

I have a tradition that every year I read all three it make my new year excellent but yeh I agree with Phoenix that Tolkiens writing style is sometimes difficult to follow

If you like good fantasy than let me reccomend you some of the best I have ever read:

Roger Zelazny : amber series.. Chronicles of Amber ..simply amazing....battle of chaos vs amber.
another of his books which is amazing is Lord of light. influneces od indian mythology plus technology. One of the veey best books i ever read.

than you have :
Michael Moork****s: Elric of Melnibone.. read all .these books are incredible .struggle between Chaos and Law.

And if you like dark fantasy than you cant miss Karl Edward Wagner and his Kane series.
Simply the best fantasy I ever read. if you can get hold og them as they are expensive now.
frank frazetta illustations from 70s illustrate Kane the best.there are 2 volumes of his works now on Kane but are expensive.

Ursuala K .Le guin . Eathsea trilogy.stay away from later novels as they are cheap cash ins and very very poor.

William King : Gotrek & Felix .very Dark ,humorous and amazingly written books,.Great Series as well.

Im here bro....just been busy and work and spent som much time here that burned out a bit...but now im back for good but will pace myslef better.
plus cant leave the front lines as still have some residue of faith in Bioware left.
read somwhere that all the voice actors have been recalled in...
so maybe ..maybe they can pull it off....

I mean I don't even have to scroll up the page 1 post to see that your discussing fantasy books to know that, I mean you must know something no other media channel I have seen before coming back to the forum knows, its just logical right? So any whats the news...?

All those books I have given you are fantasy but not childlidsh .
They are mature books amazingly written .most of the contemporary books s just rehash of old stuff or aimed at teenagers etc .and I lost interest in the genre now .old school stuff is amazing but fantasy has become aimed at youth market which is a shame .
I personally read science fiction now .more mature and more varied .
Fantasy has become terrible in writing ....
Funny enough on tv is much better ..!!! Who would have thought 10 to 15 years ago ...
