I find it very hard to believe that something big isn't happening at BW right now. A huge game has being released (even flawed as it was), and there a lot of questions hanging. Their silence is becoming too loud to bear, if you excuse the wordplay.

If something is not happening behind the curtains, or if the company is not going through some major rearrangement, than I fear it's game over. Not just for ME, but for the company as a whole. It would only possibly mean that they really got completely out of touch with their customers (aka fans), and they are trying to let all this "die down" so they can come later as if nothing happened.

I'm trying not to believe that last possibility. It would really be too sad. Maybe we did provoke some worthy reaction. And not just an "explanation dlc".

You're inside the bubble. Pull yourself out. You sound like an entitled brat....

The public has already moved on and have sided with Bioware thanks to brilliant PR.

This supposed "silence" perceived by you only exists because you're way too invested and need some immediate perspective...

Step outside. Grab some sun.

$200 million does not lie. Checkmate.

You forget yourself, you didn't notice the pawn that stalemates you.

$200 million DOES lie. Money is perhaps the most lied about thing in the current day (shortly behind which country is shooting who). The community hasn't moved on because of good PR, it's just waiting for the judgement day that EAware have given themselves. Not even Morgan Freeman could pipe this down. Either way, it's about 3 weeks until summer, then it's round two.

P.S. I am not allowed to enter the sun unshrouded for at least 6 weeks or so, on the terms of moles that may go cancerous. Therefore the only way I could step outside is wearing a hoodie and a coat, considering that it's the end of spring, that's not a good look.

P.P.S I'm only giving your underbridger post a one because the spelling was pretty good, but thats it!

Earlier, folks were wondering why the Reapers kicked off the war by invading Earth. This has been bouncing around in my li'l noggin for a few hours now, and I've come up with a few thoughts on the topic.

First, Earth was not in fact the Reapers' first stop. The batarian worlds, particularly Kar'Shan, were the first to fall to the invaders. That's why you see Cannibals as the standard Reaper mook rather than regular husks; they're essentially Reaperized batarians, and the fall of the Hegemony provided them with lots of folks to "process" and make into expendable shock troops. Husks are actually a minority among low-level Reaper forces; there are only about one of them for every four cannibals, give or take a few percentage points, and are only seen in certain areas of the game IIRC.

Secondly, while I'll grant that a direct thrust into Council space aimed at taking the Citadel would at least seem logical from our point of view, there might be a good reason why they didn't do it. Perhaps there aren't as many Reapers as everyone fears, hence why they always try to hedge their bets whenever it's time to initiate the cycle (indoctrinated agents, divide-and-conquer strategy, etc.). If this is true, then it also follows that the Reapers would want to establish a foothold on the edge of the galaxy, the easiest and most logical place being, naturally, the worlds of the now-defunct Hegemony. That way, they can process as many victims as possible as well as laying the groundwork for further expansion and incursions into the Milky Way (the attack on Palaven, for example, which seems to have taken place at just about the same time as the invasion of Earth).

Which leads into the third bit of thought: the Reapers assaulted both the Systems Alliance and the Turian Empire at the same time. It is a long-accepted axiom among those who partake in grand strategy that you always attack your strongest opponents first, making it easier to conduct any mopping-up operations, consolidate new territory, and set up logistics. While the Reapers don't have the same type of logistical apparatus, they do in fact have one; after all, their processed foot soldiers aren't going to transport themselves to the front lines. It just so happened that the Reapers had enough forces to conduct both attacks simultaneously. If Earth had been able to put up as terrific a defense as the turians had around Palaven and its moons, then the Reapers could very well have been in a very vulnerable position indeed. In such a situation, with their forces bogged down on two fronts, the asari and salarians could theoretically come in and help to lift one of the two planetary sieges, freeing up the ships and soldiers on one front to come to the aid of the other.

So the Reapers' strategy isn't entirely a non-sequitur, at least from the perspective of this armchair general.

Hey Minty, I have a few quick questions. You say BioWare has won with brilliant PR and Retake has been effectively silenced for a good while now. You say ME3 made $200 million in sales. I would like to ask for citations of this "brilliant" PR, because right now all I can think of when someone mentions BioWare's arguments during the movement is "artistic integrity". Furthermore that sales number: was that world-wide? Include refunds? What about a comparison of the sales number to the development cost; that would show whether ME3 made a profit and by how much, provided the comparison also accounted for refunds.

Also if Retake has failed a while ago that means the people still here are the blinded fools who refuse to see the light, right? So what does that make the person who keeps telling them the same things over and over? Hint: .su ekil tsuj er'uoy

Mint hasn't taken into account that there was a huge portion spent on marketing for ME3, which takes a huge chunk out of the 200mil. On top of that, there was a decent amount of refunds for the game too (hence the reason Amazon started doing it, because so many people pushed for it).
So saying that they made 200mil, without taking into consideration the amount of costs they faced makes the argument invalid and pointless.

Keep in mind people, EAs marketing over the last 2 years is why they are laying off 500-1000 employees. So it was a rather large chunk of cash they spent.

Just a note, unless I'm mistaken it's the retailers that suffer with refunds, not EA. Everyone is also overly focussed on what this last quarter's financial statements are. Of course ME3 was going to generate them a huge profit, an effective PR campaign and the fact that it was the most anticipated game of the year is going to do that. The more interesting numbers are what has happened to games like SWTOR and the real indicators of how much of a backlash there has been will come with the release of the next big BioWare title. ME3 was never going to be a commerical failure, what has happened is that it and BioWare's overall reaction have caused damage to their brand and their customers faith in it. Also, I'm pleased to see that they've made a profit on ME3 because as a whole it is a good game and by making a profit we are more likely to get games like that in the future. The more important thing is whether BioWare has learned from the mistakes of ME3 and the fans reaction so that they won't repeat them in the next title. As far as EA is concerned it is generally accepted that as a business it is not doing as well as it should and their profits do not match expectations for a company of their size and this is not down to BioWare.

I know, it's the same deal here. Just pointing out how anyone could deliberately take certain contrary ideas to their extremes in order to elicit some secret thrill or whatever. To whit: like Minty claims, I'm an atheist, but I wouldn't use that angle in a civilized debate.

Not really. You're just making up context for it, lol. Well maybe not with the second one, that's legit.

I've never understood the appeal, especially when it is done in the place of interesting and intelligent discussion. You are quite right though, using religion in this context is merely inflammatory and wholly inappropriate.

Its done for its own sake. Their only objective is to get a rise out of people & lower them to that level.
Edit: The appeal lies in the ability to spark their desired reaction out of people.

Agree.

Anyway I've seen a few threads popping up suggesting maybe Hackett was Indoctrinated.  Fingers crossed all answers will be answered when the EC Dlc is released.

Ah, very good point Phoenix. You're right.
TOR is neither here not there at the moment, but Dragon Age and future Mass Effect series games are going to suffer from this.

http://social.biowar.../index/11264403 rather a long read but interesting.  Not sure if it's true but as I said I do hope everything will be sorted out in the EC Dlc.
