Ah, I was wondering if you'd heard about all this yet, Sky. Interesting analysis!
Well the rest of the cast gets their 'rebuilding on Earth' (except not) kinda finish, at least. Shep doesn't is all. It's kinda like how Adama decided to live in peace on the other side of the planet, except Shep at least goes down in more tangible flames. Except if he/she lives in which case... um... party time with Anderson, I guess. o_o;
I've known about the endings for a while, but I didn't realize the bit about the Normandy until just recently. I thought the endings were classy until I figured out we've been pigeonholed into being separated from the ship no matter what.
So, Shep isn't like, alone alone in the living ending, right? He/she is just separated from the rest of the crew forever? Shep will still have people around him/her? If that's the case, I can live with it except for one of my broSheps...he's only ever known loss his entire life (Colonist/Sole Survivor), and I know he wouldn't do any other option besides Destroy...but that would leave him separated from the only family he's known since Mindoir, and would force him to deal with agonizing loss under even bleaker circumstances. He'd put a bullet in his head, to be perfectly honest.
I think my biggest problem is...THEY CRASHED MY BABY. MY POOR, POOR BABY...That, and we've been pigeonholed. That's just flat out annoying.
I didn't know about the endings until last night, but the general consensus from all the spoiler group folks is that the bit about the Normandy wasn't in the leaked script. But the endings themselves were incomplete as of the time of the leaks so we knew there'd be more, and, well, it looks like there it is.
Shep will still have some people around him/her in the survival ending. It's all kind of alluded-to according to Xoisite but you need Anderson alive for starters, and it seems like Anderson has saved him. Earth, cut off from the rest of the galaxy just as everywhere else is, will still be a home for Shep.
I think one thing you might not be aware of judging by this post of yours, though, is that if Xoisite and the SomethingAwful play-tester are right (actually the SA guy says he wasn't sure and that he hasn't seen the endings in a long time now so he just tells people to trust whatever other people who have seen the endings claim) then the Relays are destroyed no matter which ending is chosen.
Which, yes, contradicts the leaks so a lot of people are somewhat skeptical on that front, but Xoisite has claimed to have seen all three endings now and he doesn't see how it's left open for interpretation, he says it's just a differently-colored beam depending on the decision you make.
