Seriously, if there was a happy ending, I'd be replaying Mass Effect 3 for weeks. Changing all the decisions I made and seeing how they made an impact.

Definitely. I tried a second play through today. I got through the first cinematic and just couldn't finish it. Not knowing that everything I'll do will mean nothing.

BioWare said the ending(s) would make some people upset. The Mass Effect series is a dark sci-fi series, the best you can expect for almost anything in it is bittersweet. I mean...each Mass Effect game had a heroic, yet bittersweet ending. The "happiest" one would be Mass Effect 1, and even then, you knew impending doom was coming.

Bioware saying the endings making people upset is ok.  The fact that a HUGE majority of the player base is reaching for the pitchforks over it is a big indicator that they ****ed up big time.

It's war - I was expecting a completely dark ending in there somewhere - but that' does not mean I want to feel horribly angry, confused and depressed the rest of the day afterwards. There were things wrong with those endings.

I would quite like an ending where the reapers win and everyone dies, atleast it means my stupid choices had an effect

Ironically, Twitter is awfully quiet today. Not much of anything from any of the Dev team. Makes you wonder.

whats worse is Mass Effect 3 had a good ending. They should have finished with Anderson and Shepard being rescued as the weapon fires and then finish off the story with all of ur friends. The crap with the little kid should be deleted and burned

Definitely a push in the right direction.

Indeed. They talk with the kid, anderson calls it's shep choice. In merge he stops shep and he jumps. In control the same. In destroy they both hit the core, while they are picked up by normandy, and then the movie where things go with a bang and Normandy is running(standard ending move) then we see normandy stranded on a planet, but shep with his crew. Puff!!! It would not be hard to make, and it would please the fans. At least me. Then, the game would be officially the best game I ever played. EVER.

This game was fantastic until the end and until I found out you do in fact HAVE to play multiplayer to get the best endings, regardless of what BioWare claimed before.

Sour yellow note..

Man, the ending is SO depressing, I feel like I need therapy.. Losing Shepard and having so many questions come up right at the end, wondering who the hell survived.. Sacrificing ourselves for the good of the people who'll come in the next cycle is a great ideal, but, correct me if I'm wrong, people play games to be entertained and happy, not to cry over the death of a lot of pixelated characters they've been in love with for 5 years, including the one they carefully crafted.. I was expecting a few deaths, of course, but not this! Other Bioware games always had at least a few happy endings, even if they weren't 100% happy.

Heck I spent the last 2 weeks replaying through ME1 & 2 to make sure my Shepard was perfect, just to see her being taken away from me like that.. It feels like such a waste.. After I finished the game, I went Google hunting to check for good endings, and I found out there really are none, so what the hell is the point of replaying through the game if I can't even expect to get anything better than that?!

I found this. It was a better ending.

That's pretty nice. Makes me hopeful for how quickly the mod community can get something out there with the resources already available.

Of course they are quiet. They just ruined the best game series ever. The guilt Mac must feel, has got to be intense.

Im just wondering did anyone in the design or writing team say at some point "hey guys doesnt this ending seem anti climatic?" or perhaps "hey guys these endings are ok but I feel they have been done before in other games and mediums?" Seriously I cant imagine a company that claims to be such good story tellers reduced to using cliched writing that a middle schooler could improve on

That's what surprises me.  Did they NOT expect this level of a backlash from the most anticipated game of 2012?

I love how they said they won't pull a LOST in the ending, and tbh the ending of ME3 was a million times worse and left more unanswered questions, the only one that sticks out from LOST is "What exactly was the source and its history?"

I know. It leaves a bad taste like someone stuffed a lemon and a jalpeno in your mouth at the same time and then made you swallow it.

Honestly, I don't think they did. They have to be concerned. Despite what a somewhat vocal minority say BW does care what we think, they are listening to us. i would be very suprised if there weren't more than a few hastily made phone calls trying to think of responses to this backlash.

Just finished the game last night, and honestly it was one of the best I've ever played...until that ending.

I spent a couple hundred hours playing and replaying the first 2 games to get a paragon and renegade playthrough ready for ME3 and had a blast doing it, but now all of that effort feels like a waste. Which is surprising to me considering how I just said I had a lot of fun along the way.

I never would have thought it possible to make my past experiences with the franchise feel so devalued and soured with such a short scene in a game that I had, up until that point, found to be fantastic.

That plot-hole ridden, hand-wavy nonsense that was so ridiculously out of character for both of Shepards as well as the series as a whole changed my mind.  Kudos on that...

Now don't get me wrong, I hate the endings on a level i reserve for deep seeded personal betrayals but calling it rape feels wrong and quite frankly makes me feel a bit ashamed that someone even tried to equate the two things.

Results of the poll thus far set an interesting picture of how we all feel.  Take a look!
  • Over 5700 vots cast
  • 82% voted that the current endings all suck.
  • ONLY 3% agree with the current format.

If there is anyway to talk to the writing team as a whole in person, I would just have one thing to say.
Just give me an ending worth fighting for and to come back to. That's all.
