So we can't get the ending we want after all?

Yeah, Song of Ice and Fire is actually a different kind of breed and not really fit for comparison with ME3's bollocks ending.
Well, one is a book series.
One is an action RPG. So yeah, really no comparison.

I hear you. Not everyone feels the same way, but I definitely do. I don't need everything to barf rainbows, but I in my sci fi and fantasy I like there to be some sense of victory. Screwing over my squadmates erases that feeling.KMYash wrote...

Sure it does. It's in fashion in video games and television to be "edgy" and "bittersweet" these days. Look at Game of Thrones and how everyone faps over that. Look at BSG, and how people went absolutely nuts over how "realistic" it was (even after the crappy ending it had, it's a well regarded show). I wouldn't be surprised if BioWare wanted a piece of that action and decided to veer toward it.
I never got the desire for 'realistic' ending for science fiction. I mean I'm reading/watching/playing it for something fantastic to happen. I'm not looking for something that is possible just with a space background to be slapped with the title science fiction. And I'm obviously not talking about the reapers her but the idea that some people that the ONLY ending possible should be Shep's death.

Having Shepard and crew survive, and the galaxy "saved" would not be unrealistic. There would still be lots of death. You can even kill off characters. If Shepard saved everyone and reverted those changed into husks, that would be over the top silly.
Stop using "realism" as a complaint or reason for anything. Positive endings for the heroes are not unrealistic. Being realistic does not mean being grim.

Ugh.
This is why I alternate between hating and loving the ending. It's absurd, contrived, and stupid.
But it is so hilarious how Bioware just screws everyone over.

Also, all of this talk of "realism" in fiction is annoying. No one is using it properly. You can have realism without having "dark endings". A "Disney" ending does not shatter immersion. Realism != dark.

Exactly how I see it.
Shepard was resurrected. He/She was dead, completely. Their lifeless, frozen corpse exposed to the vaccum of space.
And they were brought back to life, by science and a lot of money. The series sent a precedent. Death is not always the end and suicide missions can be successful. It's completely realistic, in the Mass Effect universe to survive and overcome the impossible.
Anderson dying? Throw some medi-gel on it.

Or, the "good ending" DLC idea people are going on about will come to be. If bioware is dumb enough to pull this kind of an ending off, maybe they are as greedy as people say, and the idea of milking happy ending DLC will apeal to them. *shrug* One can hope. I'm a person who wants a happy ending in my escaptism fantasy. And i'd prolly pay for it. I won't lie.
But that's all speculation at this point. I'm still doubtful ALL the games outcomes are like this.

DLC on the search for Normandy, it writes itself, but its pretty crappy to key the ending of the main game to dlc.
