Everything the same until you're talking to TIM on the citadel. Then, if you have enough paragon/renegade, you convince him that he should be defending humanity instead of ruining it / the reapers own him, and he needs to strike back at them in the limited time he's lucid. TIM agrees, and sacrifices himself to activate the crucible---a device similar to an EMP, that knocks out the special barriers that protect the reaper hardware (since we saw that even the relatively small armaments of a frigate could and did pierce Sovereign when his shields were down.). Once the shields are down, the battle becomes one-sided in the other direction, with all of the factions you recruited emboldened by the new vulnerability of their foe. Harbinger takes a few of his contemporaries back into dark space, telling Shep that if organics are capable of this, maybe they (the reapers) will take another look at organic life and give it respect as a true life-form. Then, and only then, does the focus shift to an epilogue (video or otherwise, I don't mind reading)...all of the companions from all three games, those who survived getting home, and honouring the fallen. THAT is the ending I would write, if I had the power to do so.
And if not enough paragon/renegade, then Shep sacrifices himself for the same reason: He was a hero. That's why they followed him, and why we followed him (all of the femshep fans please don't get mad, but my Shep was male, and that's just who I see when I think of the Commander).

Anyway, if this is it for ME3's endings, and after DA2, I won't be buying another Bioware title. I've been with them since the first Baldur's Gate and I own every game they've made since then. I want to have faith that there's more than this. Please, don't let me down.

We do not want to bash Bioware or the writers. The track record for detailed story is amazing. I can only speak for myself but as a fan of most Bioware games I do not want Mass Effect 3 to be the game where story jumps the shark.
We KNOW you can do so much better and thats what bugs us.
Thank you.

My problem with the ending, as it is the problem for others, is that the synthetics rebelling against organics plot has only ever been a sideplot in the Mass Effect franchise and now all of a sudden this fact is the sole motivation of the Reapers and that damn meddling kid.
In all the games and even at the end of the game the reapers/skykid tell us that the reapers are the solution to chaos. What bothers me is that BioWare chose the synthetics vs. organics as a synonym for this chaos. Why not show us the many examples in the series. In a way we can see the Salarians as creators of the Krogans. Show us David and the rogue AI from Overlord.
Wouldn't it be much better if the Artifact explained to us that organic evolution will in some way or another always lead to the extinction of the galaxy's races and recourses and that he has seen this countless times in different scenarios in other galaxys? Wouldn't it be better that the Artifact explained to us that organics simply cannot live, coexist and above all cannot evolve in a profitable way for an infinite amount of time and that the Artifact chose to find a (be it bitter) solution for our own galaxy?
Shepard could then give a counterargument and show us that he united all the races and got them to live in peace with eachother.
The Artifact in turn would show us the ironic fact in that event. That it can only take a force that removes them from the galaxy to bring the galaxy together in peace.
After that we could have the option to persuede the Artifact (we are the first organic to stand there after all and he tells us his solution doesn't work anymore) to either;
- let us be and give us a chance to show it that we can live in peace and coexist with eachother eternally, but with the chance that in the long run it will indeed create a messed up galaxy. (a true bittersweet ending imo, a happy end, but the existing chance of a dark future)
and of course have the other options without persuasion:
- let the reapers continue and let shepard and the rest of the advanced species die
- destroy the reapers and all their technology
After that I would still like some closure of course, instead of the lame normandy on remote world cinematic.
Where can i vote for this? ^^

Statistically speaking, that is actually a very good poll result and is an accurate representation of all of the owners of ME3. Even if Bioware doesn't notice (which they really are: Gamble's tweet which I find very respectful, and Jessica Merizan has been engaging many fans at least in conversation), EA would have to, considering a very large majority of customers are very displeased with only one aspect of an otherwise flawless product. Furthermore, EA has to notice the potential drop in sales and loss of customers. I can fully understand Bioware's reluctance and light-treading right now. I'd say people like Michael Gamble are potentially fearful for their jobs (which I'm not saying is right or what I want, but a reality of the smart business in a capitalistic world).

A good way of not making them listen is to continue the bullying style of complaining, which has become the norm on BSN. I really think that we need to keep things civil and constructive, Taking a dump on the entire game because of the last minutes is not really being constructive. But i guess thats a naive hope, considering that this is the internet
Giving the typical responses of gaming communities, I actually think the thoughts expressed in this thread are REMARKABLY civil over all. We could easily have had tons of these "LOL BIOWARE U SUCK I h8 U NEVR BUYING ANOTHER BIOWARE GAEM" comments, but I haven't seen any yet. People are expressing frustration and sometimes anger, but they have the right to. I think everyone here agrees that the reason they're so ticked is BECAUSE they love the game so damn much.

I think it's important for us to consider that, at some point, a community manager is going to have to explain our thoughts to any number of developers, and accordingly it's important that a succinct list of our concerns with the ending is available. Those concerns are numerous, and here are the ones I'm familiar with so far:
(snipped)
This is an absolutely excellent list and you should feel good. In fact, I'm surprised at how good it is. This not only accurately and succinctly describes my major complaints, but the ones I've been hearing from other people and didn't think to compare to my own - which is terrific. The more cohesive our complaints, the better our argument.
It's like watching someone scientifically identifying quantifiable, objective suckyness.

Their reputation is shot if they don't fix this though. Over the last year they have gone far to destroy a lot of the good will they built up for years.
