I don't know why I even keep trying to explain this, but it wasn't OUT OF THE BLUE, this had been built up throughout the series if you just paid attention.

Also, you can't traverse the galaxy in 27 years.

It'll take thousands to travel.

Not saying you're wrong, as I have no clue myself, but wasn't there a conversation with a character in ME 1 that mentions it'd take between 20 - 30 years to travel the galaxy, with current FTL?

At least that is what I've seen people say on the forums anyway.

The diameter of our galaxy is approximately 100,000 light-years. According to the FTL speed in Mass Effect, it would take a little over 8,000 years to travel across the milky way.

Are you sure you don't mean 8000 days?

12 light years per day.

100000 light years divided by 12 = 8334 days.

8334 days divided by 365.25 days = 22.82 years.

It's sufficient hope for the future though

It is, i never argued otherwise.

It's just not going to be nearly as simple as everyone keeps trying to make out.

They determine the path of technology we will take so as to avoid taking other paths that might lie outside the Reapers focus for us and thus allow us possibly escape their prison by means of our own travel.

Each race, despite being alien, uses the same technology, this is the trap.

---

Without your airplanes, your cars, and your subways, you will lose the ability to rapidly transit, and you will need to find a new way, but with them, you stop looking for methods, and only seek to advance that which you already have.

You need a reason to search outside the box, usually War is this reason.

If you're that ignorant of the history of technological advancedment, no wonder you take The Singularity seriously.

The horse didn't stop the invention of the train, the train didn't stop the invention of the car, and the car didn't stop the invention of the airplane.

The oar didn't stop the invention of the sail, and the sail didn't stop people from mounting steam engines in ships, and the steam engine didn't stop the mounting of diesels and turbines...

The candle didn't stop the invention of the light bulb.

The telegraph didn't stop the invention of the telephone or the wireless radio.

Etc.

In fact, existing technologies help lead to new technologies over time.

Apparently if you import a game and get 4000 to 5000 war assets you get a better ending so I'm going to try that. If not I'll burn my Mass Effect 3 copy after I finish it.

No. If you import a game, get 5000+ score, beat the game, start over, beat it again you finally get a different ending. That's what i've heard.

http://s1256.photobu...8/cleanslate84/

Btw, listening to 10000 days is just too appropriate right now.

Don't try to argue with the people who propagate this type of stuff. Their idea is that they know everything for the better and need to enlighten the rest of us.

Sad times.

That's highly ironic.

I do get a chuckle at watching people now try to claim "I knew the reapers all along were not bad guys or just misunderstood." It reminds me of people running for political office who say "Had I been in office at the time I never would have voted for X" when it turns out much later that X was unpopular or a bad idea.

I think you misunderstand.

People universally accepted that the Reapers had a purpose that was unknown throughout 1 and 2. A reason for what they were doing. We just didn't know it yet.

Providing an answer to that makes them appear different. A very often used plot device in movies.

I always knew the answer to their motive -- they were arrogant, self-absorbed megalomaniacs convinced of their own rightness.

And they were always wrong, and always will be wrong.

I'd really forget about the general bad writing in ME3, the plotholes and the reapers' motivation if there was at least one decent ending - doesn't need to be an absolute happy ending but something that makes you think you won at least something.
Let the Normandy crash on earth with its survivors and let Shepard be reunited with his crew. I think this would be accepted and make a much better ending than the other ones.

Pretty much this. I am not expecting oh everything is clean and shiny and good, even if you do it perfect. I expect Earth to be a burned out ruined. I just want to see my crew together, to be with my LI, with the series ending on a sunrise over the ruined husk of the world, with reaper corpses burning around me. That'd be grim sure, but it would be satisfying. You wouldn't have anyone say it is all roses and happyness, but at least it is not a punch in the gut like the current ones.

This. Compare ME3's ending with ME1's or even ME2's. In those endings there was a sense of triumph, of overcoming incredible odds and coming out on top. Shepard ended those games surrounded by his/her friends and colleagues. It was hopeful. We don't need an ending where it's all sweet and no bitter, but this is the final act of Shepard's story. Don't end with two characters we don't know or care about. That isn't satisfying in the least.

i actually praise Bioware they had the guts to do something more than just fan service.

What?! Really?
Oh I had to laugh so hard.

-Sexyfied Ashley.
-EDI in a sexy robot-body.
-Closerange-fighting.

