I just finished the game myself and, like most of you, am very disappointed in the ending scenarios. When I reached the point where I had to make one of three decisions, I had to get up and walk away to give myself time to think how I can get the ending I want. Sadly, I played all three endings hoping that one would give me the closure to the series I was hoping for. Alas, that did not happen.
It is frustrating, disappointing, and most of all, sad that no matter what you do, no matter the choices you've made over the course of 3 games and over 100 hours of gameplay, you are reduced to essentially 1 ending that clearly no one is satisfied with. Ultimately, I feel empty and empathize with every fan who feels their choices meant nothing in the hour in which they should have meant the most.
I am fine with having an ending in which Shepard dies. In fact, I suspected that it would be one do the options. That's ok, but it shouldn't be the only option. Why not show an ending where Shepard and his LI are happily ever after? Why not show an ending where Shepard fails and the cycle continues? Why not show Shepard sacrificing himself to save all life, but not destroy the Mass Relays? Why can't there be a final showdown with Harbinger? My point is, there are numerous options that could have been used. Why just one? It was our choices that led us to the end. It should have been our choice on how it ends.
The "stock" endings don't make sense anyway. Why was Joker piloting the Normandy away from Earth anyway? How did the crew end up on the ship when they were charging the citadel teleporter with me? If the Mass Relays are destroyed, then how is that better than the Reapers destroying organic life? It just doesn't make sense.
Would DLC fix the ending? Probably, but we shouldn't need DLC to make our choices mean something, to give us the closure and ending we want. Will it be perfect for all? No, but it will be better than a meaningless, confusing, and empty ending we've all been forced into. No fan of the series should ever have to pay to feel their choices meant something and to have a satisfying ending. However, EA knows we will all pay for it because this is as much our story as it is theirs. And we, the fans of this incredible universe, characters, and story, we will make one more choice, the most important choice of the series. We choose to reject this one "stock" ending. We deserve better for Shepard, his friends, and ourselves.
seconded.
