Damn, that pole has more votes then Biowares official polls.

No way they can ignore such overwhelming numbers.

I know, right? In LotSB I told Liara she would never have to lose me again. That's the only reason she continued her romance with me. All that is thrown out of the window. Now I'm not just dead, I'm a dead lying ****.

I know. On top of that, in ME3 Shepard all but proposes to Liara and she says she feels the same way. The two of them express that they want to grow old (though she still wouldn't really be old even if he lived to be 100) together and have little blue babies. That scene where they look up through the window from his bed and she briefly muses about the possibility of flying off to somewhere remote to spend what time they had left together until the war catches up with them really got to me. If I actually had to choose between that and the available endings, I would have been seriously tempted to let the galaxy find someone else to fight their battles for a change. He already died for them once. He deserves a rest.

The only thing I would change is how Shepard dies, I would have liked for Shepard to have made the decision with the whole crew present, then while Shepards dying or whatever they can say their last goodbyes.

Wait.. You want them to watch as Shepard.. disintegrates? :?

One thing that struck me as particularly cruel is that, while Anderson dies with a friend at his side, Shepard dies alone. What kind of end is that for the person who saved the galaxy many times?

Bioware did apologize for Mass Effect: Deception and said they would make it right. Gives me some tiny hope they'll fix this too.

Haha, that sounds more like a challenge. Just watch them :(

I wouldn't doubt that they will say "deal with it" but resitance--no matter how futile--feels good.

Exactly. For them to change the ending, they'd need to admit that it was bad and that they were wrong.

This isn't going to happen.

Bioware R.I.P.

inb4 people who say Shepard deserves it because a hero should always die a tragic death

That depresses me so much that people think tragedy should be the norm. I'm inspired by the people who, in this day and age, want to see happiness in their escapism. It's good to see people still believe happy endings are worth it.

Honestly, do it. The game itself is great. It is a terrific game right up until the end.

Just right before you beat it, turn off your PC/console.
Problem solved.

The problem is that the ending doesn't actually provide a strong emotional reaction.  Quite the opposite, in fact.  The ending itself produces very little in the way of an emotional reaction.

It's the realization that the ending produces so little emotion that is causing the anger on the part of the playerbase.  The distinction is a subtle one, but it's important.

Well put, Sir.

Mass Effect 3 was a great game. I got to see my decisions from the previous games have an impact. The game play was fun and enjoyable. The game had poignant, tear-jerking moments. It had emotional ups and downs that drew me along with the story. I, playing as Commander Shepard, united the galaxy in the face of an overwhelming enemy and impossible odds. The game even had a fun multiplayer component that felt like part of the story. Yes the game was perfect right up till almost the end. Almost to the end, but in those last few moments of the game it all comes to nothing.

It is not that the endings were sad; it’s that the endings don’t make sense. A sad ending I could have lived with. The deaths of Mordin, Thane, and Legion were all sad, but they fit in the story and had meaning. I could have accepted Shepard’s death or even the destruction of most of the earth, but to have everything I as a player had become so emotionally invested in completely destroyed was a huge let down.

At the end of Mass Effect I dove straight into a NG+ play through. At the end of Mass Effect 2 I loaded up one of my alternate play throughts from ME. I bought all the DLC for both games. I really wanted to have the same response to Mass Effect 3. As it stands now though there wouldn’t be any point. I don’t understand why a developer would want to so completely salt the earth of their own IP in this way. The ending dissuades me from wanting to play the game again. In fact it makes me want to tell people who haven’t played it yet to stay away. It even manages to reduce the amount of enjoyment I get from the multiplayer component of the game.

This makes two disappointing games in row for me from Bioware, the other being DA 2. It is sad that the number of big name developers I can trust to deliver a satisfying experience is becoming so small.

The ratio for people who dislike the ending to liked the ending is 26 to 1. Rounded down. For every 100 people who like the ending, 2,600 hated it and want a better one.

How dumb would they have to be to ignore numbers like that?

That's the thing. If they had given options, and had different (ACTUALLY different) endings, some people would have gone with the tragic end, others with the Disney ending. Some days, we need uplifting stories, other days we need tragedy, having more options would satisfy a lot of different people as well as satisfy the same people on different days.

I just posted this in another thread but I'll say it again. Play the game. Experience the whole thing and then judge the merit of the endings on your own. You might love the endings, you might hate them, but at least you'll know it's not a hate or a love based on hearsay. The game is so very wonderful, so heartbreaking in points, so uplifting in others, and it deserves to be played. Don't deny yourself the wonder of 99% of the game because of a fear about the final 1%.

Also, with the red destroy all Reapers ending? Shep does this... by shooting a power conduit with a pistol. *boggle* I feel this pistol should be nerfed immediately. Failing that, I want a DLC where Harbinger is slain with a slingshot.

I wonder how BioWare can fix this ending situation... Judging by what i read here, just adding more options may not be enought - entire last mission must be reworked...

I wonder if such a missive fix has ever been released for any game?

It could work if it was a slingshot of mass destruction +2.

Not the entire last mission. Everything from before the conduit V.2 is fine. Things only get iffy after you arive on the Citadel.

The rest of the game elicited emotions from me that ranged from exteme laughter and hapiness to tear-jerking sadness.  Your correct in that the ending did not fit in that.  In fact, they simply do not fit at all.  I think it is due to the fact that after so much emotional investment, we got no return.
