Guild Wars 2 seems like an MMO I would consider supporting. The biggest thing I hate about MMOs though, is the fact that you need to rely on groups for a lot of content. For the most part, I hate people, and I would rather not have to depend on someone else for completing a task.

If they made group activity optional, or made easier versions of those instances for solo, I would be more inclined to play them.

If the beta is anything to go by they've changed it so that you don't need to rely on groups. You travel through the world and "events" will take place that you can take part in along with anyone else running around but you can also ignore it and just continue the SP bits.

Ahh kinda like Rift?  Where you can pretty much solo everything, but then you have events that take place and public groups that form up as people come through to the event?

Well in the events you never become a "group" as such you all work together as individuals if that makes sense. Haven't played Rift so I don't know if that's what you meant.

I've played the beta and from what I've seen it's holding true to the original GW but with improvements. We'll see when it's properly released I guess.

The Beta was fun and I like the idea ur not forced into groups if u don't want to but I tried The Area Events and they are fun to do plus they did for me at least ask for feedback on almost everything.  I just hope they do actually take into account the feedback they get.

I'm hoping there is another beta weekend at the end of May as they want to do a few before it's eventually released.

I'm really looking forward to the next one and seeing what feedback has been implemented. I found it a much smoother experience rather than standing in a public area waiting to get the right group together to go and take on a mission. It was so funny watching a horde of people running through a location to wipe out the enemy. Image IPB

I know Laterali. I do the same thing as you do. I was just posting that so other people can see how currupt they still are. The one green planet your talking about is Eletania with the consorts sphere or Xawin with the colony of Pijaks.

In Rift when you enter an event area, a pop up gives you the option to join the public group or not.  Basically everyone can work together, but if you're solo you don't get as much loot when it's done.  So no you don't automatically end up in a group,  you have the option of it though and that automatically pops up.

Sounds to me like you enjoy the RPG part, not the MMO part. Nothing wrong with that, but the RPG part of an MMORPG is always going to be flawed next to a plain old RPG.

Shame that the west has all but abandoned making quality RPGs. Unless you like the formula that Elder Scrolls uses, and I don't. And the east just cranks out grindfest after grindfest, or games that think they are movies and feel that the less input the player has, the better.

That's basically it. I love RPGs, don't have much interest in anything else, and unfortunately mmos are one of the last refuges to find at least a hint of rpg-ness.

That's why when they added MP to ME3, I cringed. That's why I was heart broken when I heard in place of KOTOR 3 they were making TOR.

I can only replay DAO and ME1 and Drakensang so many times before I just die of boredom. MMOs seem to be the only place I can find some semblance of a story these days, but I hate subscription fees, and I hate required groups.

I like Elder Scrolls, more because it's like a choose your own adventure book more than a real rpg. I like creating a guy, and exploring and breaking open heads till I get blue in the face. But the story is non existent in Skyrim. There's no memorable characters, and the story and characters is what I desire most out of games. Which is why DAO and ME series are so important to me.

i just signed up for Rift this week, I saw you could play up to lvl 20 or so for free so I gave it a shot. I haven't had much time to play it but it seemed decent enough. I have no idea what the story is about, and what defiants and, what is it, guardians? are supposed to be, but as I said I haven't had much time to invest into it.

Ah I see. You don't even get that option, you just join in if you want or don't. A circle is drawn on the world map and as long as you stay within that circle up until the point the event ends you are awarded loot / exp based on how quickly the event was completely (i.e. gold, silver, bronze)

I got so bored of Rift so fast, I loved it during beta and just post launch, a few months later the magic was gone...I'm hoping GW2 will keep my attention, Phoenix is a bonus that comes with GW2!

Yeah same here, I was in beta, then at launch, had a pretty smooth launch too, which was nice.  Then it got blah.  Then I got sick of WoW and was waiting for TOR so I went back and played for a while.

I played WoW for 5 years, have some great memories and made some great friends!  I switched to TOR, but since, you know...even that has gone stale, as you may have noticed with my lack of being in game. :P

I can't even bring myself to login to WoW anymore, I mean it even surpasses burnt out...and it's a shame because there are still people there that I love, so much history.../sigh

Well since I haven't logged on in a week, no I wouldn't probably notice.  I have the same thing, I love all my old guild mates in WoW but I'll be danged if I can make myself log into it.

I quit WOW 2 yrs ago and sadly I've not been tempted back.  Just didn't like the direction Blizzard were going but I do miss the Guild Nights we had whether it be raid runs or even naked gnome races.
