Age shouldn't matter. If something moves you, then it moves you.

Was a super happy ending really going to happen? Probably not, but I think many of us were ready for that.

What happened is that we, as the players, as the people who WERE Shepard, recieved NO closure at all. That was not an ending.

I agree, 3 days since I finished and I think I may actually be more worked up about it now then I was when I finished the game.

If I said I was disappointed, it would be a tremendous understatement.

Seriously. All our loyalty(Ive been a fan of BW since KOTOR), all our work over the past three games, going around the galaxy and finishing all those little sidequests, getting everyone to work together, and all we get is some craptastic choices from an AI Kid?

You really dropped the ball, BioWare. The journey does matter, but if the destination basically discounts everything you've done on the journey to get to the destination, then what was the point of the journey to begin with?

That being said, 1st Floridian Fighter Squadron standing by!

In all seriousness, does anyone else feel like it would be more satisfying if the Reapers just won?
Sure, every 50,000 years we deal with this horrendous galactic genocide, but at least between that time we get to picture more civilizations develop and spread throughout the galaxy. As far as "hope" goes, we would still be left to ponder whether the next cycle would be able to achieve victory. The pseudo-victory we're left with really makes it seem terribly unlikely that an intergalactic government would ever re-emerge. I think that's one of the most powerful messages that gets people riled up; the idea that the galaxy just became a dreary, dark, and lonely place.

Kinda a sad message.

Shepard did the impossible. He was the greatest man who ever lived anywhere... and in the end, even HIS choices were meaningless. :?

Sleep well, kids!

Sad as it is, I know what you feel. I finished ME3 Thursday evening. Since that moment, I've done virtually nothing but read these forums. It's all I can do right now. I can't go back to play ME3, or even ME1 or ME2 for that matter. I put in such an emotional investment and never got an outlet for it in the game, so I really can't enjoy any other video game at the moment. Really, I never thought of myself doing something so.. "nerdy". I never thought I would admit to people that I felt physically worse after finishing a video game, I never thought any game could affect me like this.
And here I am. Finding what solace I can in sharing my experience with so many other people, hoping with all my might that Bioware will come through.

It all may be just bits of data on a hard drive, but if you spend enough time with it you get attached just like anything else in the world. I know the feeling bout the forum thing. I usually never stroll into forums. After beating it Wedneday i was so pissed i had to find some kind of outlet. Ive got 5 other shepards waiting for a decent ending so they can play through. Time will tell if something good comes out of it.

It's nice to think that after Javik finally comes to peace with his situation, and decides that he's going to honor his fellow Protheans after the final battle and then join them, he's really just going to end up with this rag-tag group of aliens on this jungle planet not knowing what in the hell just happened.

Just finished the game last night, and I was sure I had received the "bad" ending. Feeling really depressed, out of curiosity, and perhaps against my better judgment, I looked into how to get the good ending and what it might be.

Only to find out that I already got it, if it can even be called that. Wow. This one seriously hurts. Hurts bad. Mass Effect was a series, was a universe, was a band of characters that deserved so much more, and I, the player who has followed everything ME for, what, over five years now, am unable to provide the conclusion that, not only I want, but that the universe and characters deserved. Instead I'm left confused by the writing (in the worst way) and deeply, deeply hurt.

I really don't know what to say. Mass Effect a few days ago for me was a universe with limitless possibility, with a rich lore and culture all its own. Equally important, it had characters that I loved, and stories I loved revisiting. The question "Mass Effect or Star Wars" used to give me pause. And then this. Why would you build a series, a multi-year saga and epic, around an emotional investment in comrades, love interests, and in the galactic community at large, only to have no possible ending in which any one of those three, let alone all of them, as I'd have preferred, are saved?

I can understand making sacrifices to beat the Reapers. I had done that with Mordin, Thane, Ashley... each hurt. I was prepared to make another decision like that again, or watch an event unfold like that again. But this wasn't sacrifice. This was defeat. "You sacrificed too much."

I would gladly pay just to get a proper ending to the series. It deserves nothing less. Some people might be miserly and staunchly declare they wouldn't buy it, or it's bad business, or what have you. I don't care. This isn't just some random title, this is the culmination of so much investment, in time, in emotion, in debate and in enjoyment, for so many of us fans. How could I ever play this game again, or the first two games again? How could I ever build a relationship that felt even the slightest bit lasting with any companion knowing how everything is going to go? The whole strength of the series is undermined. All those hollow promises about life after the Reapers to everybody, throughout the series... the thought of emptily going through those motions is enough to make me cringe.

Mass Effect meant... means a lot to us, the fans. I only wish there was some evidence it had meant a lot to the writers as well.

I know how you're feeling. I too was going away from Star Wars. Today I watched the end of RotJ 6 times in a row. Sure the Ewoks are somewhat stupid, but at least here I have an ending.
I was also an avid Player of the Star Wars Pen and Paper RPG, but I left it for a Mass Effect Conversion I wrote myself...

I am sorry Star Wars, that I betrayed you.

You have to give Georgie at least that: His endings were never lacking closure...

When Mike Gamble said on this twitter "By the way... I am reading all of your thoughts. Just not ready to comment yet." A big part of me is afraid that he is only going to comment on the positive comments. I know there is more negative (by far) than positive coming his way. I'm just so afraid they are going to ignore us about this.

becasue you  find yourself trying to make these endings good and looking at them from all angles just make sure your not over reacting... and you come back to the same conclusion and it pisses you off even more.   It just comes to the endings being some "True Art is Angst" nonsense

It's been 24 hours for me now, normally it would all be at least a little bit better at this point, but it is exponentially worse. I' hollow from this ending. I think about the ending, it only feels worse. I even tried starting a new campaign to use my female Shepard. I just could not bring myself to do it, had to turn off my xbox.

The game should have ended at the point where Shepard and Anderson were sitting in the Citadel bleeding badly wounded after the conversation they had after defeating the illusive man.

Paragon ending goes: the Crucible then fires some sort of pulse that disables/destroys the reapers while Shep watches as earth is saved and slowly slumps over. Next you would see your love interest crying etc and then credits. Perfect ending to this would have cutscenes of the normandy racing to save Shep, then looking through his eyes as he passes in and out consciousness heading to the med bay and then his eyes close and credits come, leaving the rest open to interpretation if he survives or not, also giving the option to keep the Shep story going if the writers want to.

Renegade option ending goes: Shep and Anderson sitting in the Citadel badly wounded as before except Anderson says somethng different to Shep then dies. As Shep is about to pass out from his wounds he see a light blinking on the control panel, struggling to stand he staggers to it and presses it. Next you see a flash of light/beam etc eminate from the Citadel and suddenly all the reapers stop and stand still for some time, then one by one they light off from the earth and leave the galaxy taking the Citadel with them. Again leaving it open to interpretation but also giving some better closure and giving the option of a future.

At least thats what i think should have happened other than some wishy washy ending like there is in game!

Anyone notice that the post-release press was incredibly minimal, as if the people running gaming sites just got the reviews out the door and tried to forget about it?

On Joystiq, Mass Effect didn't even hold the first position in the rolling strip at the top after release, or even before. After Skyrim was released, it was in the first position for about a month, and slowly moved down.

honestly i dont even know what to think of the ending, im just dissapointed at it, and dissapointed at bioware for either not having the spine to stand up to EA (its like standing up to the mafia or something), and that they actually thought this was a good enough ending to put it in a game, it ruined mass effect as a whole for me, i dont even care about all the little fan made stuff, i cant even listen to the commander shepard song anymore :(
