I haven't bothered with the third CoD:MW installment. I liked the second one for the first couple of run-throughs but in hindsight the story is rather loopy; watching a playthrough of MW3 confirmed the increasingly tight spiral of incredulity in that franchise...I mean, all those half-sunken, way out-of-scale warships in New York Harbor? Please.
Seems to be a treand with AAA titles; they go for "shock'n'awe" in the first level(s) and don't stop to pace themselves.

Some RPG elements yeah. But it's about as superficial as an RPG could possibly be.Nharia1 wrote...

It wouldn't suprise me if ME turned into a FPS MMO.
I personally wouldn't mind a Mass Effect FPS provided that it: a). didn't contradict any possible events of the ME RPGs or
That said, I don't think ME3's RPG mechanics were really superficial. A bit dumbed-down for the shooter tards, yes, but not superficial.
Edit: Just realized you said MMO. If that happened, it'd be torches and pitchforks time. <_<

The basic RPG elements with respects to skill point distribution and weapon customization is far improved from it's near nonexistense in ME2 (which I appreciate). But with respect to everything else, it so is not. At least not as a modern Western RPG. That's why I called it superficial.Goodwood wrote...

So basically it boils down to one about the First Contact War, which would actually be kind of awesome depending on the approach taken.

As for making it an FPS, it already kind of is. You're always locked into the over the shoulder, weapons out, all guns blazing mode when on a mission. You can't even holster your weapon, lol. As a purely third person shooter Resident Evil doesn't even doesn't force that.
If you mean as a straight shooter where they remove choice and control over your story... well that's what ME3 pretty much was.
And please no MMO, lol. I won't be playing ME4 regardless, but just no.

Out of curiosity, why is it so important to be able to holster your weapon? I've seen a lot of people mention it and I was surprised by how much it bothered people. I mean I noticed but it wasn't a sticking point. Is it because of viewpoint / view focus issues? Or is it more story-related (the fact that you're carrying a gun in non-combat areas)?

Didn't bother me at all either. I'm a STALKER, putting guns away in a potentially dangerous area is just stupid.

Both for me. It locked me to one camera view only, and I don't precisely enjoy running around allied camps with my gun out. It also is a tell-tale sign of laziness, since holster/unholster isn't precisely time-consuming to program.evisneffo wrote...

Primarily it is once again issue of lack of choice. If I want to holster my weapon and run around cloaked killing things only with heavy melee and powers, I should damn well be granted the possibility to do so, especially since the feature was in the previous games.

They've already explained that it was a hardware limitation; specifically a memory/RAM limitation. The Xbox and PS3 only have 512MB of RAM, they have to pinch every single resource to the limit just to get games to run on those platforms.
By comparison, to be able to play ME3 at the same settings and resolution as the consoles do on a PC, you need a minimum of 3GB of RAM (or 3072MB). Two for the system and one for the graphics card.
It's a programming miracle ME3 runs on consoles.

It's both. I hate being permanently locked into a single point of view when it's not needed. And I don't like having my gun out in non-combat situations either. I'm used to drawing as soon as the conflict starts.evisneffo wrote...

I could see why this wouldn't bother someone, but it still goes a way in cementing the game's status as a third person shooter regardless.
edit: To take what Atrocity said, it's that lack of choice.
