I think the point that is being made is that many good SP games are becoming a MP or MMO to please those who like to play online, and it is neglecting those who have been loyal fans since the first game on the franchise came out, and do not like to play online or do not have access to internet. There is a reason why I play ME and not Halo...
edit: and what Kyria said. I agree SP should remain SP and MP should remain MP

I can't answer for him, but I know
that's not what I'm saying. I"m saying that they should keep the MP
games MP and the SP games SP, they appeal to different crowds. I hate
MP games, I don't buy them I don't play them, so when you take a game
that I love, like ME and turn it into a MP game, you just killed the
game for me. I don't want to see the gaming industry go down either
path. I know there are people who like MP games, and that's great for
them, and I want to see them get all the MP games they want. However,
at the same time I want the SP games that I like. What I am seeing is
more and more MP games and fewer true SP games out there, so at this
moment the industry seems to be on the other side of that slippery
slope.
^This and this. Mass Effect was a single player rpg. There are tons of great multiplayer games out there, and less and less great single player rpgs because the developers want to attract those MP wallets.
So they neglect the single player, spend resources that would otherwise have gone to single player, and use it to tack on a MP. I'm all for people liking MP games, god speed. I prefer single player games. When developers take single player games and turn them into MP games, simply to cash in more, I have a problem with it.
They could have easily made KOTOR a single player RPG, and then did an MMO spinoff. Instead they canceled the rpg altogether to spend those resources on a bloated MMO that is dwindling in subscriptions every day.
They easily could have used the resources spent on MP for ME3's single player, who knows, with those funds we could have seen female species. Weekes said it was due to resources that it didn't get done. We could have seen Tali's face rendered, we could have seen more than just eavesdropping delivery quests. Who knows, the fact is MP took away resources that could have otherwise gone to ME3's story.
