No they added the kid so his quick and relatively painless death could completely traumatize Shepard.
Seriously, halfway through the game s/he starts having PTSD dreams about not saving the kid..
And then the telepathi AI that is Citadel uses the kids form to manipulate Shepard...

Hmm... didn't know that part. The whole dreams about not saving the kid thing... Doesn't change anything though...

I didn't know that part either. God dang it my Shepard knows that countless kids died due to Reapers and he won't be worried about it. NO My Shepard is going to be worried about never getting to hash his feeling for Samara out and deal with the near kiss they shared in ME2, My Shep wants to know where he stands with Samara because the Reapers may kill them both and they may never get a chance to be open with each other on how they feel.

My Shep is going to be more worried about that dang Bartain Balek runnin around out there still and wants him to pay for the Bring Down the Sky events.

My Shepard would be more worried about a sh!tton more personal relationships and stuff that is unfinished than some dumb kid who told Shepard "You can't help me" and then the kid ran off and got killed.
That kid's not the only kid who got killed by the Reapers on Earth I garente that.
My Shepard lost his family on Mindoir to Batarian Slavers he don't have time to worry about the dumb earth kid he saw die, But speaking of Mindoir My Shepard would want to find out how Talitha is doing from "I remember Me' in ME1 before the reapers end things/

All my 8 shepard's are build for certain way but if I were to beat the game once their will be no big difference. Also all the auto dialouge and kid and.........wow and can't believe how much crap is in the game. WHY BIOWARE?!?!

Oh and your are very welcome. Samara was in battle between Miri for who I was gonna choose for my LI but I guess I have to write some fanfiction to sort out this mess.

I've got a pretty defined Shep as well. **** with a heart of gold. Colonist and sole survivor. Definitely not a girl who would be woken up at night because of some random kid who died back on Earth.

I'm right there with all of you. My Shepard was a spacer/ war hero. He knows death comes with the job.  He saw people die when he "held the line"! But having PTSD over a nameless kid, I'll quote Gearseffect "WTF!!"

I've got a pretty defined Shep as well. **** with a heart of gold. Colonist and sole survivor. Has no clue as to how to hit on a guy (good thing she's getting hit on instead). Definitely not a girl who would be woken up at night because of some random kid who died back on Earth.

Part of me regrets filling in my own Shepard's story when it turns out it was never my Shepard to begin with, it was Bioware's all along.

That's not true, you can have peace between them if you did certain things in ME2.

That kid's pissing me off as well. My Shepard, war hero and spacer, has seen so many bad things
in his life, a kid he doesn't really know wouldn't mess up his mind. He's rather worried about his friends and Liara that they may not survive the upcoming battles. Sure, the kid's death makes my Shepard
angry but this would never make him dream of him again and again.

I really wish there's a better ending. A better ending would make me forget about the Reapers' motivation (which I don't like at all), the space magic, and the less dialogue options.
So come on, BioWare, we want at least one better ending!

I think there are others like Asari/Turians and Krogan/Salarian.

You could try finding solice in knowing at least Mass Effect 3 won't be as bad as Dragon Age 3.

I am with you

I want more than one, I want the multitude of endings they originally promised. But atleast one in line with the theme than ran through ME1 and ME2 would be better.

You know, the more I think about it, the angrier and more anxious become.

With my canon Shep, he saw his parents killed by Batarian slavers at 16, only for his little sister to die aboard their vessel before being rescued. But he held his sh*t together when he became the hero of the Skylian Blitz. And then he became a Spectre, lost a friend on Virmire, made a bunch of hard choices, but stayed strong. Fell in love with an Asari scientist, came back from the dead after saving the galaxy, and is personally responsible for the deaths (either in self defense, making command choices or accidentally in Arrival) of, what, say a million lives? And then, THEN he keeps going, having overthrown the Shadow Broker, stopped a crazy VI interface experiment, and all this, and then he WILL save the Earth, but... what? No silver lining? The person he loves, and the people he cares about are stranded Walters-knows-where? Why?

Why is it that this game, which is DESIGNED to be based on OUR CHOICE, my character, who has gone through hell and back, then eff it, WENT BACK AGAIN, can't at least end up with his love? Forced drama?

And look, I know people keep saying "Wait till it's out," but I'll point out this; Everytime there has been an issue like this, it has ALWAYS proven true when Bioware didn't step in to explain. PS3 for ME2. Multiplayer. Was it Feb 1st, last year, for the DA2 inserts? At this point, Bioware has lost my trust, and is damned close to losing my respect. This from a guy who has a Mass Effect 2 wallet, and fist bumps everyone when they buy ME1 or 2. Seriously, I don't need this grimdark crap from my favorite (once favorite?) IP. It is beyond me why they thought THIS was a good idea.

Someone pointed out the Renegade choice upon consoling Anderson about the kid was pretty much "Deal with it, people die."

So either Renegade Shepard shouldn't have a kid haunting his dreams or he lied to Anderson and cries bro tears when no one is around.

Grimdark would work if we were expecting it, but we had no way to expect it. Some people point out its a war, ME2 was a suicide mission emphasis on suicide, yet Bioware made it not just possible but easy to make sure everyone survived it. I chose not to have everyone survive it because it was a suicide mission, but I made that choice.
