So I'm guessing Bioware should have shown a group of fans the endings before the release (...well they kind of did...maybe they leaked them on purpose and ARE planning alternate endings?), and they should do what Hollywood does and test for the most pleasing conclusion(s), so could have known what we wanted.

I'm sorry, I really am, but I can't take this whining anymore. As consumers all we do is demand, demand, demand, demand, and we feel entitled to whatever we believe will please us.

I've always viewed video games as an art form, and as I have always believed art should not be mettled with by people who are not creating it.

I can't stop laughing at gamers demanding for their money back. Go find something better to do with your time.

If you don't like "whining" why come to this thread? That just seems illogical to me.

It's illogical to defend an ending with huge plot holes and loose ends.

Luigitornado,

People have a right to their opinion.  I found the endings vague, inconsistent, and incongruously bleak when compared to the tone of the series as a whole.  I also felt that the endings lacked an appropriate sense of closure.

As far as your comment on art goes, I think art is meant to be reacted and responded to.  Art doesn't happen in a vaccum.  People are going to have feelings and opinions about it.

I personally don't feel "entitled" or "demanding."   I can't force Bioware to change anything.  But people can voice their opinions and I think your comment that people are "whining" is subjective and unfair.

Obviously, the series meant a lot to many people.  Bioware should be commended for creating something that was so rich and vibrant and meaningful to its fan base.  I, and many others, just can't help wishing that the conclusion of the series had been handled differently.

Many people (on both sides) have expressed some very interesting and well-thought out opinions on the matter.

I loved this game (and ME/ME2) right up until the endings. The difficult choices, the sacrifices - it handled the deaths with dignity, made me sweat, laugh and cry. But still gave me hope that we'd somehow get through it, and Shepard would finally get a little well deserved retirement. Rebuilding civilization from the ashes with her favorite sniper.

Then I hit the endings. Oh Boy.

There are plenty of people, plenty of characters you were attached to, that die in this game. They did really, really well with showing that you couldn't save everyone. But the reason I and many of us soldiered on was because there is -hope-, that if you work hard enough, that if you struggle and bleed, there will be a little bit of happiness (finally) for Shepard in the end. I worked my behind off in the original Dragon Age game to get my Warden the happiest ending.

These endings spit on all of that. I'm fine with having dark endings - and if Bioware declared only the dark ending canon down the road, fine! But give me a happy or happy-ish ending for my Shepard that I can sweat and bleed toward.

I felt like Bioware basically took all of my hard work from numerous playthroughs of the first two. The characters from ME2 I'd watched die, the sacrifices and pain I'd put Fem Shepard through - and set if all on fire. While yelling "LOL J/K - None of it meant anything and there's nothing you can do to change it!"

(still would have been a better ending)

Not to mention the random "SURPRISE - ripping off Space Odyssey" star child duex machina that got tacked on for ME3. If I wanted to play Mass Effect: A Space Odyssey I'll just put Space Odyssey. I'm not in it for balance of the universe woo-woo (I have to wonder, did they let Lucas write the endings?). I'm here -for the characters-.

Which means yes, I want to destroy reapers, make sure my people are safe, and get down to rebuilding a war-torn galaxy. With my favorite sniper. We've got enough problems created in all this to give us conflicts for a very, very long time and many games. We don't need balance of the force... I mean universe being tacked on out of nowhere in the last game as our ending. When the previous two games have -never so much as breathed a word- about anything of the sort.

You want to see a sci-fi series handle "balance of the universe" type stuff very, very well? Without killing off half the cast and/or galaxy in the process. Watch Babylon 5 (a most excellent and underrated scifi series) - particularly season 2 through 4. That is how you do it right, and that's with a hostile network breathing down your neck the entire time!

The epilogue just poured salt over it all.

This also doesn't give me hope. http://news.softpedi...ys-255935.shtml

"As such, players won’t see a simple black screen instead of a conclusion for their adventures."

Black Screen: Still would have been a better ending then Mass Effect 3.

Seriously. Final scene is the grand armada, forces, galaxy united gathering up and launching toward Earth. Some voice overs of Shepard giving a speech about the long and hard war ahead toward final victory. Nods at the LI as they step off the troop transport and into battle, for the difficult struggle ahead to retake the galaxy. Fade to black. I'd have been happy right there. Bioware could have written in whatever they wanted to as the "ultimate cannon ending" during the next game

I think the bottom line here is... The endings just didn't fit. They felt out of place, with the series tone and context leading us all down a completely different rabbit hole.