BioWare did everything for fanservice, at least for that who cared about the action-part, that EA likes to sell so much.

The thing is: I wouldn't care about this stuff. I wouldn't care about this ridiculous close-range-insta-kill-mechanic.
All I want is an Ending that stands up to the other two games.
Not the ending, but one.

You could throw over galactic politics in ME1, basically deciding how humanity is entering the galactic society.
You could kill everyone, including Shepard at the end of ME2.
But if you did some things, you could end up with an end that made you think: Awesome! I gotta play that again, just to see
ME1:
The Citadel-Council honoring you or humans beginning rise in power.
ME2:
Kill whoever you want and escape impossible odds with everyone you hold
dear. The remaining crew nods towards you in respect you've earned
throughout the game.

Personally I was more personally attached to the coffins in the ending of ME2, than to earth itself in ME3.

About what's been leaked so far, we get:
-Everyone you hold dear is either dead or plays ME-Lost-Edition on some
jungle-world. Heck, maybe it's even Virmire and the nuclear fallout
there kills them straight ahead.
There are two kinds of DNA, species based on one of it will die.
The ones laying around the beam on earth are either dead, or the husks and reapers there have a lot of time to play with them.
-The AI/VI/whatever, controlling the reapers, shows itself as a transparent holo-kid and offers you what you can do to it, even lifting the ramp for you.
"My solution doesn't work anymore..." oh yeah. The reapers, who decided(creative
AI's) to build a base in the heart of the galaxy between black holes as
a research- and reproduction-base, the reapers, who can indoctrinate
you or transform you in some space-zombie, say it doesn't work anymore
because someone entered their control-central.
Oh yes: We build our
control-central where we lure the governments of the races we will
destroy(In some cases, this could really be the most capable beings of
these races), and there is no defence-mechanism in a perimeter that big.

-The Deus Ex Machina: I'm not against them at all, but because of the crucible you can suddenly use the reaper-guardian to:
Destroy the reapers and every synthetic.
Transform yourself into the new control-program for the reapers.
Fuse organics and synthetics.
If the protheans were advanced enough to create a three-button-win-device and create mini-relays, why did they lose the war?!
Or if the reaper-race was advanced enough to create AI's that can be
creative, control organic minds(however these minds may be functioning)
even more than 37million years ago, why didn't they came up with the
fuse-idea?

Also, the "omg only one ending!!" doesn't work here. both previous games also had only ONe ending in general:

ME1: Shepard kills Saren/Sovereign, save the Citadel

ME2: Shepard kill the Collectors

You are forgetting the actual choices...
ME1: Save council OR let council die
ME2: Destroy Collector base OR save Collector base

I think they are choices... If Shepard didn't stop Saren/Sovereign there wouldn't be ME2, if Shepard didn't stop the collectors there would be a human reaper already in the Milky way.

Far be it from me to tell you what to do with your time, but err... don't you have the ability to be playing the game right now, rather than posting in a thread where everyone (for the most part) 'thinks' they know how everything goes? ;)

I'd certainly be playing anyway, but I unfortunately need to wait until Thursday/Friday with being in the UK!

But the point is that, in Mass Effect, they DON'T. The asari found the Citadel over 2000 years ago. They haven't improved on any of the technology they found there, and were only able to understand it because of the legacy of the Protheans, who spent literally thousands upon thousands of years studying the Citadel and relay technology for relatively little gain.
This is because of the 'magic' effect of highly-advanced technologies. If you give a hyper-advanced piece of tech to a sufficiently less-advanced species, it seems like magic. They can't hope to ever understand it without a HUGE amount of time and work, and so they can't improve on it. Thus, they stagnate.

Unfortunately no. Image IPB
I have registered my pre-load (PC), but Origin still checks the date and like you, I'm in Europe. Image IPB
Still, there are ways of unlocking "early" (it worked for BF3 by simulating we lived in Korea, the earliest date Image IPB). If not, the soundtrack is very good. Image IPB

Unlucky. :( I'll probably be able to play Thursday, if the PS3 version comes in the post then. Ordered from shopto and they're shipping Wednesday I think. Normally takes one day, with being first class. Will probably get the PC version at a later time, as I guess Zavvi may not get it to me for release (never pre-oredered with them before, but it's a good price. And I'm daft, i know, getting two versions but friends are on the PC. Yet I prefer a console controller. Do have the entire trilogy on the PC though, so that's something, or will have anyway...)
