So we can't get the ending we want after all?

You get two different war materials. Destroyed you get the reaper heart, saved you get the brain. I'm not entirely sure about the difference.

How many years will it take for Galactic Civilization to reach the level it was before the Reapers?
I see the advancement in technology to do so, the search for new resources, attempts at harnessin or recreatin the Reapers. Species survivin, workin together, and/or tryin to establish dominance. The Galaxy is waitin to be rediscovered.
I would be tempted to be with you and swallow these endings IF there was some kind of official announcement of another Mass Effect game, some hint that I could ctrl+z and try to make things work out better.
As it stands there is no such thing and no such hope. This is, for all intents, the end of the story.
It feels like I'm being asked to choose a life in 1984, Animal Farm, and Burmese Days. Why would I even bother?
If you would try to understand the plot rather than your major love for the characters, you would then realize that the ending is very good.
"If only you understood, then you'd agree with me!" -- the last resort of people with no actual agrument to back up their assertions.
The ending is a choice between bags of crap, nothing more. It's contrived and cliched.

lol So dramatic, ill just repeat what Hiddenking wrote: 'You see a wasteland, and I see possibilities."
All you care about is how bad things are for the galaxy but we chose to see how many amazing things happened, i guess its just a matter of worldview(and because we dont care about our virtual waifus)
Or rather, you don't have anything at all, so you have to keep falling back on your childish little "waifu" nonsense.
The end of ME3 is no better for Sheps that didn't romance ANYONE (and half my Sheps fall into that catagory).

Wel. That's intersting. When you say "reaper heart/brain" are you talking about the reaper human at the end of ME2? That thing would be a beast on the battlefield.

That was and is the responsibility BW acquired - however the ending/s destroyed - totally - our connection to this incredible adventure in our medium in our time. We deserve the closure fitting to each of our personal experience with these characters - nothing less will now save this series!

Well, MP has the unguided rocket, which I always refer to as the real life LAW (Light Anti-tank Weapon) which can take a Atlas down in one hit (it can take down two as a cloaked infiltrator if the two Atlas mechs are close enough or right behind each other) and in one of the trailers I saw Shep hold some laser targetting device fora orbital strike it looked like. Someone mentioned the Cain. I'm assuming they're available but are perhaps mission specific.

I honestly don't get all of the angst and whining over the endings.
I made this post near the start of the thread and it's still just as valid now.Did you really expect that Shepard and crew would be able to fight off the Reapers without consequences for themselves? As if it would resolve in a neat little package at the end like a fairy tale, or where the entire crew holds hands and sings "kumbaya"?
At the end of the day, BioWare best know how to blow us away and emotionally engage us with their rock solid, masterfully written, majestic stories. I'm sure while everyone likes to complain, do you really want a Mass Effect 3 to have a bland, lifeless ending?
Where's the drama in that?
Personally, I think it's a great ending, a completely logical conclusion based on the plot progression (that we've seen so far) and it doesn't feel artificial or forced at all. Most of you are just angry because you won't be able to live happily evar after with your LIs.
Well guess what, Mass Effect is not about a choose-your-own-romance-adventure sexual wish fulfillment mini-game, with appalling elements like shallow fanservice and over sexualization. It's a gritty, mature, adult story which will surely advance the medium in ways we can't even imagine.
And even if you still have unwarranted and entitled gripes over the endings, Mass Effect is a ROLEPLAYING GAME!
Just roleplay that everyone was able to survive and live happily ever after or something. Or that the colony thrives and everyone gets along without any hardship. Or that some other technology is invented which allows them to leave.
You people are too used to games like CoD and other junk that the mainstream industry puts out. Use your imaginations!
After all, isn't that the point of Mass Effect?
BioWare knows this, and they crafted an entire arc spanning three epic games around that concept. If you're too unimaginative to realise that, and ungrateful enough to spit in their faces just because you won't have a white wedding with waifus in glorious HD, then really.... you're just too used to games like Gears of War, which Mass Effect is nothing like (despite what the trolls say).
And we see that you have no argument at all, given your continuous spew of insults.

There is nothing bad about it, but these people decide to hate on this game, compare it to DA2 (ugh), and give all sort of fallacies to justify why the game sucks, all because they love the normandy crew.
Imo its ok to be sad about the lost of the normandy, i wont mind if bioware changed just that. But overall the endings are brillant. Be angry that you cant finish your romance the best way possible but dont hate on the entire game for it...
BTW i was really angry when i first heard of it cause my LI (Steve) will always stay at the normandy, i would love if bioware saved him but the rest of the game is pretty awsome
There's nothing brilliant about suddenly making the Reapers into spacegods and introducing a magic space McGuffin as the only way to stop them, and giving the player a "choice" between three deeply pyrrhic "victories".

Because of course no generation or people was ever able to benefit from the work of others without becoming their "slaves" in real history. [/sarcasm]
Slightly different, isn't it? Sovereign himself says in ME1 that because of the relays and the Citadel etc, all advanced species (for million of years) have evolved along the paths that the Reapers wanted, and have therefore had their eventual fates dictated entirely by the reapers. So, regardless of all the other times in history when technology was universally beneficial without enslaving anyone, in this particular instance whole civilisations have unknowingly been slaves to, or almost completely reliant upon reaper tech (in terms of being part of the galactic community, anyway). To their cost, as it turns out.
It's understandable, of course it is - why would anyone bother potentially spending centuries finding their own methods of speeding across the galaxy when there's a ready-made, easy way right in front of them? Perfectly understandable, and exactly what the Reapers wanted and knew would happen.
The 'destroy' ending means it will be more difficult (not impossible), and will take longer for humanity and other species to get back to where they were - but they will do so on their own terms and probably be stronger for it in the long run. Self-reliance breeds progress and ingenuity.
I do like that one of themes throughout ME has been whether you take the easy route (even if it comes back to bite you in the bum - Saren willingly enslaving himself to Sovereign instead of fighting, the Council's dismissal of the Reaper threat, keeping the Collector Base, the heretic Geth), or whether you forgo what seems to be the easier path for the sake of self-determination.
Not sayin' that I wouldn't love an ending where Shep and whoever ride off into the sunset (cos dayum, I would) but, I have to admit that I'm liking these endings. I feel like a terrible person now. Sorry thread.
1) With the Reapers gone, it's all moot. There's no threat. There's no plan to "fall in line with." There's no trap.
2) Did trains somehow stop the invention of the automobile and the airplane? No. Why would the Relays stop development of alternatives?
1) Nor is there any motivation for independent progress. If aliens had visited earth before the discovery of fire, and given humanity easily available sources of heat and light (not the knowledge to make it/discover it for ourselves, mind you, just the end product), how long do you think it would have taken man to discover fire for themselves? And how many of man's greatest accomplishments have come about because of that one simple discovery? Yeah, we would have done it eventually, I'm sure, but how centuries or millennia would we have been set back? Necessity is the mother of invention.
2) Can trains travel through the air? No. People wanted to cross between landmasses at speed, so a plane was invented. Can people travel independently, privately, under their own steam and according to their own schedule on a train? No, thus the car was invented. Mass Relays are different - they conveniently and perfectly provide for all of humanity's space exploration needs, what other alternative is necessary or desirable? Humanity stagnated because of the availability and convenience of reaper tech, in my opinion.
