They did say some things though. Some things that they specifically said is that they were going to bring back customizable squad armour, that they were going to do away with the reused dungeons, and that the game map will be getting a lot bigger this time, rather than a lot smaller. They also recognized and apologized about the fact that in DA2 there were no decisions you could make that could have an effect on anything in the story (that it's story was completely on the rails), and I believe they blamed it on development time. Also, they said they were looking at Skyrim, to use the openess of that world to base their game on (lol, I love how they had to use an example of a legit proper game, a competitors game, to give people hope that their game won't be crap this time arond.)Major Swift wrote...

yep, i tried..... can't haha and wonderful my potential interest in DA3 just dropped
Anyways, those are all Bioware promises. And I think we all know what a Bioware promise is worth at this point. Mass Effect 3 fell pray to a lot of the flaws that were present in DA2, so I would say I'd have to be very hopeful for them to kick that habbit of slopiness. Without proper development time, I really doubt they can. Watch for the release date.
And I agree that not continuing with Hawke is a poor decision. Hawke was the one thing I liked from DA2 (though I guess the basic idea behind the game was cool, but it's excution was lol). I really don't want to have to get into the story of another character again. They strongly hinted that Hawke and the Warden might make cameos in the game, and that they would use DA3 to wrap up Hawke's unfinished story... But after ME3 I have doubts in their abilities in crafting effective cameos, and giving stories actual conclusions.
In case you haven't figured, I won't be buying DA3, lol
