So we can't get the ending we want after all?

I used to be a huge Bioware fan, but this is the end of the road for me. It seems they are moving away from writing taut, compelling stories and toward a genre where style matters more than substance. I can't follow. I have no desire to.
And that makes me sad. I feel as though I've come to the end of an era. I must bid adieu to the talented company that made all the games I love. Because endings matter. The rest of the game was fantastic; I am surprised it's possible, but they managed to ruin an entire franchise for me in fifteen minutes. I won't play any of the games again, knowing it doesn't matter what you do.

But those last ten minutes atop the citadel... sigh......

My future relationship with the company depends on their reaction.
They release a free good ending DLC, and I'll be willing to put this entire unpleasaness behind us.
The release it as a paid DLC, and I'll be willing to do buisness, but no more pre-ordering, no more Collectors Editions and I wait until I hear if it's good or not before I buy anything.
They don't release anything that fixes the ending, and they are no longer welcome in my wallet.

Oh, yeah. I've never gotten choked up over a video game so badly before that I actually had to hit the dashboard button and go have a cigarette to compose myself before I could keep playing. Everything up to that stupid kid-AI was as close to gaming perfection as I've ever experienced, and I've been video gaming since the Atari 2600 days when I was barely big enough to hold a controller. And then there was a massive gooey turd in the punchbowl.Lexagg wrote...

I don't smoke but I certainly was experiencing something similiar. Only got like four hours of sleep in the two days I was playing it. I felt so certain that I was being trolled about the ending. I mean, how can something this frakkin' good be messed up by an ending? Ahhhh, I had to find out the hard way.

agreed even by like the end of the mission on palovan(?) moon I was already planning my second playthrough. Now however I just can't bring myself to continue, which is a shame seeing as how I really had an immense amount of fun right up until the catalyst and the crappy no proper conclusion ruined one of the best games.KoRnAh wrote...

Destroying the reapers with the relays destroyed. So every races fleet is stuck in Sol with FTL drives. So unless earth has a lot of room and food that won't kill Turians and Quarians, then they will die from starvation. The other races are stuck in sol, and that many aliens could strain earth's resources, and they wont see home again. That's stupid!
Finally you control the reapers....the husks that claim lives and how Shepard was going to stop it decides to become a reaper. What???
Did Mac Waters or anybody there thought this out? If they make a new mass effect game as they alluded, where can they go? They might as well called mass effect 4: stuck on earth. The game revolves around telling stories with your grand kids.
Also the fact Joker left battle and was stuck in the relay is a mystery. Nothing was mention on why he left. At least the music during the ending was amazing, and at least the green ending shows joker and Ed-e happy together.

Then the ending came. UGH.
I'll still play the game over and over, but I REALLY need them to release a "New endings" DLC that includes a happy ending for all if I'm going to say good things about ME3.
I've so far told three people(two stepbrothers and a friend) about the endings and all think they're completely ridiculous and stupid.

Your avatar is very similar to how my face actually was when I was fighting the banshee and brute horde on the missle stage. And then again at THAT part.

I feel you. I had trouble going to sleep after beating it. I have never felt this betrayed. BioWare craddled us, they gave us happiness then just stabbed us in the back.Almostfaceman wrote...

My sister (who doesn't play Mass Effect) and her boyfriend (who did play ME2 and was considering borrowing ME3 from me) watched with me as I reached the end of the game (chose destroy), then reload and try another path (control), only to get basically the same thing. And they both agree that it was both stupid and pointless, with no real closure whatsoever.

In any case, I call shenanigans. The only thing that keeps me sane is the hope that they did this because the story was leaked, and once it's been in Europe for a few days they will released the actually ending, for free. Big dreams, but it helps me sleep at night.

This is really what hurts the most. The rest of the game is really, really good. So much so that the endings drag it down, which is a situation you should never want to be in.
I'm not even looking for a Disney ending that some people are (Though it certainly could have, and probably should have, been one of a variety of options), all I want is an actual ending. Clarification on the fate of Shepard and the crew. The story isn't all about the Reapers, it's a character story as well. Bioware failed to deliver on that end.
I can accept being railroaded into the ending. It's not what I want, but at the end of the day I'll accept it. What I cannot except is a lack of variety and a lack of clarity.

I personally spread the word around my local Game Shop (They sell table top games not Video games) about the endings and everyone I told called me a liar. "BioWare wouldn't do that. Quit trying to troll us", I wish I was.
Now you know what Shepard felt like.

I want to do this now - well, go to EBgames, I mean. I actually told one of the salespeople that I was jealous he'd gotten to play the demo when it was first available. I wonder what the people who work in this store think of the game, or will think of it if they haven't finished it yet.

The true plan all along. To make the player feel like a real life Shepard

I blogged about the endings, and the people who follow me on Twitter thought I was exaggerating -- that it couldn't possibly be that bad. And then there was the usual scorn from people who loathe Disney endings. But look, an ending doesn't have to be Disney to be logical, compelling, and most of all, make sense with existing canon. What they did was a 180 from the ongoing storyline -- and the lack of cogent design in the finale was absolutely astounding.
