All the end needed was the Normandy taking out a reaper but getting shot down to earth and Shepard ending up on earth after the citadel explosion. Then a cut scene on earth with celebrations in the background and Shepard + LI holding hands looking outside accompanied by his friends outside at a bright new day. Finally a 20 minute epilogue rolls giving info about what happens to everyone important in the Mass Effect Galaxy.

Seriously its NOT HARD to to please the fans. That ending and epilogue alone would have pleased 90% of people on this thread.

You just made an entire creative team look foolish in 60 seconds or less.

To be fair, that cinematic with the Normandy happens in EVERY ending, and it doesn't mean his death. If you had enough assets and got the best ending for the route you chose at the end, he and possibly others climb out of the ship after it crashes.

Be calm!

I can't believe that I'm going to most likely stoop to fanfiction in order to get a satisfying ending. How much tentacle alien porn I have to swim through in order to find the proper ending that makes sense to me.

No. Really.

I'm of two minds about this: one part says BioWare knows that these aren't the only endings and so they don't feel compelled to do anything, the other part says BioWare would rather keep the rage contained here instead of distributed across the internet like tiny rage seeds.

Except the news has spread to 4chan and youtube.

No such thing as too much tentacle alien porn.

I think people need to understand the difference between bad endings and sad endings. Yes the endings are sad but the fact that they have caused such an emotional responce in you means bioware has seceded in creating a powerfull ending.

Besides unless you cause earth to be tosted, it only takes 5 min of fanfiction to make a happer ending, it's what i did.

I get the concept of sad endings, hell I even appreciate them like in Red Dead Redemption, Bioshock 1, and Metal Gear Solid 4. Those endings were satisfying because it brought closure to the story in a way that made sense and didn't leave room for much doubt.

These endings on the other hand aren't satisfying, especially if you played ME1 & 2. We were led to believe that our choices and decisions would have a significant impact in the conclusion of our story. They don't. While we were promised we each could have our own unique story that would have a unique outcome we're forced to choose from the same 3 endings regardless of what we had done previously.

I'd add the ending to Bioshock 2 while you're at it. Even the best ending was sad, but oh so satisfying. Same with Braid. It was a sad ending, and then you realized what the whole game was about, and then it made sense. Same with Dear Esther recently, which is about as far from a happy game as it can get, and yet it was a moving experience. Half-Life 2 Episode 2? Sad ending, but a cliffhanger (where's my episode 3, Valve) . I didn't even MIND the original ending to FO3 even if it killed my character, because it was proper. Oh and, you could always send that BoS chick in there (and she'd hate you for it) if you didn't feel like being a hero, you know? I liked the sad endings in Heavy Rain too (although I did prefer the happier one). Castlevania: Lords of Shadow had a great AND sad ending as well. And what about Planescape: Torment ???

I don't care that an ending is SAD , if it WORKS. But after years of being promised control and choice, the realization that NOTHING MATTERED in the end is even worse than a sad ending. Would I pick a SAD ending in ME3? Sure. But I'd like to try the other ones as well --- IF THEY EXISTED!

All of this, on top of the ME3 writing team basically ripping apart what made the franchise, and its main threat, so great in the first place.

There's nothing satisfactory about this.

Nothing.

So many bad decisions.

So much disappointment.

True, but if the intention was to contain the rage it managed to work right up until a few days before launch. Which, if that was their plan, worked well enough.

There's nothing for them to say until the game is released and they believe enough people have gotten to the endings/there is a big enough response regarding the endings.

... I think it's gonna get alot worse when the game gets released and they find out about the endings.

Most commonly asked questions for ME3 players one week later:

"How do I get the good ending? What did I do wrong? Could someone tell me what I need to do?"

Sadly no that'll be the most commonly asked question for ME1&2 players. The most commonly asked question for ME3 players (who I have no doubt will be shooter fans) is "How do I skip through all these cutscenes?"

That's part of the problem, you have a great journey and then a crap ending. While Bioware was quoted "It's about the journey, not the destination." it leaves alot of the ME1&2 players wondering why do we have to sacrifice one for the other? Since we are used to the idea of having both.

Thats the most...no...thats the only tragic aspect that will come out of this game...because these endings aren't tragic....they just flat out suck...

Right if they survive Joker and the normandy crew get stranded to starve the death. Also he ends up with sexbot EDI...I still can't believe they did that...

It's just all so OOC. I keep telling myself I'm just an idiot and its not but theres so much in ME 2 that completly goes agaisnt what they did there. EDI and Joker are buddies...not...

Alright I'll admit I'm bias but damn, when I would of preferred a "Leaf on the Wind" (from Serenity) ending for Joker...the writing team got's problems

You'll still have a sea of self-inserts to swim through there.

One I ran across had a truly brilliant ending to the series. Up until a week ago, I honestly couldn't see ME3 ending any other way - it incorporated elements from both ME1 and 2, including Haestrom. "Awakening" it was called. You'll like it, if you're OK with the religious undertones and Talimancer angle. (Edit: chapter 46 is where the "final battle" starts.)

Which is wrong, I mean Shepard's story has been 5 years in the making, we should all be eagerly awaiting the release not wondering why the endings are so terrible.

Video games are just entertainment, man.  It's obvious a massive amount of effort went into this production, and it's going to be very, very entertaining.  I'm not satisfied with what I've heard about the endings either, but they're really not that bad, and I'm withholding judgment until I actually play through it.

About the auto-dialogue thing, there's a lot of it.  But that's in addition to the regular conversation with the dialogue wheel.  The Zaeed/Kasumi style dialogue is also very well done and squad banter is great.  There seems to be a lot more dialogue in general compared to the first two games.

It's definitely no Dragon Age 2.  I really think the anger on these forums is way over the top.

QFT, friend.

Hell, add Red Dead Redemption there. Glorious end for John. Right up until the last bullet, Rockstar gave us control.

Granted, there was only one way for that game and that shootout to end, but RDR was never marketed as a game about choice. From the start you knew RDR was John's story, not your story.

If Rockstar said we could build our gang, develop our resources, spread our influence to make or ruin New Austin -- and then gave us the fatal shootout regardless of everything else we did or tried to do, then I would have been furious. But they didn't. RDR had no illusion of choice, you were figuratively and literally railroaded from one plot point to the next, and so when the hero loses everything in the end it's painful -- it's bitter -- it makes you hurt -- but it's acceptable because at no point did you believe you could effect its outcome.

Then you have Mass Effect that does the exact opposite: save the whole of the Rachni or make them extinct, undo the genophage or destroy tainted research, reporgram an army of geth or destroy them, give Cerberus a door into the Reaper's mind or shut that door completey. Each of those is a galaxy shifting decision; a massive choice with huge implications that should create violently different outcomes -- and yet all those choices essentially culminate in adding zeroes to a Galactic Readiness figure that itself has little effect on the ultimate outcome. And then there is only one ultimate outcome.

This is a pretty big disappointment. My only consolation is that Halo 4 is coming with its requisite bullet porn and the new Assassin's Creed looks interesting.
