Who's the tiny little man? Alternatively who's the giant?

I actually like the idea of the mass relays dying. The Relays and the Citadel are a representation of slavery. Organic life, since it's existence in the milky way, have been enslaved by the Reapers, allowed to live in ignorance, guided through the pasture the way the Reapers' desire, and are slaughtered against their will at the Reapers' choosing. All life has been cultivated in this way to make it an easy job.

The Relays might as well be the metaphors for organics shackles, for the absence of free will by the organics. the destruction of them is the final emancipation. Humanity and all life in the galaxy are free, no longer bound by the guidelines of their masters, the road is hard and difficult now, but it is a road in which they all have a choice to find their own destiny. Life rebuilds, and this time it's by it's own accord.

Thats cool in all but why does shepard get to lose all his crewmen in the process, includng a love interest and the normandy!

What's the point if every relay blows up? It would cause 100s of supernovas, destroying almost every Solar system.

This time they blow up with Reaper magic so everything is okay except for the SR2 being flung across the galaxy and all galactic civilization being utterly destroyed.

Neate, you make me want to laugh and cry and rage at the same time.

If this is indeed true, this feels like getting mugged, kicked, and being thrown into a wall all at the same time, after all the massive delays, the unpleasant surprise of multiplayer, we get hit with this...?

Ratz I don't know how to tell you this but Mac Walters is an idiot and Casey Hudson is a masochist.

Also you have terminal brain cancer and we can't operate or treat it.

LOL.... but they're NOT! They're both intelligent, accomplished individuals at the pinnacle of their careers. Yet they both decided to give a huge middle finger to their entire fanbase, excluding those who really get off on grimdark endings. Why?  Especially after the DA2 debacle, why enrage their customers like this?

Hubris?

Still, I do have to agree that after the DA2 debacle it doesn't make much sense for Bioware to knowingly write endings for one of their largest franchises that might alienate their entire fanbase. Unless, of course, they honestly thought people would be alright with these endings. Stranger things have happened.

The relays brought prosperity to billions, if not trillions of people. They allowed at least a dozen species to colonise other worlds, and allowed the creation of a central galactic government that prioritised peace and stability.

The relays have not inherent ethical bias. All they are is a network of roads that allow and encourage population growth, trade, and freedom of movement. The fact that the people who built those roads are very bad people is irrelevant.

Yes, but it is a symbol of slavery and indoctrination. While it did good, it was a shackle of all races - force evolution, the dismantling of free will. As long as the Relays were operational, philosphically speaking all races were still enslaved.

The Romans built roads, some of which are still in use today. When in colonial possesion of nations such as India the British built rail networks. I would argue against using infrastructure created by others as being a sign of slavery, and more a welcome poetic justice.

It's a woman and child talking about "The Shepard".

The child begs for more tales of space travel (now impossible) and is promised more about "The Shepard" another day.

They don't care, they have a burning seething contempt for Mass Effect and all it's fans. They aren't content to just do Mass Effect poorly, they want to have it utterly destroyed and the franchise so tainted and raped that nobody who ever enjoyed it will ever be able to reflect fondly on it as long as they live.

They call it the George Lucas Effect.

Oh god, not even more Christ figure nonsense. I don't want to be Jesus, I want to be the baddest marine ever. I don't want folks to remember me as some folk hero, I'd rather they say "That man was damn good at killing Reapers."

Man, it's great that people are emotionally invested in their Shepards, and they really love the romances!

Maybe we should KILL Shepard at the end of the series!  No matter what!

But wait, people will complain.  We should have at least one ending where Shepard lives.

I bet if we took the love interests away at the end of this trilogy, even if it makes no sense whatsoever storywise, and let Shepard live, but he/she can never, ever see the love interest again, that would REALLY emotionally engage the consumer!!!

YEAH!

...and scene.

This doesn't really bother me. As much as I have problems with a lot of the other stuff in the game and especially the way EA is handling things, the ending stuff doesn't really bother me. Mass Effect (and most Bioware games) always had a pretty generic plot that followed conventional sci-fi and fantasy tropes. For me, it was the characters (and, in the first Mass Effect, the gameplay) that made the series interesting. I've heard it described as a space opera; I think that's pretty accurate. And while the demo didn't give me much hope for the characters, the leaked dialogue scripts told a different story; it looks like the characters are as well-developed as ever. As for the gameplay, the demo sold me on that; it looks much improved from ME2's (which I thought was flat-out bad).

I think I'll still probably wait until I can the game at a lower price, but not because of this ending stuff.

You know that is in the script right?  I can't tell if your being facetious.

Still can't get over how people want a ending where everything lives and no one dies when organic life is threaten by the most powerful force in the ****ing universe.

Get over it meatbags. It probably make a lot more sense to you when you actually play the game.

Bring it on, it wraps up the series well and really gives it that ending feel unlike Gears 3 where I felt like it was to friendly flower ending for it to be over.

The Romans didn't wipe all life off the face of the planet.

We turned Auschwitz into a museum to remember a tragedy, we didn't reuse it as a prison.

It's not that I want everyone to live. It's just that even in the one ending where Shep isn't killed in the blast, he's either going to starve to death or wrap his lips around the barrel of his own gun.

Okay, this is just beyond ignorant.  If you can't take the minimal effort involved in noticing that she isn't involved in the Mass Effect franchise, you shouldn't even be mentioning her name.

Even if this is how things end, I think it's important to remember that "bad" endings can be pretty damn powerful -- but by merely reading the synopsis, the only thing we get out of it is how terrible the implications are with none of the actual emotional execution.

Some of the best stories out there have utterly depressing endings, but they'd just sound pathetic if you were to just "read the synopsis" about what happens as opposed to actually experience their execution.

So all we are in the future is a children's book.