And I personally feel betrayed for ending a series so focused on character development this way.

Get out of the complaining thread, If a barber gave me a haircut I didn't want I would want my money back. Bioware gave us a bad haircut.

@D17 People need to stop telling people to "get out of the complaining thread".  When all this started, whether the thread was for or against the endings, Stanely shut them all down and redirected people here.  I have come to the realization that I don't particularly like the endings myself.  However, I'm not going to stop someone from coming in here and saying they do like the endings.  That doesn't solve anything.

@Luigi Well, that's where you don't know what you're talking about.  Casey Hudson claimed they made Mass Effect 3 with "the fans".  Therefore, the fans technically helped create this game, according to those that created this game.  So people in this thread complaining about the endings aren't "mettling", they are attempting to create a different ending.

As well, we are consumers, and we do demand.  If we demand something, and it doesn't happen, then we change things.  If the consumers turn in their game, don't purchase DLC, or don't play the game, this gives EA and BioWare data that suggests they have done something wrong (since they have the ability to determine progress in the game).  We are entitled, because the company entitles us.  If they want our money, they'll do what we demand.  If they want to make less money, they'll ignore us outright.  Plain and simple logic.

As Marshall Eriksen would say, "lawyer'd".

"Planning" doesn't cut it. Bioware said from the very beginning that Mass Effect would end within the trilogy.

Given all of the horrible, horrible interviews that have already been linked, indicating Bioware's doing nothing but damage control (poorly), "Planning" just comes off as saving your own ass.

In the end Bioware just bent us over a table and told us to take it. I loved the first two games and did everything possible in both. I played through with each class at least once on both games. I empathized with Shepard, both John and Jane. The endings are horrible. I could have accepted, not been happy about, how Bioware ended it if my shepard had survived and got out of the Normandy with the others. I wanted to see my little blue children Liara and Shep talked about in ME2.
I think bioware needs to release some FREE dlc that gives a better ending. I say FREE beacuse if they charge for it that will just show that they don't care about the fans and just want our money.

Someone said that they used fans to help judge the ending while in development. I refuse to believe this, no self respecting fan of the series would have signed off on the buggering they called endings.

It can be okay, if it means, okay guys, let's get trough the Eu release, we have a lot to do, we are constantly on meetings, but we know a lot of you where disapointed by the endings, and we would be disapointed if we lost some potential money we could get, so wait a few days, and all of us can get what they want.
- Actually stating this on the forums would also probably chill the situaton. The oddity of this thread, which get's some people upset is the lack of any official response.

Wow just beat the game. even though i already knew the endings i cant believe that they did this. im not mad about what happened to shepard but more about what happened to the normandy. it doesnt make any sense...how did the crew i brought get on the ship? why is the normandy using a mass relay and fleeing from the battlefield? did they get high when they made these endings?

Maybe its just because it's too soon and I'm still so bitter... but I just powered up ME1 to see if the magic was still there and its definitely gone. I just feel so defeated knowing my shep is gonna ultimately screw everyone over. When Joker started talking about his brittle bone disease I was like "yeah well good luck on your island pal!"

From now on my ME3 playthrough officially ends with shep/anderson are staring out the window. Don't even want to waste my breath on Mr Child-God-Thing and honestly don't want to see my squad marooned and have to worry about whether they're ok or not.

that would be an awesome ending! The dream right before the final mission when you go up in flames with the kid..well that made me go "hmmm ok so I'm gonna die" and I was all prepared for some epic battle scenes. And then when no mans land stretched out in front of me with basically no cover and Harbringer guarding the beam I was like "hell yeah time to go down in a blaze of glory and save everyone!" ...Except...not?

This was my ending reaction in a nutshell:

*sees harbringer guarding the beam* :o
*gets hit by beam and hears that everyones dead* "Ok kind of saw that coming" :?

*gets up, zombie limps into a beam, and crawls to the console for hackett before passing out* "oh man I'm just trying so hard!":crying:

*meets weird God Child Reaper light thing* "little dead boy say whaaaat?"

*credits roll* <_<

If the writers were gonna make me die, they could at least have given me a "tonight we dine in hell!" (channeling 300 here) kind of ending. Instead of ... "Tonight you screw the world!"
